so on that ethos marquez, de la hoya, gatti, judah, baldomir etc were all finished fighters the night they got beat by floyd??
You misunderstand me. I'm not saying he was finished pre-fight, but I think he took some major punches & the psychological effect of losing for the first time may have been worst the physical effect. I'm also not saying that it's to do with Mayweather, I personally think that Hatton actually fought about as smart & effective a fight as he could, he simply came up against a far more talented foe. I think a better way of saying what I meant was that he left something in the ring that night & to me in his subsequent fights he hasn't looked the same fighter.
In contrast, against Pacquiao I felt he fought a truly stupid fight, however even if he fights to his best, Pacquiao probably wins. The point I'm making is he can still be competitive, but people shouldn't expect the Hatton circa 2007, he's not the same level of fighter any more.
agreed on both counts as pertains to both performances, a 9 against floyd, you`d be generous to give him a 2 against pacquiao.
He did everything wrong, nothing right. I dont think the head movement is what it used to be and the footwork is someway behind from early hatton. But he`s easily still capable of not just performing but winning titles at world level just not at elite level.
Id love to see ricky bow out in manchester with a hard fought win over a great fighter and tell us all there and then thats it, thats the dream for me

Also, Rick was quoted yesterday in an interview in Tenerife saying that he has fallen out of love with boxing. It should hit the press tomorrow. I doubt he'll ever fight again. And I'm glad of that.
that really is great news mate cheers for sharing ;)
for me he aint got it anymore and to take an easy finish fight and possibly struggling or losing to a sub standard fighter wouldn't do him or his loyal fans much good.
no shame in losing to the 2 p4p best fighters of this era and he is a very rich guy now so why risk his health by continuing.
GOOD CALL RICKY 8)
How on earth is that great news
A great fighter deciding at 31 to end his career, and please dont give me that he`s a shot fighter crap, the second best performance of his career was not 6months before the pacquiao fight and only now are we actually learning how good a boxer malignaggi actually is.
Had hatton of been outboxed and demolished for 12rounds then fair play he is a shot fighter, instead he got caught out in the moment hit hard very early on and never recovered. That doesnt indicate that a fighter is past his prime!!
For me i think its great because he's gotten out of the game rich and without a loss to a substandard opponent or getting badly hurt.
no matter how good you think Ricky still is... i'm sure he knows better and this decision was based on what he feels he has left in the tank himself.
Some boxers go on far too long looking for past glory... for me its a breath of fresh air to see one who knows when hes done. ;)
as for Malignaggi lets be honest here... he isn't the strongest puncher out there if he was Khan wouldn't be facing him thats for sure and i think punch resistance played a part in Rickys decision to call it a day.
added to that he didn't do a Naz and tell his loyal fans he was coming back over and over again and leave them hanging... that guy still aint announced his retirement

most of them where shot before the fight which leads me to belive thats why the fights where made.... don;t get me wrong floyd is a great fighter but sometimes he uses smoke and mirrors... this Mosly fight is well overdue.
