Should be a good addition to the boards, nice to have people to disagree with.
Well I don't take it too personally beacuse I know that most casual boxing fans have given up on Roy Jones. So anyone giving credit to Roy Jones will probably be accused of being on crack. But, even on this very forum and other forums like eastside boxing, there were more than a few that thought Jones still got the best of Hopkins.
Regardless of what you think about who won, I think you gotta give credit to Roy Jones for fighting a cleaner fight and landing some great punches in the middle and late rounds. The fight itself wasn't a classic or an all time great, but I did think you could take a lot away from that fight from what actually happened. (you know by watching it round by round, with the commentary off)
I have no problem if people disagree with my view, but it would serve them well to explain why rather than just dismissing the argument altogether.
In the RJJ - BHop fight, the proof is really in the pudding. Hopkins threw more punches, Hopkins fouled more, Hopkins tied Jones up more. But at the end of the day, Jones was the one who landed the more flashy punches and did the more creative work in there. And as a boxing fan watching a fight between two legends, I think you gotta appreciate that. It wasn't just a trash fight. It was a pretty incredible match considering the age of the fighters. It was much more entertaining and competitive than Pacquiao - Clottey, which was a snooze fest at best. I would go as far to say that Jones - Hopkins was more exciting than Pacquiao - Clottey, Pavlik - Martinez, and Bute - Miranda. And most people just want to dismiss it as insignificant and uncompetitive, when in reality it was much more than that.
if anything it showed that Hopkins is finally on the slide, not that Jones is still world class

You're kidding right?? You do know Green comes from the same country as Anthony, i'm the baddest man on the planet, Mundine??
At least Green has got a decent fight on his resume without getting himself KO'd in the process...
Unfortunately he won't get a really big fight, and would probably lose if he did... But I don't think he's full of himself or deserves a beating..
As for the hand wraps, I have no idea, but Jones is a fragile man these days, physical wise, so that KO isn't evidence enough for illegal taping,,,, neither is leaving the gloves on for a while after the fight... Of course, their are due checks in place before a fight to catch out fighters cheating... If those checks fail, it's as much the fault of boxing/referee's as it is the fighter for sticking hard shit into his wraps..
Benefit of the doubt I say..

Would love to see Briggs and Green if Briggs hasnt lost anything from being in retirement. But seriously fighting Siaca was more about fighting a guy that beat Mundine yrs ago then it was about being a real challenge yet Green talked it up like Siaca was a great fighter. Some guys were telling me at the pub that Green is unbeatable coz he knocked out a prime RJ (dont think they know what prime means) and Siaca (in there words, another great fighter). Fuck i hate casual boxing fans, they tell you everything and say your wrong but cant name a single boxer in the weight division unless its an aussie and sometimes they cant even name an aussie and then claim to know it all.
On a similar note the Australian commentators were pretty embarrasing on the Jones - Green fight. They said something like 'if you beat a legend you become a legend! and were talking as if Jones was still p4p number 1. No wonder the guys down the pub have such a messed up view.

Yeah the aussie commentators were disgraceful for that fight. I was at that fight live and then watched the replay on the news in the morning and couldnt believe they said you beat a legend you become one, nothin but hype talk. At the moment there is only two aussies I will pay to watch and they are vic darchinyan and Michael Katsidis coz they fight the best and the rest of them fight nobodies and I wont pay for that shit.
