Re: Mayweather Mosely NOT a World Title Bout
It's a shame it's not for a belt. Will it be for the Ring title though? I think if it's 2 of the top 3 in their rankings fighting each other then they will award the winner the title providing it is vacant which it is at the moment.
The Ring belt means waaaayyy more than any of the alphabet straps now anyway.

It is not for The Ring belt. The Ring Belt is only when #1 fights #2, and in rare circumstances where #1 fights #3. However in this case Manny Pacquiao is ranked #1, so there is no way to crown a welterweight champion without his involvement.
It should be noted that when Margarito and Mosely fought each other (Marg then #1 and Mosely then #3), many people felt it should have been for the welterweight tile and criticized The Ring for not recognizing it. Those people continue to consider Mosely at THE welterweight champion, and I sort of agree.
Re: Mayweather Mosely NOT a World Title Bout
How is this anything but good? If the bastards wanted him to pay $50 I'd be just as glad he told them to fuck off. Mosley has paid the fees so he will still hold on to the belt.
If any other fighter had done this we'd be applauding them for standing up to the sanctioning bodies... well maybe not Amir Khan :p
The WBA are the worst of a bad bunch, they don't deserve to be associated with this fight, which should be for the Ring title, but as usual they've fucked up their rankings, dropping Shane to 2nd :-\

I like belts to a certain point, belts IMO identify who's at the top of their division and legitimizes certain fights. But once you've fought in multiple weight classes and you're a known star, belts should just be thrown away unless you're trying to win your first belt in that division. Floyd's already won the WBC Welterweight title and Shane has won a belt multiple titles at 147, it's pointless for a belt to be on the line. Same goes for any of the big stars.
mayweather dont want that belt because he would have to fight number one contenders. Bhop defended his title 20 times. this dude is filthy rich how can it be a problem to pay for it seriously? A title is a crown and the real warrior go crazy to get it and keep it.

Ok, assuming that Mayweather wins the title let's see who his 'number one contenders' are.
1. Souleymane Mbaye - The same Mbaye who's never beaten a decent opponent at 147
2. Antonin Decarie - Undefeated Canadian whose best win came over ol' Terrance Cauthen
3. Hector Saldivia - Basic Argentine slugger, a poor man's Carlos Baldomir
4. Said Ouali - a fighter under Mayweather promotions, basically given a contract so he could be a sparring partner for the Baldomir & Hatton fights.
5. Mike Jones - exciting young fighter, whose best win is a decision over an old Henry Bruseles, the same fighter Mayweather battered five years ago. Could be good one day, but that day is about 2 years away.
I think we clearly see the worth of the WBA's 'challengers'

HE's number two? I didn't even realize that. the guy's a good little boxer, I've seen him a couple of times fighting, he has interesting technique and speed but it is definitely not a real top 10, a top 25 maybe at best. I do not see how him or any of the others might be the slightest scare for PBF personally and it shows what really worths the WBA by these days.

The only one of those guys who MIGHT be considered in the top 20 welterweights in the world is Mike Jones & even then it's debatable. I'd be disgusted if Mayweather paid for the belt & actually fought one of those guys, he should be getting credit for fighting Mosley without some piece of shit dime-a-dozen belt around. It would be great if all the top fighters followed his lead & refused to pay sanctioning fees to the likes of the WBA
