Seems like everyone's watched "The Wire" except me. To be honest American TV shows don't normally interest me. Except for the Sopranos because im a big fan of the gangster genre.
The Wire has to be my favorite show of all time. I've watched every season at least twice. The only part I didn't really like was season two the whole docks thing, and Stringer Bell being killed. The man was trying to get out.
Season 2 seems to be everyone's least favourite season but I really enjoyed it. Ziggy was a great character - played pretty much the same character in Generation Kill as well. Oh, and I actually felt sorry for Sobotka when he got killed by the Russian/Greeks. :(
Sobotka was basically a decent guy who was trying to plug all the holes while the Dam was falling all around him. Everything was just a means to an end for him and keeping peoples jobs and shit was his main priority.
Clay Davis was a great character and could talk his way out of a tigers stomach
I wonder if Clay ever thought about how close he came to being murdered. If Omar and Brother Mouzone hadn't gotten to Stringer first...
Interesting. I never thought of that although I did find it strange that he was, basically, nicking Stringer's money and nothing being done about it. Then again, didn't he tell Avon he wanted Clay Davis killed but Avon told him to forget about it as it would bring too much heat? Clay didn't even know how close he was to being 'got'. Sheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeit! :o
Anyone recognise this?

Never thought that I'd like a Greek song but, thanks to David Simon, I love this. ;D
Great thread. Epic series.
Soooo many good characters not yet mentioned; Bunk, Rawls, Prop Joe, Kima...even Carver and Herk (sp?) who become much better, more rounded characters than you think they might in Season one.
I've got to say though, I really hated them for making the final season so unbelievable...oh that and no one 'upstairs' knowing about Hamsterdam for ages.
The Shield is as good for different reasons - mainly it's ability to keep you hooked with 'how the eff are they gonna get out of this' type scenarios. Oh, and I tihnk the guy who plays Shane acts his socks off in the final season. Bloody brilliant.
I'd recommend Dexter as well. Again, a totally different animal but brilliant all the same
