Re: Like I said all along Maidana is shite, Khan will demolish him!
I've only seen bits of the Corley fight on You Tube, but by all accounts Maidana got his win and looked pretty decent for the majority of the rounds. Maybe not his best performance, but he deserves his shot at Khan. And we all want to see Khan in there with someone who can bang.

He looked horrible mate against a guy who is 9-13 in his last 22 fights, this guy is crap slow plodder with power. Khan will do a job on him with ease imo.

I need to watch it properly, but he is mandatory and deserves his shot. This was probably not Maidanas best showing, he admitted he was gassed in the last three rounds, but he might well be able to up his game for Khan. It's a fair fight for Khan too. It's a fight against a puncher and if Maidana is limited, then all the better for him.

I don't think anyone wonders if khan can box better than maidana of course he can, but madana will catch him at least a few times and last time he was caught he was slumped up in that corner with that prescott guy thinking he was hot shit all of the sudden. I'm just sayin khan has been already beaten by a lot worse than maidana, cause prescott is garbage so just prove to us it was a fluke. C'mon paulie doesn't count he really doesn't even hit back. If i had to bet i'd probably put my money on khan but i sure as heck wouldn't be surprised if i never saw that money again.
exactly, Khan obviously would be the favorite due to his size and overall better technical skill, but he would be taking a risk against a massive puncher (probably the hardest hitting fighter at that weight), Khan does tend to mix it up and get tagged, hell Malignaggi even managed to mark Khan up a bit and well that's the equivalence of having rolls of Charmin toilet paper thrown at you by a two year old, I want to see how Khan reacts after getting hit clean upstairs by a guy with awesome power,
and believe me he'd get more credit for that fight than anything else he's done in his career
Agreed with what's in bold. I'm not a Khan fan, but I admit that if he survived another test by a big puncher, like Maidana, and won, I'd give him a lot more credit than I gave him for his win over Paulie. Consider that Prescott is nothing special at junior welterweight (in fact, I'd favor Maidana to destroy him) but he knocked Khan out in one round, and since the fight with Prescott, not one of Khan's opponents - Paulie, Salita, Kotelnyk, Fagan, and Barrera - were junior welterweights that can punch. Whereas punching power is all Maidana possesses. My opinion if they meet is that Khan should win, if not dominate, but all Maidana needs is to land one big punch. And for that reason, the match is interesting.
Skel, we can agree that Khan's main weakness, and maybe only weakness, is his chin. If you were his handlers, who would you avoid? The answer is someone with punching power and enough boxing skills that there is a risk that eventually he'll tag Khan. That in a nutshell is Maidana. And that is why Roach avoided the mandatory fight with him to fight Paulie. Paulie has much more boxing skills than Maidana, but absolutely no punching power.

Paulie would also make Maidana look like a novice, total shut out. We will just have to come back in December, I just can't wait to see the Khan haters and what they have to say after he makes Maidana look silly.
Re: Like I said all along Maidana is shite, Khan will demolish him!
Just watched the fight and Maidana looked out of shape, slow and a shadow of the guy that won all those fights in incredible style.
If he fights and looks like that, Khan will tear him apart with speed alone. But if he turns up, we could see a real tasty battle.

That's exactly what I thought when I was watching it. I really don't think he took Corley seriously as an opponent (who would?) and maybe he started to believe his own hype. I doubt he'll do anything half-assed in his preparation for Khan and I imagine he'll look like a different fighter than the one who stepped in the ring against Corley.
Re: Like I said all along Maidana is shite, Khan will demolish him!
lets remember Maidana hadn't fought in 5 months, was marred with problems due to his promoters and manager taking advantage of him, i'm not saying that there's an excuse to look crappy against Corley of all people, but it could have been just that fight, he's looked great against guys that would mop the floor with Corley

To be fair though, it's all well and good making excuses like that, but nobody went easy on Khan losing to Prescott despite the fact he was actually fasting, which is far more detrimental than being inactive for 5 months...which is fairly normal for most fighters.

I know I've said something similar before, but I think the difference with Khan is that the Prescott KO was the culmination of a glaring weakness which was apparent throughout his career. It wasn't like he had an off-night and struggled against a lesser fighter, he was knocked out because his chin is his achilles heel. I like Khan, and I was cheering for him long before everyone else jumped on the bandwagon, but this situation, like the Alexander - Kotelnik fight, are totally different IMO than the Prescott KO. If Maidana, and Alexander, continue to struggle against less opposition, then they will be deserving of the type of doubts and criticisms which plague Khan.

Hamed and Ali were both known to have fasted for fights and well i can't remember either one of them to lose only because of it, much less sparked in the 1 round by a future journeymen and a complete unknown at that time, what was Khan's excuse for all the other times that he was dropped and hurt against nobodies like Limond?
and there's a big difference cause Maidana struggled against a guy he should have blown out with ease, yet he still picked up a clear win and even scored the only KD in the fight, Khan was knocked silly in the first round by a nobody

Good point on Ali and Hamed.

AMIR KHAN: "I'M GOING TO COME IN AND BE THE BIG PUNCHER"
"When I beat Maidana, I want to let my fists do the talking, not my words...I'm going do something different in this fight, something nobody's ever seen me do. I'm changing my style....I'm going to come in and be the big puncher. This fight, is going to be explosive," stated WBA jr. welterweight champion Amir Khan as he spoke to the media about his upcoming clash with interim WBA jr. welterweight champion Marcos Maidana. Check out what else both fighters had to say during a conference call held earlier today.

Re: Like I said all along Maidana is shite, Khan will demolish him!
can't remember if i've replied to this thread yet - dont think i have
I agree entirely Khan is a class above Maidana in boxing skills and ring craftmamship
as long as khan stays focussed Maidana has a punchers chance and thats all.
wouldnt mind seeing what happening if Maidana lands though (apart from the fact I want Maidana to spark him of course ! :))- but can he now take a punch ?!?
