Re: Bernard Hopkins: Black fighters, we are built differently
Oh... Hopkins will be spewing his ignorant bullshit for years to come. Face it... he's a street-raised punk who's done time. He has no skills other than fighting. He sees his time in the limelight coming to an end. What ELSE is he going to do? He's gonna whatever he can to steal that spotlight... THAT'S what he's going to do. Fortunately, time will continue to pass, and Hopkins' moronic comments will begin to fade away from the public press until he's just ranting and raving on the local street corner, to anyone willing to listen.
Re: Bernard Hopkins: Black fighters, we are built differently
I think genetics has everything to do with aptitude. Still, there are desirable and undeisrable mind/body types in every race with paring making all the difference. After that it's enviroment and development.
Race has someting to do with something or we would all look the same. It's why I believe in creation and not evolution. We were created equally not identically.

Re: Bernard Hopkins: Black fighters, we are built differently
Its much to simple to say 'blacks are more athletic'.
There are some measurable physical differences between ethnic groups (though 'American Blacks' is a pretty broad group, relative to kenyan/ethiopeans).
Different groups have different advantages. As has been noted above, the same ethnic groups do not dominate both marathon running, sprinting (these two are quite different parts of africa) and shot put.
The more a sport is a pure expression of one capability (endurance, explosive power, maximum strength, etc.) the more we should expect to see it dominated by one ethnic group at the top.
Boxing is not a pure expression of one capability. It is first and foremost a skill sport, and on the physical side demands strength, explosiveness, aerobic conditioning, anaerobic conditioning, reach, solid bone structure, skin that doesn't tear easily, etc. etc. No group is the best in all areas.
It is somewhat interesting to consider whether these qualities are at the margin zero sum (i.e. things like % fast vs. slow twitch muscle) or whether its simply a matter of different groups having different adaptations to different extents. If it is simply a matter of some good genetic adaptations, then some mixed ethnicity kid in the future may hit the jackpot, having west african explosiveness and natural muscle mass with eastern european maximal strength and a polynesian head and I don't know what else. But I suspect there will always be tradeoffs. To some extent different styles may play up a given groups advantages.
Re: Bernard Hopkins: Black fighters, we are built differently
Blacks have a higher ratio of fast twitch Fighters than whites.
Re: Bernard Hopkins: Black fighters, we are built differently
I also heard black fighters have darker skin than whites. It's mind bottling! Whats next B-Hop discovers Mexicans are built different than whites?
Re: Bernard Hopkins: Black fighters, we are built differently
Boxing is not a team sport or a other group anyone can think of. It is an individual sport and about the individuals abilities and skills.
Re: Bernard Hopkins: Black fighters, we are built differently
I agree with Bhop a bit, there are a lot more athletic blacks than other race. It is likely that they are built different. Maybe sports suites their quality. I grew up knowing more Blacks that played and where good at sports than any other race. I also think it does have a lot to do with environment and development. For example: I live inn South Seattle where there are less whites but more Blacks who are more into sports and are better athletes than the Blacks in North Seattle where there are more Whites and the Blacks there are not as into sports and not as good athletes.
I think basketball and football are the two main sport Blacks are good at. Those two sports happen to be very popular and it suites there size and skills more so than other race. If other sports such as Hockey, Soccer or MMA where more popular then we would likely not look at Black Americans as athletic race.
