I'll take nothing away from what was a fautless performance but Montiel looked at least two weight classes smaller.
Donaire should be fighting guys like Lopez and Gamboa really, it amazes me he is able to get down to that weight class.
And you had Chad Dawson and PWill over Donaire in p4p category.
Where's Dawson and PWill now huh?
lmfao!
Well both Williams and Dawson were winning their fights until they moved up to their proper weight class.
I don't see how anyone can look at Montiel and Donaire side by side and not think that looked an unfair fight.
Montiel has like a weird dwarf manchild body, he looks like the freakishly tiny man he is. Donaire just looks like an average build 5 ft 8 man, I can't see how in the world they weigh the same.
Look at the other fighters in that weight class, Darchinyan, Montiel, the guy Donaire fought last time out, they don't look like normal build, they kind of look weird with shrunken bodies and mekon sized heads.
Donaire just looks like a regular size guy beating up on pygmie people when he fights.
As for Williams and Dawson being higher, on acomplishments at the time they were! I still stand by that.
Donaire got rated in the p4p on potential not acomplishments. To his credit with a huge win over Montiel he now deserves to be there, although the hyperbole once again went into overdrive with Roy Jones placing him number 2 behind Pacquaio.
He;s beaten two world champs, and credit to him totally knocked them the fuck out, I won't take that away. But it's taken him over 3 years to finally fight a world rated opponent.
Now he's earned his p4p for sure. Let's see how he does in his own weight class.
Actually that's my mentality too Bilbo, but let's be OBJECTIVE here is he Montiel actually the functionally heavier guy in there tonight? Is HBO lying is there a conspiracy?
Yeah I can't explain it to be fair. I mean he's clearly the naturally much bigger man. It was like the size difference between Manny and Oscar where Oscar despite being much bigger weighed in lighter on fightnight.
But he was a shell of a fighter whereas Donaire seems to perform at peak level whilst being, according to the scales weight seriously dehydrated.
It's definitely a freak gift, like it was for Paul Williams at welter. But I want to see him against guys his own size. Him and Gamboa or Lopez is a great fight.
To be honest if it wasn't for all the hype around I could really like him. No doubting his talent, he has literally destroyed two of the best fighters in the division now.
But Lopez was doing that when he started out. As the opposition got tougher and bigger he hasnt been looking nearly as good.
I wont be convinced that Donaire is top 4 p4p until he's beaten a legit champ his own size.
nonito's fight night weight tonight is 126 lbs, if im not mistaken both juan ma and yuriorkis comes in at 140 lbs, not fair my friend.
it's no different than what Donaire would do to his opponents at lower weights, i don't think he should move up yet cause he has plenty of names at 118, but IMO a move to 122 would be only natural and i don't know how he'd handle the likes of Nishioka and Vazquez Jr, personally i don't think he'd handle the power too well, but he'd still be effective if his speed remains intact
If Max Kellerman is right about Kameda generating $uperbowl hype. Then financially wise, Donaire got to fight him in Japan.
the main reason kameda was drawing those numbers was due to fighting naito, for some reason when naito took the belt off pongsaklek he became HUGE in japan, like mainstream HUGE
when he fought the kamedas there was a lot of interest cuz the japanese public sees the kamedas as bad guys and naito was like the national hero
