That annoys me too. I thought the whole point of saying "lol" was because you were texting someone/in a situation where they can't see or hear you're reaction to whatever they've said. So the "lol" lets them know it made you laugh. But if you say lol when someone is there talking to you, it clearly hasn't made you laugh out loud, and even if it did there's no need to say it because they can see you if it did.

This loling in audio appears to be more widespread than I first though. There needs to be more punching in the face going on.
