Come on C-Lo, if I don't appreciate Mayweather i'm not a true fan of boxing? In my case, it's not about lack of appreciation, it's about disinterest, there's dozens of other fighters i'd much rather watch, and to me, Mayweather's fights are too infrequent for him to be relevant to boxing anymore.
I wasn't targeting you on this. I was making a general statement. Whether or not you believe he deserves the money for his fights, he is a great talent and that can't be denied.
I don't deny that Mayweather has talent or that he deserves the money that he's able to generate on his PPVs, more power to him for marketing himself well. Just saying, to me, his fights aren't worth PPV money, and I simply have no interest in seeing him fight, if that makes me less of a "purist" or a 'true' boxing fan, then so be it. I guess i'm just not enthralled/thrilled with the pitiful few fights Mayweather has blessed boxing with the last 5 years, like some of you seem to be.

i personally think he's extremely fun to watch, he's a great defensive boxer and bring entertainment value to pure boxing fans, when i wanna see some toe to toe action, i watch pacqiou, when i wanna wanna watch the sweet science at its best i tune into mayweather

Was Tyson worthy? 50 dollar ppv's that last a couple of minutes? I guess it all depends what you like about boxing. Their are people out their who actually think a fight is a failure unless their is a ko. I do not share those views. I like the science and pugilistic purity of the sport as much as I like the brutality. I enjoy the Chacon/Limon type fights but equally enjoy the methodical break down and technical boxing wizardry of a Mayweather.
A KO is the ultimate in pro prizefighting, especially if it's somewhat unexpected and/or happens between 2 top ranked fighters. Like for example, Martinez's KO of Paul Williams in their 2nd fight, for me, nothing else in boxing beats it. I certainly don't think a fight is a failure without a KO or a brutal beatdown, but this is the hurt business, and frankly

I tried to google it, but couldn't find out where the term "the sweet science" originated, I can remember Archie Moore adopting the phrase and using it often, but i'm pretty sure he wasn't the originator. I believe the phrase can have a pretty wide definition, but the way Moore used to fight defined the sweet science best. I've watched dozens of Moore's fights back in the day and i'm sad to say that most, with a few exceptions, were terminally boring.
I like action packed fights, and I have no interest in watching boring 10-12 round, ass-grabs, chess matches or dance marathons. A good example of what i'm talking about is the Oscar - Mayweather fight, I pity anyone who payed $55 to see that shit on PPV, and thought they got their money's worth.
Anyway, I'm not trying to be argumentative, just stating my personal preferences.

I read once the Marciano and Louis were brought in to help with the promo for some heavyweight fight or the other, some time ago, obviously, but the fighters were making a bunch of money. (Keep in mind that, combined, Louis and Rocky made less than $5million)
As they were leaving in the limo, Marciano jumped out and started jogging alongside the car.
Louis yelled "Rocky, what the hell are you doing?"
Marciano replied "I'm training Joe. Didn't you here how much they're getting paid?"
Joe Louis told the driver "Slow down and let me out; I want to run with Rocky!"
A fighter isn't an accountant or a lawyer: they have careers that last 40 years or more, lots of time to make money, live well, and put some away. A fighter gets ten years if he's lucky.
I don't think Mayweather, or anybody, is worth $40 million for a fight, but God bless him for getting it. Sure as can be he's got 100 people around him trying to carve a chunk out him pocket.

I only used it cause you did but when its really in play I will use it. I'm quite sure the term originated before Moore and most likely around the time of Langford and Benny Leonard. Langford has more ko's then Foreman and Tyson combined but was also one of the first to employ the shoulder roll or "Philly shell" like Floyd uses today. Watching Sweet Pea make people look stupid by applying God given gifts to boxing fundamentals like footwork, feints, direction, is the pearl for me although as I said I also love a good punch up. I grew up playing hockey lol. Leonard /Hearns 1 was one of the best fights I have ever seen and it was a boxing match. I do not think you are trying to be argumentative in the least. Our definitions of boring simply differ.

I've been a boxing fan forever and for years and years I would watch, record and study every fight, from 4 rounders to main events, because I just love boxing. I can enjoy just about everything that goes on in a ring; one of my favorite fights is Del Flanagan vs Sandy Saddler, for tactical reasons. I don't mind seeing an early ko if somebody does something intelligent to make it happen.
I don't follow recent fights so much because of years of paying to watch supposed top level fighters and finding out that they can't fight much. Watching two muscle bound guys stand toe to toe and swing haymakers bores the hell out of me. That's just 'fighting' and, while 'boxing' sometimes becomes fighting, they are not the same thing.
Give me two guys that know how to fight, that hit and don't get hit, trying to outsmart one another, really working, that's boxing.
One of these days, instead of going on'line to watch Olivares and Griffith and boring old Archie Moore (more kos than anybody else), I'll get around to watching mayweather.

You definitely sound like a 'true' boxing fan Grey, i've been watching boxing forever myself, but i'm not nearly as dedicated as you seem to be.
In re: PPVs, very few fights these days are worth paying for, it's not the money so much as it is the principal of the thing.
As for boring old Archie Moore, in fairness to the old mongoose, I only caught the tail end of his career.

I think Mayweather can be somewhat boring to watch, but you have to respect the technical mastery. He is an exceptional talent and his resume though somewhat weak at 140 and above does have a lot of depth. If you are looking for blood and guts then Mayweather isn't for you, but he is a great fighter and I am usually at least curious to see his fights.
The market determines a fighters value and it seems that many do like to pay to watch him. Given the choice I probably would too providing the opponents are up to scratch. Now is Mayweather as exciting as someone like Pac, then obviously you would have to say no. But it's a totally different style and only a fool would dismiss the quality that Mayweather has.
I don't like the guy, but would like to see him fight 2 or 3 more big fights and none of that fighting guys out of their weight class or filler nonsense. Just a few quality fights for the fans.
