Have you actually seen the punch stats? It's not like wlad threw double the amount of punches haye did. It was pretty even. Most of wlads were just jabs anyway.
Wlad threw a lot more punches than Haye, almost double in fact. Haye's output was shocking.
Wladimir Klitschko vs David Haye - CompuBox Stats
How many of those punches were jabs?
I'm not really argueing the point. I agree haye should have thrown a hell of a lot more. To win the lottery you gotta buy a ticket. Haye didn't buy enough tickets.
A punch is a punch....and Wlad was the one stalking down Haye not the other way around which counts for INTENT to actually fight a bit. Haye ran, tried to draw fouls, and it was just a pathetic display, I wouldn't even call it an "effort".
I would have done better yeah it makes me look like a keyboard warrior but I'd go out getting KO'd like a man and not running like a little punk especially after over 2 years of talking non-stop shit "The Klitschko's are boring, I'll save the division" blah blah blah...Britons are rightfully angry at Haye for humiliating not only himself but his entire country.
For your sake hopefully Fury-Chisora has some actual boxing in it.
I read Bunce's article today, even HE has stopped carrying the water for Team Hayemaker. Though he still insists that Haye continue fighting rather than retire.
IMO Haye doesn't deserve to get paid for that fight.
It's getting better all the time ;D
Co-main event
Wlad-Vs-Lyle
ICB-vs-Pac
This could be the next PPV extravaganza. I'm just about to tweet Richard Schaefer, HBO and Adam Smith.

Two things:
Haye threw more power punches AND landed them (power punches) at a higher rate.
What's this about "just" jabs? Really? Just? It was the night of the jab. Wlad threw 376 (if you accept CompuBox Stats). That's what won the fight for him.
It would be more fun to see him throw more power punches, and even more fun if more of them connected. No doubt.
But still a statement like "most of Wlad's were just jabs anyway" ... eh. Don't quite know how to find meaningfulness there.

I'm not sure if you are calling me out there, but I happen to think the jab is extremely significant. It isn't just a jab at all. It's a meaningful scoring punch.
In terms of power shots I have no doubt that it was more even. But asking a fighter like Wlad to unload with more against someone as evasive and reluctant to engage as Haye wasn't easy. Haye did move well to his credit.
I just think there was no excuse for Haye's reluctance to try and win rounds. You have to outland your opponent and try to make an impact and he simply refused.

No, not calling you out. Minor correction perhaps to the impact of your post but not to the general fact. But even that was more in the service of disagreeing that you can use the word "just" in connection with a dominating jab - especially the dominating jab of a tall, strong heavyweight, but it's really true at any weight class.
(My comment that "it was the night of the jab" was to recall the golden boy's comments after his fight with floyd, when it wasn't that kind of night. Just in case someone didn't make the connection.)
It was Hornfinger, not you, whom I quoted regarding "just jabs." And I'm not calling him out, either, just disagreeing with him.

...I've never been KO'd but I'm willing to give it a try ;D
You wouldn't get past 60 seconds with Audley Harrison let alone Wlad.

...WOW it sounds like I have David Haye-esque popularity ;D
Now just imagine me running away and crying like a little girl to the ref for 12 rounds and tell me you wouldn't feel ripped off ;D
That's a bad idea. You'll get vilified even more than being knocked unconcious. Because no one laughs at knocked out fighters. No one would make sigs or gifs and reminisce at your brain damage over and over again.

I may not know you personally Lyle, but somehow I doubt your ability to escape Wlad for 12 rounds. ;)
Re: Former Haye Fans perspective.
Haye should retire he likes the limelight, talks a good fight but fails to deliver and cries when he loses. I do not think he has what it takes to start again and fight his way up the rankings and earn a title shot. He has talked himself up too much, and eating humble pie is not in his nature. If Haye is not prepared to knuckle down and fight worthy opponents like Arelleo and Chiseroa then he should do the decent thing and retire. Haye does not deserve a rematch with that performance.
Haye fought in the comfort zone, not taking too much risks and not really setting the pace with his punches and testing Wlad’s resolve. He was content to try and land the lucky right hand punch, but Wlad was too experienced to fall for that one shot. Haye was fighting for his legacy and he went out with a whimper.
