Floyd never faced Cotto when Cotto was the welterweight champion and instead faced Hatton and ODLH. Pre-Margacheato Cotto.

There's a video on youtube somewhere of him out there being interviewed basically shitting himself when the interviewer asks him why he won't fight Cotto. I wouldn't just make it up.

What fight did MM take instead of a Cotto fight?

R U serious? Which fight would you have told Mayweather to take? Hatton brought in much more money then what Cotto would have brought in. And at that time, Hatton was undefeated(on paper) and was consider by many a real threat with his pressure, come forward style.

He is old and deserves to make some money.
if martinez would like to make some money then maybe he should call out bernard hopkins for a catchweight fight at 170lbs instead of calling out the small guys so that he wouldn't get criticized.

Come off of it mate, you're having a 'mare here. Cotto was undefeated and was a CHAMPION at WELTERWEIGHT. Floyd's weight but he chose to fight a light welterweight . Floyd didn't want anything to do with him.

Hatton brought in more money. That is the main reason why Floyd fought Hatton. End of story. As for a challenge, there is no debate, Cotto or Margarito were looked at as bigger challenges then. At the time, the boxing world was practically begging for a Floyd v. Cotto or a Floyd v. Margarito match-up.
Instead, Floyd fought Hatton. Outside of his loyal supporters, no one gave Hatton a chance in that fight and Floyd actually got a bit of flack for taking it given Hatton's performance at welterweight prior to it.
You ask about what fight i would have advised Floyd to take? For legacy, Cotto and Margarito. For pure money, Hatton. .

i guess that's what floyd saw when he asked hatton to fight at welter. floyd knew the hatton fight was the lesser risk with the bigger reward. it would have been an emphatically more impressive win at 140 though.

Pacquiao said he wanted Martinez, but at 148...what a shocker, at least when Martinez offers up a catchweight it ALWAYS benefits his opponent, he beat up Kelly Pavlik at the full limit of the middleweight division, then gave his two opponents (Williams and Dzinziruk) catchweights in the two other fights, lets not forget just a year ago Martinez was fighting at 154, and the "big names" in that weight still ran scared from him or he would get jobbed (for example Forrest (RIP), Cintron, and Williams I)
funny how a Pacquiao fan of all people would try to criticize any other fighter when it comes to playing the weight game..:-X

Cotto and Margarito was on the raise in namesake around that time. But Hatton was ranked P4P higher then both of them. If Floyd would have whipped either of them instead of Hatton, people would have been saying Cotto was tooo green and Margarito was to slow.
Someone said on this thread, that they all are fighting for the money. So why not take the Hatton fight? BTW, I agree with you. I didn't give Hatton a chance neither. And I would have given Cotto less of a chance to defeat MM. I'm glad Margarito didn't get to fight Mayweather because who knows how long he been cheating?
After Cotto vs Margarito 2, should Floyd fight the winner? Or is it to late?

They're all in it for the money. Name one figher who isn't.
Cotto has consistently fought elite competition, his resume is outstanding.
Ofcourse everyone is in it for the money but there are still afew old school fighters who want to fight the best. Martinez is the best. Cotto shouldnt make money his excuse.
and apart from maybe 2 fights, when hasn't Cotto fought a top 10 guy?
Who says Cotto doesnt fight top guys? Are you saying you dont wanna see Cotto fight Martinez?

IMO he would be more competitive against the rest of the guys at 154 than against Martinez, although I honestly believe that Martinez sparks Margarito in under 5 rounds if that fight is to happen again
as for KKisser, umm you're judging Martinez for wanting catchweight fights when he's the one going down in weight and giving up that advantage, the only other fighter to ever call for catchweights in nearly everyone of his fights since moving up to welter has been Pacquiao, kinda hard not to mention him when he's the only fighter who is CONSTANTLY asking for them, Martinez is willing to shed 10 lbs. and he's damn well near 40 yrs old, and yet still everyone in his division (Sturm, Pirog, and everyone else at 160) is running scared from him, as well as most guys at 154 for example Cintron and Angulo, so you can't blame the guy for wanting a crack at 3 of the biggest names to have fought at 154 in the last 5 yrs being Cotto, Pacquiao, and Mayweather especially when he's willing to be the guy to give up his size advantage to fight all 3
