I still can't get my head round it. When famous people die and there are public showings of emotion, I usually don't get it. Now I get it.
He was a man who always conducted himself in such a dignified way. A weakness mentally is something that many people will cover up, and this will often be something that others will never even know. When they put up the facade of calm and confidence, then it can actually hide everything that is going on underneath. The problem is that the longer the facade is held the further the distance becomes between how and individual really feels and behaves in their own company, and the projected personality itself.
However bad the situation was, it wasn't worth suicide.
