martinez is full of shit:
"The champion has to defend it against the best. The champion always has difficult fights. He shouldn't be learning. You have alot to learn before becoming a champion. Once you are champion you must accept the consequences."
martinez won the WBC Latino Light Middleweight Title against a guy with a record of 18-1. His next 5 fights were against opponents with losing records. their combined records were 44-77-9! the champion has to defend against the best my ass!
I had DVR'd the face-off and just watched it. Awesome! Easily the best face-off yet -- and entirely because of Martinez. That was the best confident, intimidating shit-talking I've seen in a long time. I think Junior was a little thrown. The closer this fight gets the more of a blowout I think it will be - but I'm actually looking forward to it more than any other fight. Hate to say it but Arum actually did time this one just right.
Exactly. Martinez was sitting straight up, looking Junior in the eye and saying clearly: "I'm going to knock you out." Junior was slouching in his chair, avoiding eye contact some of the times, and all he could muster was: "You don't know me" or "I don't think so". Martinez was serious-faced the whole time. Junior had that little sneer of his, and looked a bit fidgety. That's why it looked a bit like a face-off of "man vs. boy".
The funny thing will be not to see Jr. lose, which is more than possible, but to hear what everybody will say if Jr. wins convincingly. I wonder if people will give him credit or hate him more.
If you think Chavez will win and you feel good about that, good for you! I for one am not afraid to state my opinion and my sentiments on the two fighters. I think Chavez has come a long way, yes, but to think that a win over Andy Lee is something to Drool over is silly.
I watched Andy Lee get owned for free by Craig McEwan and Brian Vera like everyone else. If those two guys are not a side show attraction for premier & Elite boxers, then I do not know who is.
I am slightly more impressed with the win over Zbik, but he also floundered Chavez edged him.
If he stands up tall to Martinez and thinks his power is not going to bother him he is wrong. Andy Lee may as well have been playing patty cake. Martinez turns his punches over.
The only way I see Chavez winning this fight is if he has a monstrous weight/size advantage and is able to use this to perfection(which I don't believe he is capable of). I honestly believe that Martinez is going to hurt this kid if he keeps his cool. Martinez has to fight his fight and not have the mindset of "teaching the spoiled daddy's boy a lesson" affect his tactical approach and anger him. If he does this and keeps his emotion in check I just can't see Jr winning.
I would not put it past Chavez to come in over weight on purpose, and just take a hit on his purse. :sumo:
If he does that, it shows just how scared he is.
He has a history of not being professional with his training, his weight, his drug tests, so I will not be surprised at all if he pulls that bullshit.
My money is on Chavez
I wouldn't be surprised if Martinez dominates, but gets royally fucked on the judges scorecards, what would be a surprise is Jr. legitimately winning this fight. And if Jr really believes he can walk right through Sergio's punches, he's going to be in for a rude awakening.
An interesting, but VERY distinct possibility. To be honest, I wouldn't be surprised by this turn of events either. And if he comes in TOO much over the weight..... I wouldn't blame Martinez for not going through with the fight. 'Cause if he did fight and LOST, people would eventually forget that Chavez had gone in over the weight. But if Martinez just said "no"..... all the blame and people's wrath would rightfully fall on Junior.
I hope Junior comes in on weight otherwise it would be a very hollow fight and victory just like Castillio v Coarrles 2.
aren't there commission assigned advance weigh-ins for this fight? 30 or 60 days? if so, we should have an idea of whether jr is on target or not.
i don't think it will do him much good to come in too big. he won't be able to chase martinez down before stamina issues become a factor. does being 25lbs heavier than your opponent give you an advantage if you can't hit him?
