Re: Sergio Martinez vs. Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. - Saturday night fight/chat thread
The sheer fact Chavez being mexican is some big advantage. ;D
Re: Sergio Martinez vs. Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. - Saturday night fight/chat thread
Just watched the two 24/7 episodes.
Now obviously this is an edited TV show but - Junior comes across as a proper Richy Rich spoilt fucker. Don't give a fuck about Freddie Roach, basically don't give a fuck what his old man is telling him.
If Martinez loses to him it'll be a travesty (:D)..... even though the more I watch the more I think Martinez will slaughter him. The judges had Andy Lee in front before the stoppage.

Yes, on Martinez too :)

I can't even really justify that score and I dread it. I can see clearly if Martinez goes to 12 rounds that somehow at least one judge will give a score of 117-111 Chavez. If it occurred for Abril and Campillo against much less 'named' opponents why not to the son of a man who got dominated by Sweet Pete?
I said this before and I really meant it. I am terrified of this box going the 12 rounds and being left in the hand of judges.
Well hopefully, since the NSAC picked the judges and not the WBC, it will hopefully not be so stacked against Martinez. Or at least I'm hoping so.
The corrupt, piece shit Jose Sulaiman is furious that he didn't get to assign the judges for the fight. Of course he's furious, he can't help JCC Jr get a gift decision. This was posted on Fightnews.com
Sulaiman: NSAC has crossed the line!
WBC President Dr. Jose Sulaiman has ripped the Nevada State Athletic Commission’s selection of judges in his recent “Hook to the Liver” column published in El Universal:
“There are some boxing commissions who believe their home is Heaven, and that they are almighty. They don’t understand or recognize that a WBC world champion is exclusive to our agency, for being the one and only owner of this accolade.
“In the case of the September 15 fight in Las Vegas, we are not responsible for the appointment of judges. The Nevada Commission humiliated us, taking out of their sleeve a judge who has only acted for another organization … and that the WBC has never named. This has passed the line of tolerance, and I do not doubt that major steps must be taken to challenge discrimination, abuse, and lack of respect for the most basic principle of justice and rights.”
It is believed that the appointment upsetting Sulaiman is WBA judge Stanley Christodoulou being brought in from South Africa to work the Chavez-Martinez fight.

I get where you are coming from and I have read your points many times on the matter but I have to imagine that at least for the sake of your own entertainment why not just enjoy it? unless constant bashing and negatvity is entertaining to you?
Oh I'll enjoy the fight just fine.... thanks for your concern. ;)
But I see your point about the "pretending" stuff. So you would rather we just ignore all the red flags that could make this fight controversial in one way or another? You know... "little" stuff, such as:
- Junior's already checkered past with doping issues.
- Jose Sulaiman's blatant corrupt ways, especially to favor Mexican fighters (see: other threads on the subject).
- Junior's penchant for coming in (unexplicably) at 20+ pounds over the weigh-in weight. And all the mystery over his fight-time weights.
- Junior's well-known coddled past, avoiding any real opposition until now, with well over 40+ fights under his belt.
- Papa's well-known "chumminess" with Sulaiman, kind of a Mexican mafia, if you will... who's not above pulling a few strings to ensure Junior's following in daddy's footsteps.
Yeah.... I guess I could "pretend" everything's gonna be legit.
But rest assured.... one way or another, I plan to thoroughly enjoy the fight, come Sept 15th.
;)
I understand all that and I am not dismissing it, so even if Chavez wins lets say itll happen with an asterik not matter how it happens. But my questions is a serious one, wouldnt you rather talk about styles or what Martinez has to do to win or what chances Chavez has??
I was having this conversation with my Dad the other day because he also just focuses on the fact that the fights are "fixed" That Chavez has never fought anyone worth watching (he calls them "costalitos" Im sure you've heard the term) And I ask him too, the fight has been made, they are going to fight regardless, and ultimately you are going to watch the fight anyway so why not just enjoy it until its over.
I like to keep everything in perspective. But yes.... I also like to discuss the fight strictly from a technical standpoint.
Junior's biggest asset for the fight is going to be his chin. In every other category.... Martinez has the huge advantage. The fight should be entertaining, 'cause it won't be either a chess match, or a "clutch-fest". Junior has a little pop.... but Martinez has been in with huge punchers before, so again it's nothing to fret about.
Everyone thought that Paul Williams had a great chin too. ;)
Re: Sergio Martinez vs. Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. - Saturday night fight/chat thread
As a public service to the forum, I will now proceed to translate Jose Sulaiman's "Hook to the Liver" column, published in El Universal, and posted above by Diane (translation is in bold):
“There are some boxing commissions who believe their home is Heaven, and that they are almighty.
"The Nevada State Athletic Commission is horning in on our racket."
They don’t understand or recognize that a WBC world champion is exclusive to our agency, for being the one and only owner of this accolade.
"They don't understand that little Junior is under our protective wing, so we can bend rules and influence judges to our convenience."
“In the case of the September 15 fight in Las Vegas, we are not responsible for the appointment of judges.
"Our little corrupt gravy train of handpicking the judges has been taken away from us."
The Nevada Commission humiliated us, taking out of their sleeve a judge who has only acted for another organization … and that the WBC has never named.
"The Nevada Commission went and chose a judge we haven't had the chance to bribe, threaten, and/or indoctrinate on our desired result."
This has passed the line of tolerance, and I do not doubt that major steps must be taken to challenge discrimination, abuse, and lack of respect for the most basic principle of justice and rights.”
"Only I, as President of the WBC, can incur in discrimination, abuse, and lack of respect for the principle of justice and rights.... something I know nothing about."
Re: Sergio Martinez vs. Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. - Saturday night fight/chat thread
Sulaiman has a right to be angry. Not only is Stanley Christodoulou a WBA judge, but he's a fucking terrible judge.
Re: Sergio Martinez vs. Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. - Saturday night fight/chat thread
I am on the side of Martinez. I have no time for Daddy's boy rich kids and support the man from the streets. I do worry about the size of Chavez and the fact that Martinez is now very old in boxing terms, but savvy and precision should hopefully put an end to Chavez.

Which is another reason why we should support Martinez as he is the under dog and we all hate the corporate scum bags that try to bleed fans dry.

I just noticed that HBO will be Showing the Martinez/Chavez Jr. Weigh-In Live, Friday @ 6:30 PM ET.
It might be interesting to see how these 2 look side by side, or if Jr. can make weight.
How can Sergio miss hitting that big freaking head of Junior's.

Seems like everyone is pulling for Sergio on this forum, only a few want Junior to win.

Appreciate the injection of comedy in some of these threads. What does Stanley being a WBA judge have to do with anything? Is it the chance that he might call it fairly? What of Byrd? She could not call a fight in her living room. And the good ole Dave. Another WBC lackey. Btw wtf is Jose doing getting into judge selection?
Martinez being his "diamond" belt holder was stripped of the regular title after Paul Williams. Sergio Martinez does not have the access I suppose to the fair and balanced Jose.
To bad Rocchigiani never followed through on his claim. It would have bankrupted this sorry ass soup can.

It would be cool to have the fans as one of the Judges. I hope it catches on.
