This fight gives non boxing people the opportunity to see what we all see.....the more interest you can generate, the more the punters walk through the door and as a natural result more money is invested from sponsors and the sport starts to grow.
Lets not be so precious about welcoming perceived "non boxing people" into the sport that we love. If he is fit enough, tough enough and has all the characteristics of a good boxer then all credit to him. If he doesn't then I still say well done for climbing between the ropes and being gutsy enough to try the toughest sport in the world.

nonpareil, a competitor who continually defied injury, a legendary drinker, a spontaneously amusing raconteur. He had the lot.
The announcement yesterday that he would miss the rest of this season because of a chronic knee complaint was almost as inevitable as it was comically sad. The immediate reaction to it among many people was probably: "Heavens, is he still around?"
It was in fact a chronic knee injury that ended his cricket career, i don't see the same stresses being applied with regards to boxing and Freddie's dodgy knees? He has had two years to recover, i am an Aussie and i admire Flintoff and what he has achieved, good luck to him in the ring, if it doesn't work out then so be it.

Like any fight card in the world there is a chance that spectators will be disappointed.....its the game and such is life. The fact that we have the sport back in the news is only good for the sport. Even if he cant hold his hands up the fight is attracting attention it otherwise would not.
Dont hold your breath waiting for good fighters and great fights and while you are waiting for a perfect boxing world to take shape, MMA and other crap sports start stealing market share with aggressive marketing campaigns and news headlines, which in turn take the attention of spectators and sponsorship dollars.
Boxing lives on stories, it needs them to survive, this is just another one, good bad or ugly!

are making more of it , than Price V Skeleton.! Been talking to some old pro fighters, about Flintoff they think it's a joke and so do I.;)
As far as I know, Flintoff is 34 and could of had some amature contests until 35?
Would have been a lot more respectful to the sport and it's fighters than jumping straight in to a hyped TV bout.

I don't buy that this is good press for boxing, all this bout does to the uniformed punter is take the piss out of boxing - the undue hype given belittles the time and dedication needed to become notable.
Some of you are talking like boxing needs any bit of publicity it can get. Rubbish, boxing needs to be taken seriously... The watering down of alphabet titles has weakened down the sports credibility enough without what is essentially a celebrity boxing match being given ANY credibility or interest.
