He looked to have lost a step tonight, but he hasn't lost any of his championship heart. He eeked out the decision, but a year ago even he would have dominated Murray as he did Barker and Macklin, who by the way HBO were trying to give those fights to AGAINST Sergio. This was by no means some grand HBO conspiracy of bias for Sergio, they've tried to screw him in the past.
Martinez didn't dominate Barker. He was outboxed and frustrated for most of that fight. You could probably argue that he was behind at the time of the stoppage.
Didn't Barker also break Martinez's nose aswell ? you could also argue Barker easily won 4 rounds in the fight aswell.
As for the thread Murray won and comfortably aswell, and if the 2nd knockdown had been scored there wouldn't be any doubt.
Murray landed the better quality shots, hurt Martinez and dropped him twice. And also had the much better defense, i don't really see how anyone can see Martinez winning, for most of the fight he was clowning and getting outboxed.
The WBC actually used instant replay to look at the second knockdown and hilariously concluded that it was a slip. Fuck the WBC.

LOL!!
Only the WBC can use available technology to confirm their utter stupidity.
They should change their name to WBC, Worthless Boxing Commission.
Re: Martinez vs Murray - Who won?
Martinez won what more is there to say, he is a class above these British guys.

before saturday night i would have agreed with you
even tho barker outboxed him at times i think martinez could have stepped i up earlier and finished the fight and maklin had his moments but just wasnt strong enough and wasnt tough enough
Murrays performance was very good tho, i dont buy the broken hand excuse either, from 6 onwards murray looked bigger stronger and all round better
yeah the fight was very close, the second knock down was clearly legit
i thought murray won, although I wouldnt argue with martinez nicking it, if the fight was else where then it could probably have gone the other way
well done martin murray
Re: Martinez vs Murray - Who won?
Ricky, unsurprisingly had Murray winning something with which I agree. Not so sure that Martin is the best middleweight in Britain though. Excellent article here from a great boxing site http://www.saddoboxing.com/21570-hat...-martinez.html
Re: Martinez vs Murray - Who won?
Immediately after the fight though, Murray acknowledged that he lost. He said that Martinez just nicked it, or something to that effect.
Re: Martinez vs Murray - Who won?
I think it was a close fight but not a robbery.
You cant call close fights robberies IMO.
Personally, I scored it for Martinez by a point but I would understand why some scored it for Murray because it was that close.
Credit to Murray though, he surprised me i didn't think he was that good or maybe its Martinez on the slide, either way good performance from Murray.

So would you if you were an Englishman in a field full of thousands of Argentinians. ;D
Re: Martinez vs Murray - Who won?
I have no idea why Murray faded the last couple of rounds. If he had not I could certainly see him winning. Murray showed himself to be a classy fighter. I was not familiar with Murray prior to the fight, I think we will be seeing more of him. Certainly had that been called a knockdown and if Murray didn't take a nap in the 12th he would have easily have won. I used to like Martinez but that showboating was ridiculous, especially in a fight that was so close. With the calls that were made I think Martinez did win.

Barker was far from winning the fight. He got KO'd and it shut HBO up. Was very satisfying.
