Re: Anthony Mundine vs. Shane Mosley in talks for August/September fight in Australia
Laughable that he's not. Oh legally he isn't.
Re: Anthony Mundine vs. Shane Mosley in talks for August/September fight in Australia
No way is he blameless. Just weigh up intent.
Re: Anthony Mundine vs. Shane Mosley in talks for August/September fight in Australia
Bit of a follow-up from Mosley's side of the story:
Sugar Shane Mosley slams Australian boxing as 'mafia' after failed Anthony Mundine fight | News.com.au
Unfortunately, a lot of what he says is true. Boxing in Australia is in a sad state of affairs and the whole system needs to be overhauled if we're to be taken seriously. Mundine has really damaged the sport, he needs to fuck off and retire.
Re: Anthony Mundine vs. Shane Mosley in talks for August/September fight in Australia
And another follow up. Its apparently just a coincidence that the moment Shane stepped off the airplane he is being asked about a Dec date with fellow GBP stablemate Ortiz who's fight just happened to be canceled.

Re: Anthony Mundine vs. Shane Mosley in talks for August/September fight in Australia
Its all just shady. On one hand I get the feel the promotion were played for fools and gbp and Shane went in with a wink and a nod from jump off. Why in THE hell are you chasing a non factor like Mundine across the ocean when you finally manage to regain traction, eek out a respectable win and obviously have bigger oppurtunity on the horizon with name and promotion?! I get covering expenses and time but I cannot see how they failed to get wind, a hint, an idea or feel that it was all in trouble and don't buy Mosley was shocked or caught blind. They knew it was faultering and just smells strung out for the guarantee. Knowing Fenech did a solid and made an attempt to ensure the general interest of all were meant and the match saved but gets to watch Mosley cash his check just doesn't sit well. Mosley pulled off the impossible and managed to do even less than he did in the Canelo or Pac fights and still pulls a payday. Brilliant! I feel like high fiving him and reading his tips but only by flashlight and taking a bleach shower afterwards. He may be over the hill, and he is, but he has options..still. Fenech got played like a sucker!

They played the whole thing out knowing the ship was sinking is how I see it. Who said Mosley has lost his slickness
Re: Anthony Mundine vs. Shane Mosley in talks for August/September fight in Australia
Mosley is guaranteed 700k will be paid 10 days before the fight. Three days before the fight he still hasn't been paid so goes home. It's reported that only 1500 tickets have been sold (they need to sell 6000) and 1000 PPV buys (they need 80,000).
What's the problem? Do you want him to fight for 300k when he originally agreed to $1m? That's mad.
It's not his fault the promoters overvalued the fight in the first place. It's not his fault that Jeff Fenech bought into the promotion.
Re: Anthony Mundine vs. Shane Mosley in talks for August/September fight in Australia
That's my take so far, half the reason promoters exist(to anyone’s benefit) is to make sure things like this don't happen. They obviously way overvalued the fight, made a guarantee they couldn't honour and yet people want to blame a guy who's been getting beat up for a living the last few years for all this. Is it possible Shane knew this could happen and wasn't opposed to the idea all along? Sure, but that doesn't mean he hoped for it, nor does it make him a scumbag imo. Who wouldn't take some crooked promoters money if they are giving it away. Even if Jeff Fenech mortgaged his house to cut Shane a personal cheque the blame still lies elsewhere as Mosley had nothing to do with reimbursing his expenses in any case and neither of them would've seen their money whether the fight went on or not

Exactly. People that think he is w/o fault here are well...........naive.

Am I tripping balls ??? Didn't Mundine, the cunt that he may be, get screwed by the same promotion...is he officially in the offices of promotion? Fenech didn't even mention them. On paper, in legalees I get the contract. Mosley walking away with another legends money for waiting in a hotel and eating bad airplane food with a clear concious, I don't get.

The balance of the million dollar purse paid in full two days before the bell rings.
A guarantee given and then refused even though they already in good faith paid half up front.
He goes home with 400 k in his pocket for doing sweet F all.
To me that's a scum bag.
Shane was going to walk away ages ago because there was loads of evidence the fight was in trouble, ticket sales etc. So they paid him the 300K up front and he arranged to have the rest paid before the fight. The other people agreed to that , then failed to keep their side of the agreement. There was zero chance he was going to get paid after the fight so he went home. What's the problem?
Also, he's had a training camp for this fight and has taken a bunch of people over there with him. He's obviously spent lots of money getting ready for the fight. It'll be in the contract that he's reimbursed for that too. Shane isn't the problem here unless you think he should fight for 30% of the amount he agreed to and then hope somehow he gets the rest after the fight.
Mundines venues make the money looking at past events on ppv. He draws huge for whatever reason. The problem with your opening premise is that it even makes look like more of a scum bag for taking the money off Fenech.
This Mundine fight wasn't making any money. It wasn't drawing flies. Mosley was promised 100K expenses and all his money before the fight. When he didn't get paid he's entitled to walk away. Nobody even knew Fenech put the money up till he went public about it. He's involved in the promotion in some way and having a beef with the main promoter. All Mosley knew is that the first payment went into his bank account.

Mosley is ready to fight. He's a much better attraction to fight Ortiz than the guy originally pencilled in to fight him. GBP are trying to sell a PPV. It's a no brainer for all parties.

He's going to Australia to fight Mundine because he got offered a million dollars. His next fight on a PPV undercard he'll be lucky to get 10% of that. That's why he went to Australia.
