People think these two were both in their primes when they fought? Cotto is nine full years younger than Mosley!
Shane Mosley's prime was in the 1990s, when you still used a telephone line to connect to the Internet and MTV still showed music videos. He was something like 34-0 with 33 knockouts at lightweight, then jumped up two weight classes to fight the best welterweight in the world, and won.
The post-35 Shane Mosley that fought Cotto and all these other big names in the last five years is not even close to that guy.

That is harsh on Shane. There are fighters where they have problems with certain styles and Vernon was that guy for Mosely. I remember a head clash before he got knocked down and the second fight was closer. Shane was a good fighter.

I agree he was a damn good fighter. But he isn't as good as the flash suggests. People overrate fast punchers. We can see them beaten repeatedly and people still pick them.

Sugar Shane had the guts and testicular fortitude to fight the top prime fighters at their best... unlike Floyd's cherry-picking from 2003 till 2011. Hatton's the sole top prime guy that Floyd fought in that entire time.

Mosley doesnt have enough ring iq to solve somebody like floyd.. Given that he's so quick and athletically gifted , he might find the target more often in his prime but it would take more than a few good punches to beat floyd..

But Mosley isn't what peole reflect and see. Yes his record at lightweight was stirling. But his competition sas trash. First he padded his stats by fighting 6 years before getting a belt. Then hhe faught no great fighters while he had his belt.
Shane LOOKED phenomenal with his blinding speed and thudding power. He was a great front runner with those attributes. But give him issues and he had no answer. He was dumb. He is dumb. If what he was doing wasn't working he would just try it harder, faster. At no point would he ever have more than a punchers chance against Floyd because Floyd would always adjust and Shane simply was incapable.
There's a reason it took 6 years to get a belt.
There's a reason he lost his belts so quicky.
There's a reason he was B side. He wasn't as good as the flash suggested. Go watch the Forrest fight knowing what you know now about Shane. The announcers are fooled by the flash. He had no answer and the announcers were confused because this guy was unbeatable. We saw what was always there. Shane wasn't as good as he looked. Never was.
Jesse James Leija and John John Molina were actually pretty good fighters. Philip Holiday and John Brown were decent. Nither one was trash

He was but so was Casamajor and Frietas and the fights never happened, as well as Cotto and Kostya.

I thought Mosley did enough to win the fight they had when he was 35 years old. I think if he was the same Mosley that fought Oscar he blow Cotto out of the water. I mean Mosley was pretty damn good fighter just not as good as the other sugars like Ray Leonard and the goat.

Mosley has had like one great performance in his entire career against a fighter of hoya's level... what else has he done? It was one of those once in a lifetime performances for him so I dont think its practical to gauge a cotto fight off that night against oscar...

Mosley has been champion at 135, 147 and 154 and he was not paper champion he was considered the man of the division when he had the belt. He has wins over Oscar, Vargas, Moyorga, Margarito, Molina, Lieja, Collazo and Holiday which is not to bad. He lost to Forrest and Wright in his prime and they were pretty big compared to him. He is a hof not a borderline, and as for his fight with Cotto that could of gone either way and that was a Mosley at 35 not a prime one. I mention Leonard because of the names my friend i am well aware that Leonard was a better fighter and is a top 10 atg.
