If you're a promoter of any of those three guys, why put your guy in with Ward?

The boxing fan in me says because he's the class of the division and they sould want to challenge the best. The realist in me says because he's a star at HBO so a fight with him should offer a decent financial upside. Didn't Rodriguez have a contract for $1mm to fight him? That's more than Dirrell makes.

Eddie Hearn has a track record of throwing his guys in with foreign champions in America. He signed De Gale as a Froch opponent and that doesn't look like it's going to happen. De Gale-Groves looks like a possibility. Maybe if it doesn't happen Hearn lets De Gale go to America and lose to Ward on HBO. But if they make De Gale-Groves for a belt then whoever wins will maybe fight Froch again or at least fight somebody like Kessler that makes money for Sauerland/Matchroom, not Ward's people.

Don't know actually mate. I haven't been keeping up to date with potential fights in the 168 division. But if you're Hearn or Sauerland and have a fighter who could potentially make you a lot of money letting him go to America and fight Ward is what you do when you've got no decent options left.
