Re: Peterson vs Garcia - Thoughts
first off, im somebody who hates the term running but the first 4 rounds, peterson was basically running. running is when you have only defense and no offense. peterson for the most part did absolutely nothing offensively at the beginning of the fight.
this was one of those fights that peterson did better, but when you go round by round, garcia probably won. i had him winning the fight 115-113. peterson gave away rounds more than garcia won them. so garcia eeked out rounds because of the complete lack of offense of peterson while peterson won rounds by clearly beating up garcia. i think the decision was fine but peterson did control the fight more. thats the problem with round by round scoring, it doesnt take into effect who did better, it only takes into effect who won the most rounds.
Re: Peterson vs Garcia - Thoughts
Few thoughts on this fight:
1. This reminded me of the Hop vs Taylor fight where Hop minimized his output early, but was still controlling the fight and landing the cleaner punches before coming on to dominate late. I think Hop dominated Taylor more that Peterson dominated Garcia, but the flow was similar in my opinion.
2. I stand by my statements/feelings that Garcia is overrated and will lose to the first elite fighter he faces who takes him seriously. He has decent power and solid boxing skills, but is not fast enough to be world class in my opinion.
3. Peterson lost this fight more than Garcia beat him. Whatever you think about the decision (I would've given it to Peterson), Peterson spent more time moving laterally than throwing punches with bad intentions and judges rarely reward those tactics. I feel he is the better fighter but managed to find a way to lose again.

Peterson was landing while he was moving...no sense lying.

Lamont whooped dGarcia ass, I guarantee garcia wants no parts of a rematch
Showed his Blackness? Does that mean Garcia wasn't showing his Puerto Ricaness?

I'm lying so that I can argue with you

I saw it the same way, kinda.
I wasn't as impressed with Peterson's movement as the BoxNation commentary team were (they were really quite literally gushing over him, which was making me feel quite nauseous)... although it was clearly unsettling Garcia who to me, basically has no ring generalship.
I mean this was worse than what I felt about the Herrera fight, in that the overall look of the fight was clearly in Peterson's favour.
I feel bad for Peterson but I was getting annoyed at his 'movement' (damn fool was starting to remind me of Richard Pryor), so I can see why the judges didn't side with him... Al Haymon connections aside, of course!
Garcia really needs to sort his boxing out now. He is credited with being able to punch with his opponents but really looks one-dimensional and needs to work on setting other traps, learn how to move, at least learn how to cut the ring off.
Also it's strange how he doesn't have much of a physical presence. Can't rough up fighters when he needs to. Really quite limited.
Still a fan though.
Re: Peterson vs Garcia - Thoughts
Whether you think Garcia won or Peterson won is a little bit down to styles you prefer, but the most noticeable think to me was how Garcia has gone a bit backwards. After he beat Khan, then Matthysse, both fights he was the underdog in, I had high hopes for him.
But he looked frustrated, and more importantly going forward and up to WW , he looked the smaller man and he also didn't impose himself on Peterson . Peterson looked stronger and he's not exactly a beast.
I like Garcia, and I think it's a bit of a shame.
Re: Peterson vs Garcia - Thoughts
I've always said that Garcia was good at a lot of things but not really great at anything. He is someone who will always have close fights because of his style. It really impedes his path to greatness but he will continue to be relevant because I don't see him just getting destroyed by anyone.

Personally, I think if he fights Pac, Floyd, Maidana or Thurman at 147 he gets blown out. Throw Porter in that group as well. Kell Brook boxes his ears off as does Khan. Garcia is a solid professional who is an overachiever and has capitalized and caught some lucky breaks from the judges (and his opponents). The Matthysse win was impressive to me, but I other than that fight and the Khan stoppage, he hasn't looked impressive at all. Reminds me of Jake Rodriguez back in the 90s.
Re: Peterson vs Garcia - Thoughts
I have watched the fight and I think Peterson was far too negative to be given any of the earlier rounds. Garcia was calling him to fight in the 4th and anyone can run. Peterson was not landing until 8th and did put on a beating but that was too late. Peterson deserved to lose.
