Mate if those fat a** nfl player played leauge they would need air tanks on the sideline. The difference between league and nfl is that nfl has defence and offense teams....league just has one team and you have to be fit to do both jobs and if youre a fats a** who weighs over 300 pounds then you will probably have a heart attack.
The offensive linemen couldn't play rugby for sure, but its not all that tiring... there is alot of points where rugby slows down alot... 8 on 8 though would be another story... There are guys in football though like linebackers/tight ends/ defensive ends who are 250+ pounds and have more agility and speed than 95% of the pro rugby players out there.

Yes football has the better athletes (barring most linemen but look at yall's fullbacks, about the same) and the bigger hits and therefore is harder to play because of such things. Rugby is to football what Cricket is to baseball...more boring and less skilled
I would say the "athletes" as you call them in American football are very one dimensional and have less skills as they are so specialist.
I cant imagine some of those line of scrimage blokes being much good anywhere eles on the field. In rugby you got to be able to do it all to a certain extent.
What are you talking about one dimensional? Most ofthe guys in the NFL in skill positions have speed, agility, strength in more quantities than any other athletes in the world....

I think the reason they have American football is to give all the fat men of America something to do on a weekend that will boost there self asteam.LOL
HAHAHAHA yeah, it bullshit i reckon. When i watch nfl.....i look at those big bastards and just think of what one of our fast and very evasive centres would do to them. They would run circles around them i reckon.
Thats funny because defensive ends that run faster than the fastest backs in rugby can't get by them... These guys can run the 100 in like 11 seconds and are 260-270 in football with a 30+inch vertical jump and can bench 225 20+ times would destroy most of the guys in rugby.

Taeth I think you need to meet prime Jonah Lomu... 280lbs, 6' 4" and able to do a 100 meters in 10.5 secs, in football boots, on grass, he had American Football teams wanking over him until he fucked his kidneys up. ;)
Re: Which is the harder sport,Rugby or American football? VOTE NOW!!!
didnt the nfl also wank over martin johnson and jonny for a while ???

Loads of the NFL guys are Polynesian (American Samoans and Hawaiians) I reckon they have a lot in common with the New Zealand All Blacks
Re: Which is the harder sport,Rugby or American football? VOTE NOW!!!
football is not the same concept,
its all strategy
Re: Which is the harder sport,Rugby or American football? VOTE NOW!!!
its based on reading defense
the play calling is as important as the playmakers

I was just going to bring Jonah into this debate. ;) That guy was a physical freak... seriously... I think there was something wrong with him genetically, haha. Until his kidneys brought him back to earth, he looked superhuman! His legs were like tree trunks! :o
Don't believe me? Look at these videos... this is just a tiny selection of highlights from Jonah's career.

As for 100m speed, the current fastest player over 100m in Rugby union is Tonderai Chavhanga, a Zimbabwean born South African. He has clocked 10.2 seconds over 100m and is the fastest Zimbabwean on record to date. There are a few other quick guys like Bryan Habana (10.4), Sosene Anesi (10.5), Brett Stapleton (10.33) and Joe Rokocoko (10.6)... then again, speed doesn't really make a sport 'hard'.

Thats the best athlete in Rugby arguably ever who could do it in 10.8 seconds as his one best run, and he was 250 at the time.... Jevon Kearse(6'5, 265) when he started in the NFL ran the 40 in 4.28 seconds, and could do the hundred meters in under 11 seconds as well. Michael Vick could run the hundred meters in under 10 seconds, and he was as strong as guys 50 pounds heavier than him in terms of weightlifting... There is more than one person more gifted than Jonah Lomu in the NFL.

There is 15 to 20 people in the NFL who run the 100 meter well under 11 seconds, and some under 10 seconds... They don't measure that for football they do 40 yard dash, but another thing in football that is imporant is agility, and they have way more agility than these guys ... the running backs I mean look at Reggie Bush, Barry Sanders they cut better than any Rugby player I've ever seen. Also the guys who run the 100 meter in the NFL or are Olympic level sprinters are mostly over 200 pounds... not 78 kg's like Tonderai Chavhanga

I love Bryan Habana ... one of the best rugby players I've seen.

Somebody send Taeth a copy of some of the 1980's State of Origins!! :o
I'm a bigger fan of League but I believe Rugby Union is the harder sport physically. Just take all 3 codes and compare damage after the game! Union hands down!
Re: Which is the harder sport,Rugby or American football? VOTE NOW!!!
wots hard bout doin a few plays in the nfl and standing around gettin ur breathe while the teams get set again and then sittin on the side line for awhile just cos ur team may or may not have the ball, some league players such as Andrew Johns will play a full 80 min game, all the while theforwards will get subed on and off 2 get fresh legs on the field and yet Andrew Johns will keep runnin straight at em.
i have seen in a club game last year Johns completed a set of tackles while he was defending, wot i mean is that he was the marker and the other team played the ball and he went on 2 tackle the ball carrier again, and so on till the got 2 the 5th and last tackle.

Because every second of the play they do they are going all out... Its like sprinting for 5-6 seconds, and you get hit hard... Play it and you'll understand its harder than it seems or else football players wouldn't work so hard on stamina minus the linemen who some are overweight.
