Forget Ali, the best heavyweight who ever lived, Roy couldn't deal with The Real Deal.
I'm tellin' yah, Roy would fall to the pressure of cruiserweight Holyfield. Holyfield would make it a brawl and eat "You'all musta forgot" up.
Re: Prime RJJ vs. Prime Ali
Gyrokai cool click for you, it is funny how little people here have seen of evander at cruizer his only big test was dwight quawi with 11 fights evander had and it was evander winning and dominating the first five with speed, he tired but came back late. He was untocuhed at cruizer, I have seen roy near that weight and evander and the biggest suprise to all of you is that there would not have been a huge differenc ein quickeness their at that weight before holy bulked up and holy certainly had a power punch at cruizer, took a better punch and might have been better conditioned. So ali is beyond preposterous he had long arms and roy could not have outboxed him, much like a larger version of winky mosley

A little bit of exaggeration, Holyfield was not 'untouched' at 190lbs. If Qawi had used better tactics, he would of won fight one. ;)

Roy Jones was faster at heavyweight well past his prime against Ruiz then Evander was at Cruiserweight... WTF are you talking about? Anyways its not fair to compare a guy who is naturally 30 pounds lighter than another guy. In my honest opinion Ali wasn't all that fast and got hit way more than he should have... Roy kept his speed well into his 30's while Ali lost it by the time he was like 29... which inclines me to believe he wasn't as much as faster as Roy was than the competition or because Roy JOnes Jr. was on drugs... I personally think it was both.

WTF - Prime Ali was before his three year ban and nobody has ever seen a hevayweight that fast who got hit that little.
Re: Prime RJJ vs. Prime Ali
Taeth you think roy would have fought hopkins or toney in his 9th pro fight or so? No dude sorry roy wasnt faster at 200 pounds than holyfield at cruizer he was fighting john ruiz, sur ehes gonna look fast against a fighter who has horrible hansdspeed poor footwork and hasnt a speck of boxing ability Fine lets cut the bs, you want to put a prime roy jones in against a prime 22 year old holyfield at cruizer and you think roy is that much faster? id luv to see it you guys would have been shocked. If roy was faster it was marginall but he would pitty pat at that weight against evander while evander hit harder and had a longer reach took a beeter punch and was probably better condtioned and naturally bigger. let the flaming begin but if you want to bump roy up to 200 pounds against holyfield when he was 206 at heavy again roy is marginally faster but a pitt ypat 1-2 against evander is all he could muster while evander was quick enough to counter and hurt roy. Holyfield had very fast hands when he was younger he has a reputation for being a warrior but he wa sat his beast when he boxed. evander should win he is the bigger man i understand that but you guys make more of roy at the higher weights than he was, he beat john ruiz on of the worst heavies i have ever seen. Funny roy picked ruiz and not byrd why was that? Who gave roy trouble albeit past his prime? Another boxer? I think byrd is overated but roy avoided him and hes close to roys size at heavy. Also ali wasnt just fast he had boxing ability, did you see wink wright shane mosley or the soon to be taylor wright. Happens quite often a long reach great jab nullifys speed, again sure roy was probably faster than a 29 year old ali but a 21-22 year old? As you get older and bigger you get slower, roy was not as fast as you think at heavy he fought john ruiz dude
Re: Prime RJJ vs. Prime Ali
Just to add a side note, I have said for years a fighter like tommy hearns would give roy trouble, becaus eof his dimensions a long boxer with a great jab and right hand. Sure roy was past his best against tarver but tarver has a good jab and a decent right hand and wow what a mystery he gave roy problems. A great jab nullifys speed and roy never fought anyone with a great jab and no on ein the history of boxing had a better one than ali ;) Roy is legend around his weight class no doubt and yet tommy hearns would have posted a stylistic problem for him Im not saying he would have won but he would have posed a problem. Boxing is styles.
Re: Prime RJJ vs. Prime Ali
Everyone seems to forget Ali won gold as a light heavy...When he fought in his early years he was only in the low 200's plus we had no cruiser division...Ali's speed was too much for Even Roy at any weight and later on in Ali's career when he developed the ability to take a punch Roy would'nt of had to POP to Ko him
Re: Prime RJJ vs. Prime Ali
Evander Holyfield would have been too big, too fast and too strong for Jones - never mind Ali!!
Good post about Tommy hearns - I would not have thought about it, but I think you're right!
Re: Prime RJJ vs. Prime Ali
Jones only has one fight against Ruiz at heavyweight! He's not even in the same class as Ali. Ali vs. Lennox Lewis would've been a better fight.
Jones probably would have a better chance against a smallerr fighter with a shorter reach like Holyfield or Bryd.
Re: Prime RJJ vs. Prime Ali
Holy would beat Roy becuase he was just soo tough to break down physically AND mentally. Roy would crack. I think Evander would have a better chance against Ali then Jones would.

Virgil Hill had a good jab and very long reach... And Tarver only beat Roy because he was past it, don't get it twisted. I don't expect Tarver would have given a prime RJJ a whole lot of troulble, honestly.. But that's besides the point, the fight Holyfield vs Jones that's being brought up on here could have been a great fight, maybe.. But I couldn't see Holy losing it.. But threads like this should just be banned. Ali? ::**

I don't rate Ali as the best heavyweight, I think alot of what he did was bullcrap and he was soooooo boring post Liston
yeah he was horrible post liston==i mean pitiful
all he did after missing 3years of his physical prime was come back and beat joe frazier and ken norton two out of three (the loss to norton he fought the majority of the fight with a busted grille), knocked george foreman out when george was in his prime and seemingly indestructible (that was after ali had already lost to frazier and norton and was thought to be thru)
he also had wins over quality guys like floyd patterson (twice), jerry quarry (twice), cleveland williams, ernie terrell, oscar bonavena, george chuvalo, ron lyle, henry cooper (twice overall--once pre liston, once post liston), jimmy ellis, zora folley, buster mathis, joe bugner (twice), chuck wepner, and jimmy young (who ended foremans first career with a legit win over him remember).
oh yeah and rocky marciano beat --in his absolute prime mind you ---thouroghly washed up versions of joe louis, ezzard charles, and joe walcott---oh and dont forget thoise world beaters donny cockell and roland lastarza---two househole names
marciano wasnt good enough to be ali's towel boy............

And fighters back in the day aren't as fast as you might think... Roy was WAY faster at heavyweight than Evander was at cruiserweight there is no comparison... Its like Bruce Lee vs. Chuck Norris. Also we never fully saw Roy's combination speed at heavyweight against Ruiz because he would throw one or two punches and get back because of the weight discrepancy, but Roy was hitting Ruiz faster than I've ever seen Ali hit an opponent, and also he was hit less by Ruiz who was faster than some of the guys who were hitting Ali pretty easily (Zora Folley) for example.
Re: Prime RJJ vs. Prime Ali
hhahaha funny man. :D
lets go back to the question.
ALI PRIME vs RJJ PRIME
Ali at his peak.......please ur comparing RJJ at his prime to ALI at his PRIME. :o
i think uve heard in this post a few times now, its silly. i mean i dont even need to say who would win against the two.
Its understandable.
did they forget ALI at his Prime ::**
