Re: Castillo Weighs in at 140; Fight Cancelled.
Noone is faulting Castillo for not making the weight...well to a certain degree I am because 5 lbs is just to much. I'm mad because he LIED. He lashed out several times about being asked about the weight, he said he would have no trouble makig the weight because he wouldn't have a rib injury. Well...? He LIED about everything to save his own ass up until the day of the weigh in. He said he was 140 on Monday. He couldn't lose the pounds? Not even a single pound? He either didn't try or he lied. I'm assuming the latter. If it's impossible to expect him to make 135 then it should have been impossible for him to expect it from himself. He should have at least told his promoter, or Corrales, or someone so this didn't happen. Say he went to Corrales about 2 weeks ago and told him of his troubles, then Corrales' camp could have made a catch weight or something. Or just called the fight off before it got this far. But no. You can't not know that your body is going to be 5 lbs over the week of the weighin, that's just to much weight.

Exactly, it's not like he was 135 this whole time and all of a sudden he jumped to 140. He was 140 for a long time. His weight was being lost at a certain rate during training. He had to know that he probably wasn't going to make the weight. Look I'm honestly over this shit, bottom line, the guy didn't live up to his word. Corrales should move up to 140 and take Castillo's fight with Cotto. Corrales was making the most money, Corrales IMO is the bigger attraction. I would much rather see Corrales-Cotto than Castillo-Cotto. Although the Castillo-Cotto would be a barnburner as well.

Re: Castillo Weighs in at 140; Fight Cancelled.
How could he not have weighed himself a couple of hours before the weigh-in? He knew exactly what he was gonna weigh, and if he didn't he's an even bigger idiot.

Doubt it. Corrales is damaged goods right now, and it's just a matter of time how much longer he lasts. If Cotto loses to Malignaggi then Castillo won't get that fight anyway.
IF there ever was going to be a third fight, it should be at a catch weight, and Corrales should be allowed to fight at that weight once(while Castillo is suspended and can't be active) It's a win/win for Corrales since when he loses he's still the Lightweight champ.

No, you get to a weight whilst still eating and drinking whilst training and then you dry up and suddenly loose water and energy sources before the fight before replinishing them.
in training you loose mass, when drying up its mainly water and stored carbs. Thats why fighters suddenly gain weight after the way in, they eat and rink like crazy and their body rehydrates and refills teh energy supplys. you don't actually get to 135 at the end of camp, you'd normaly get to over 140 and loose about 10 pounds of sweat and food by dieting and drying up. its short, intense and hard to moniter and predict...

Gracias Senor ;D CC returned.
And I have no desire to see a 3rd fight now, catch weight or not. I don't think Corrales is foolish enough to take one either.
Corrales is damaged goods Starr? Corrales is the one pouring his heart out to make the weight. Castillo is damaged goods...
I would love to see Corrales-Barrios, Corrales-Freitas, Corrales-Casamayor, Corrales-Diaz, Corrales-Cotto....the list goes on and on. I just hope he gets a big money fight.

He beleived he could make the weight, he failed and now he is being critised and having unfair accusations made against him because people have no idea how high the goals they make for fighters actually are.
THATS WHAT I'VE BEEN SAYING!!! Don't be critisizing like the guy planned it from the day he signed the contracts. It's NOT that easy.

Corrales doesn't have much longer in the tank. HE'S NOT THE SAME!! Corrales has been damaged goods since the first Castillo fight, sure he won, but at what cost? Corrales aint got that much longer to go. Corrales is damaged goods. He aint got much longer. had Castillo made weight Corrales would have just been knocked out again.

had Castillo made weight Corrales would have just been knocked out again.
Why? Because of what happened in the second fight? Where Castillo was overweight? When they are at the same weight they are pretty evenly matched.

Re: Castillo Weighs in at 140; Fight Cancelled.
Castillo would have knocked Corrales out that night regardless. Corrales been damaged goods since the first Castillo fight. And he would have gotten knocked out again. Don't try to convince yourself that Corrales is the same fighter or that he is evenly matched at this point. The first fight ruined Corrales and he payed a heavy price for that win. he would have gotten knocked out again.
-
Re: Castillo Weighs in at 140; Fight Cancelled.
Anyone who thinks Castillo 'ACCIDENTALLY' weighed in heavy is either naive or flat out stupid. The person who is most shocked right now that this fight was cancelled is Castillo. The guy figured if they went along with him being over last time, they'd do it again. And people need to stop with this 'he didn't think it would be that hard when he signed the contract' crap. There's a name for what we call these guys, it's called 'professionals.' When you sign the contract, you can get down to the weight, unless you purposely try not to and take a gamble that the fight will go on. He didn't miss by a few ounces, he missed by FOUR AND A HALF POUNDS. The guy flat out cheated, pull your heads out of your @sses.

I said he was damaged goods after the first fight and that Castillo would knock him out in the rematch. I just think people are figuring that if Castillo weighed in at 135 that Corrales wouldn't have been knocked out, he would have been.
Corrales would have just been knocked out by Castillo again. HE is damaged goods. It's my opinion sure, but I am sure many feel the same way

Re: Castillo Weighs in at 140; Fight Cancelled.
I don't feel that way, and I haven't heard many on this board that do either.

Re: Castillo Weighs in at 140; Fight Cancelled.
Then why did they pick Castillo to knock out Corrales again ;)

Re: Castillo Weighs in at 140; Fight Cancelled.
Maybe because they think Castillo is better ::**

Re: Castillo Weighs in at 140; Fight Cancelled.

exactly, so let me state my opinion without you all thinking I'm stating it as fact ;) I could very well be right and so could you. So don't act like its just opinion its a very strong opinion. And I base it on the first fight not the second.

Re: Castillo Weighs in at 140; Fight Cancelled.
This throws the door open to Ricky Hatton..
Bob Arum is standing to lose $1m+ from this fiasco.
Arum will want Castillo to headline a fight with Miguel Cotto - For pennies now !
He will want payback, i.e. Castillo fighting on the cheap.
Castillo is a little battle-worn and not a spring chicken and will be looking for the biggest payday out there.
In comes Banner/ Fight Academy with an offer to fight Hatton at 140 or 147 at MSG, an offer that Castillo can't refuse.
Castillo will know Arum will favour Cotto now over him for sure........ Arum will want Castillo to be cannon fodder for Miguel Cotto - a last hurrah for miguel before he fights the winner of Witter/ Corley before moving up to 147.
Castillo probably felt the un-loved fighter next to Cotto in Arums eyes anyway and this situation with Corrales has soured the intentions of Bob Arum for ever now.
Hatton Vs Castillo - that IS a fight worth watching !

Re: Castillo Weighs in at 140; Fight Cancelled.
I see your point AdamGB that it is hard for Castillo to make weight. But that is his job and he gets paid well to do it. Boxing is about more than just stepping into the ring and throwing punches, its about all the things that lead up to that point. Training and making weight is all part of boxing and it should be expected that you fulfil that part of the obligation.
If he knew he was having a hard time making weight he should have contacted the Corrales camp so they could make a decision regarding that situation. Maybe they would have found a replacement or maybe they would have fought at a catchweight or maybe another option. But instead of doing so he strolled up to the scales as if he knew he was going to make weight and I don't see any purpose in that. What did he think was going to happen when he got on the scales?
I think he is a good fighter, but I lost alot of respect for him because of this. I mean sure you can get your money back from your ticket but what about the people who flew to Vegas and booked a hotel room can they also get a refund from that? Or the people who switched around their schedules to accommodate the fight, or the money Corrales is going to lose, not to consider the extra lay-off time between fights for him now. All this could have been avoided with a little notice or a warning of some sort regarding his weight problem. 5 pounds is not something you lose or gain on the day of the fight. This just further tarnishes his already tarnished reputation following the "cheating" at the scales of their second fight.

Re: Castillo Weighs in at 140; Fight Cancelled.
Im with P, sometimes when you win, you actually lose. Corrales got the W, but he lost a whole lot more in fight one. I fully expected Castillo to knock him out in fight 2,3 or however many fights they might have, weight difference or not.
