I have seen this repeatedly and comment very little on it anymore, cause as a practitioner of MMA the dumb and inaccurate shiz I hear about it makes me crazy and its damn near insulting to me as well as a slap in the face to me and everyone who trains hard and competes in MMA
HOWEVER
The guys that predominately post in BoxingTalk hate MMA and post ignorantly about it and hey entertainment value is subjective thats there right to feel that way..
I agree with what they say "LEAVE MMA OUT OF THE BOXING TALK SECTION AND POST MMA IN ITS APPROPRIATE PLACE"
IMO I feel that when a Moderator sees a topic of MMA posted in Boxing talk it should be moved to the MMA section,that way it eliminates unnecessary banter and hard feelings...

Everyone has their preferences. But to say that UFC fighters are not atheletes is baseless, and to assert that MMA isn't a sport is absurd.

Are you really going to defend these statments as having merit or to use your word credibilty? Why do you keep bringing up that this is a boxing forum? This is a MMA thread. It could be a thread on underwater basket weaving on a boxing forum but its still a thread about underwater basket weaving. Tyson's fighting skill and legacy aside are you really going to defend that man as a fine upstanding human being? And lets stop with the "go somewhere else to post" garbage. I post on both the MMA and boxing genre's all the time and it will take more than some childish assorted smiley faces to change that.

Hey jtrock you know I don't mean to disrespect what you do. I've got a lot of respect for you buddy, one of my favourite posters on this forum. As I said to you before I know nothing of true mixed martial arts or K1, Pride etc, my comments were related purely to the UFC and it's bunch of chumps led by Chuck Lidell and Tank Abbott.
Skelton left K1 and has done pretty well in the pro boxing game so I can see there is talent in other sports.

Far better to risk to your health fighting in a no-holds barred fringe entertainment sport, watched by WWF fans whilst the adverts are on for their dragster or monster truck rally tv show, and for a few hundred dollars, than it is to fight on the world stage in front of millions and make a fortune.

[1] In 1993, he created and co-produced the tournament which became the televised Ultimate Fighting Championship.[2] [3] In 1998, Davie, as vice-president of K-1 USA, brought the successful K-1 kickboxing franchise from Japan to Las Vegas and North American pay-per-view television.[1]In 2003, Davie was an Executive Producer with Mandalay Sports Entertainment. In 2006, he became vice-president of television at Paradigm Entertainment Group
So just as I thought it was an entertainment and advertsing guru who 'invented' UFC as a PPV source of entertainment.
Later that same year, WOW Promotions partnered with Semaphore Entertainment Group to produce the 1st Ultimate Fighting Championship for pay-per-view television. Following UFC 5 in April 1995, WOW sold its interest in the franchise to SEG and closed the company.
So they invented it, set up a company then SOLD it for loads of cash! Hmm Marketing gimmick, cash cow, : ^-^
, WOW Promotions sought a television partner and approached Showtime, HBO and Semaphore Entertainment Group (SEG). When I want to talk MMA or Grappling, Jeet Kune Do, Filipino Martial Arts etc. Then I post in my MA School's(The School I belong to) Forum which is worldwide as well.. There is an appropriate place to discuss pertinent subjects that are relevant to the area that your posting...
I still say if Moderators catch MMA topics maybe moving them to the right section might alleviate some frustration...Who knows???

True fighting matches, like the MMA, dont need coporate money because it has never been about the money and never will be. Tyson would get completely and utterly messed up in MMA or UFC if he fought even a half decent fighter in there.
Why? Cause boxing skills dont mean shit when your on the floor in an armlock of strangle hold. The only chance Mike would have is a KO punch at the start of the fight, seen as UFC and MMA take place predominantly on the ground.
Dont get me wrong i love boxing, its the best fighting entertainment out there, much more entertaining than UFC or MMA but the simple fact of the matter is that its pretty useless against and grappling orientated martial arts such as Judo cus people dont stand at distance and wait to be punched. Think about how many clinches there are even in boxing, every one of those clinches would be the martial artists area of expertise and thus he would wipe the floor with a boxer

It's lucky for you guys I'm so incredibly thick skinned, a lesser man wouldn't be able to take the heat and would get outta here.
But getting back to the Nascar thing, once they hit top speed it's just a long precession, they don't need to change gears any more or even turn the wheel. I played Nascar on the playstation, you just keep the wheel permanently on a 30 degree angle bearing left and hold accelarate. Then you just hold that position until you either win or quit the game out of sheer boredom.
I chose the latter option.

Your skin is not nearly thick enough to actually GO to a NASCAR 'race'. My dad did the 'favor' of taking me to one along long time ago(wish i had been in a galaxy far far away).
It was so fukkin loud i thought my ears were going to bleed. I even met a decent lookin girl there , but the stupid a$$ cars were drowing out my petty attempts to get laid. THANKS NASCAR!

The thing about the classic Boxer vs MMA(in a MMA format) discussion is that
1. MMA striking is very different than boxing. There are certain things that just don't directly correlate between boxing and striking(stance/defense/punching style).
2. Most MMA fighters would simply not "box" with a pro fighter. Even if they chose to stand with the boxer you'd see alot of leg kicks and fighting from the clinch(elbows/knees/footstomps).
3. Much like you can't teach someone the science and subtleties of boxing in a few months neither can one master or even become truly competent at takedowns/takedown defense and submissions
I really can't think of a single MMA fighter that would stand a chance against a top 10 boxer in their respective weightclass. But other than a punchers chance I can't think of a single boxer who could win against top MMA fighters.

I believe Tyson would do very well in the MMA. First of all there is no one in MMA who could touch his boxing/striking skills. Secondly, Mike Tyson is a street fighter. Thirdly, Mike Tyson has that predatory intict, t ;)hat acounts for alot in these types of fights believe it or not. Thirdly Mike Tyson has incredible strength. Even if it does go to the ground he is not going to lay there like a fish, and a little ground work coaching for Mike could go a long way.

Firstly boxing and striking are two completely different techniques, being a great boxer (which Tyson no longer is) is not a guarantee of success standing in a MMA fight. Yes he has power and yes he has good hand speed, but those alone are not enough against a top MMA striker. Second who cares if he is a street fighter. MMA is no longer a no holds barred scrap between two fat rednecks. Its a sport with a huge skill set filled with world class athletes. Street Fighters need not apply. Predatory instinc? Come on every decent fighter has this. Lastly BJJ was designed specifically to counter opponents with a strength advantage. Submissions are about technique not overpowering an opponent. That being said Big Nog is no weak sister. Submissions aside there is still the ground and pound aspect that Tyson would have to deal with once he is on his back. Boxing is a great sport and it wouldn't be a bad base to have for an MMA fighter but it alone doesn't come close to preparing a fighter to face a top tier MMA talent
