Secondly, that this is a mismatch I really don't understand at all.
Yes Sam Peter is about as skillful as Mayorga and Toney is as good as De La Hoya, but physically Peter is far better equipped than for example Mayorga was against Oscar.
Peter packs a huge punch and can KO heavyweights with one punch, Toney has an iron chin BUT he's not a real heavyweight so you would have to assume that if he gets hit flush he could go.
Toney's age is also against him, 38 years old! Peter is what, all of 26 or something.
Peter may be rough around the edges but he has only one defeat, to the guy who is unquestionably the divisions best AND he decked him 3 times!
This is not going to be an easy fight for James Toney, and I don't really agree with you saying that Peter can't take Toney to the ropes and win.
Yes Toney is a master at slipping punches but if he's trapped on the ropes with Peter reigning on him he'll be walking a tightrope and will have to slip every single punch else he's toast.
I'm really really excited by this fight, personally I think it's a crazy fight for either fighter to choose to participate in.
Peter, a crude brawler goes in with the most skilful and crafty heavyweight out there, whilst Toney, a short little fat man who should really weigh about 70 pounds less goes in with the biggest, baddest heavyweight currently in boxing.
For me it's a real pick em fight.
I'm leaning towards James Toney cos he's my favourite heavy but I'll be chewing my nails down to a stub whilst watching this one.
Superb posting, Bilbo :coolclick:
Toney could very well be over his head, gotta love/loathe him though. Im a fan and hope he manages a tough decision....

Toney looks a little more in check. Still has titties and a rubber ring around his waist but he looks better, not good by any means though....
Peter is way too big though, could very well cost him the fight. Very foolish....

Re: Just another one of Wacko's Drunken Round by Rounds James Toney vs Sam Peter
Is there any other sport in the world where one of the best in the world can turn up to a competition to decide the second best player in the world where the competitor can turn up at 5'9" and 230lbs, and still be considered a favourite. And let's be honest, the weight that Toney has gained since he was a middleweight is not all muscle by a long shot.
The only sports I can think of are golf (Mickelson), Bowls (all of them), ten pin bowls (ditto) and WWE wrestling (Yokozuna). And the only one of any physical work is WWE, and we all know that's fixed, so come on Sam Peter, KO this wannabe middleweight.

In my view though, the difference is that Peter doesn't have a fight plan based on avoiding the opponent's shots and working with great counter. For this plan, Toney does seem to be a very big man, and the weight will not help him as he tries to duck and dodge through Peter's shots. The plan for Peter is to be as strong as possible, and blast Toney out of there. He's a big fella and packs a big punch, and that is where I think the difference is. Also, Peter is 4 inches taller than Toney too, so he probably carries the extra weight easier than someone of Toney's stature. However, I'm sure if he goes in against Klitschko, Peter would not be as big as he is this weekend, while Toney.....thinks he can beat anyone however big he is.

So you're saying Peter coming in heavy is an advantage and James coming in lighter is a disadvantage?
Peter didn't really look like throwing the shots that he'd need to beat Toney, he won a decision against Hawkins a guy he should have stopped. I'm not sure I'm buying this toney hype. If Toney used a jab then he has a chance, he doesn't. If Peter wins it would be by quick stoppage while he's flaining toneys arms

Naah, what I was trying to say was that Toney coming in heavy affects his gameplan and the way he fights more than Peter coming in heavy does. Peter is, in essence, a very good, one dimensional power fighter. He is going to go in the ring, and try and hit Toney till he falls over. How much he weighs doesn't really affect that plan too much.
However, Toney, is going to go in there, try and avoid and block, and try and counter Peter. What i was trying to say was that Toney needs to go in there agile, and have the 12 round stamina to keep moving and keep out of the way of PEter's big punches through the fight. My view is that if Peter catches Toney flush with one of his biggest punches, then Toney is going to struggle to get back on his feet, and that's why he needs the stamina and agility to stay out of the way.

Re: Just another one of Wacko's Drunken Round by Rounds James Toney vs Sam Peter
Tonight on ESPN's Friday Night Fights we get two treats...the main event is another showcase of up & coming Super Middleweight prospect Allan Green.
Many regard Green as the next big thing at 168lbs. That remains to be seen. Keeping him busy & feeding him leftovers & journeymen has been enough to appease critics so far...no need in rushing him until he's good & ready.
But first...finally...the rematch that some of us have been waiting for!
Augustus Burton II.
For those of you that missed it...back in 2004 these two faced off & Augustus clearly had the upper hand pretty much the majority of the fight...but it fell upon the judges to pass this match off as one of the most obvious hometown knods that we would ever see. Let's see if Augustus can redeem himself as he finally get's his shot at righting the wrong against Burton.

Re: Just another one of Wacko's Drunken Round by Rounds James Toney vs Sam Peter
Emanuel Augustus (65 fights, 32 wins & 17 ko's, 27 losses, & 6 draws) vs Courtney Burton (27 fights, 21 wins with 11 ko's, & 5 losses) Round 1: Okay...here we go! Ten rounds. For once...I finally want Augustus to win. Augustus comes out strong. Nails with the right hand straight down the pipe. Burton returns with the jab & Augustus answers with another right. Right hand again. Burton misses with a jab. Left hand by Burton. Right hand misses for Burton as they go shoulder to shoulder. Augustus jabs. Right hand & then a left from Burton. Augustus pops him with a right hand & Burton lands a jab. Right from Augustus. Burton with a left & then a right. Augustus moving now. Left hand from Augustus. Right hand from Burton. Burton to the body & then upstairs. Left hand from Augustus. Right & then a left from Burton.
Even round IWO.

Emanuel Augustus (65 fights, 32 wins & 17 ko's, 27 losses, & 6 draws) vs Courtney Burton (27 fights, 21 wins with 11 ko's, & 5 losses) Round 4: Augustus comes out dancing & slipping Burton's shots. Augustus showboating & frustrating Burton. This is why I HATE AUGUSTUS. He's acting like a fool. Now here he goes. 12 punch combo by Augustus. He had Burton pretty much just shaken in his boots & now Burton clocks him. Right hook by Augustus. Left & then a straight right by Augustus. 3 punches from Burton unanswered. Nope. Green will win this one. Unimpressively.

UD for Green.

Re: Just another one of Wacko's Drunken Round by Rounds James Toney vs Sam Peter
So, basically Wack...what you're saying is that Green is not the great saviour of the SMW division for America? Does that leave Manfredo Jr and Joey Spina as the great American hopes? Or are we hoping that RJJ will come back down to the weight to fight Calzaghe? If Green was as unimpressive as you say, I'll wait for him to fight one of those contenders that you mentioned, he may just be fighting down to the level of his opponent. But, if he's managed by the same guy as Malik Scott, that could be sometime in 2015.
Can't be cautious forever.
Looks like you were pretty lonely out there last night Wack, but a sterling effort nonetheless. CC for your work mate, tireless, unwavering...i'm very impressed.

He was horrible. No shit. I don't dig on Spina or Manfredo jr. either.
Calzaghe is actually my favorite fighter at 168lbs & then Kessler. I don't get into all that nationality shit because honestly...if the man can fight...fwock where he's from. Ya heard?!?!? ;D
Been on Calzaghe's junk for quite sometime...tried to tell everyone not to get over confident with Lacy & I'll say the same thing if Hopkins or Jones goes over to fight him.

Re: Just another one of Wacko's Drunken Round by Rounds James Toney vs Sam Peter
CC Wacko for the RBR AND for your point about nationality,it does not make a difference where one is from as long as they are good boxers, who cares? There's too much love for a fighter just because he is from a particular place, overlooking his flaws etc in favour of his nationality?!

Re: Just another one of Wacko's Drunken Round by Rounds James Toney vs Sam Peter
Joe Frazer was MUCH more skilled than Foreman ...but size and power won out ....
in no way is this a no brainer or mismatch lol
i seriously think u just say that to make your possible victory againts James toney that much sweeter by pretendng he should win hands down ....lol SIZE MATTERS ....Deigo corrales wasnt as slick or skillled as the "fredo man" lol
also i'm sure plenty people sai that Tyson Lewis was a "no brainer"
ANYWAY i'm not buying it wacko!! because everythying i know about boxing tels me that if james toney wins it will be a phenomenal accoplishment like Ali-Foreman

Holy shit means!
Let me go check my liquor cabinet...because youv'e been in it all night!
If Toney wins...it won't be by any means a phenomenal accoplishment like Ali-Foreman. Sam Peter is nothing but raw power. Watch his previous fights. He hardly uses a jab & all he has is his power & ability to push opponents around the ring with his weight & then loops his punches in.
If Toney loses...I'll be shocked.
Now...stay the fwock outta the drink means...it does you no justice. ;D

CC i left u a lil somthin in the cabinet ...but with joe fraziers bob & weeve defense and Foremans wide looping punches ...how did joe lose so fast ....fights like this is what makes the heavyweight division the most interesting ...its because of the KO punches
Sam peter hits too hard to just let his punches roll off Toneys shoulders ...anyway im starting to feel like i'm the only one who sees it ...i'm praying toney wins though i'm afraid for him 4real
