Re: Just Another One of Wacko's Drunken Round by Rounds: Mayweather vs Baldomir
My Questions:
#1: Can Floyd continue to rise up with repeated success?
Depends who his opponents are... I wouldn't say he is taking the safest route, but at the same time he hasn't exactly taken the toughest route either.

well if PBF wants to really make it crystal clear he is indeed the best pound for pound right now he needs to fight: Toney, Ricky Hatton, Oscar, then no one can possibly hate on him. im a huge fan of his but if he fights other people then the ones mentioned in 2007 id be disapointed.

Once you start caring about stuff like that mate....then you start to get paranoid. Do NOT chase them down with a hunting rifle and a bottle of bourbon. That is not a good plan. ;) Chin up, and have a cc to soothe it better.

The most popular was Hatton v Collazo with 438 posts....some way to go yet eh? On the home screen, there's some things at the bottom, and if you click on more stats, it'll show ya all the things like most popular threads etc.

Don't get me wrong, it was extremely close, but the decision was unanimous for a reason. My scorecard matched 2 of the 3 judges exactly, its not a hard fight to score. But Hatton was being handled, in either the 5th or 6th (can't quite remember) Hatton barely landed a glove. But we score on 10 point scoring system, and overall Hatton's strategy palyed out, other than an extremely careless 12th that nearly cost him the fight. This has relevance on this thread because of all the talk by Floyd saying Hatton doesn't want the fight. Hmmm.... The 2 guys touted to be the men to actually have a realistic chance of beating him (the other being margarito) and Floyd wants to fight neither of them. It makes me sad, I wish Floyd wasn't all about 'business' for 2 fights of his career and we actually got to see how good he was, if he really was an all time great. At this rate I'm going to remember him for his mouth first. :(
You know I loves ya...but let me ask you this (I know you love Hatton & all that): is beating Collazo & Kostya more to remember than beating Sosa, Chavez, Castillo, Gatti, Corrales, & Judah?
That's only to name a few.
Again...not trying to be a smart ass...but I hate for people to rip on Floyd & up Hatton.
I know you ain't being a smart ass, it's cool, and there's no doubt that mayweather has earned his reputation, the list of guys he has beat is impressive, Hatton hasn't beaten as many quality guys, I'd just love it if he was more down to business, and I'm getting impatient with him saying he'll never fight Hatton, I begin to worry the fight will never happen, and I don't think it's ricky who doesn't want it. Your right I do love Hatton more than anyone today because he relates to us brits, but I love watching fights where there's no favourite, between 2 possible future greats in their prime that haven't crossed paths. Hagler v Hearns, Tyson v Holyfield, Ali v Frazier, Leonard v Duran, Hatton v Mayweather you know, they're in the same league.

Mayweather vs Baldomir
I agree that Mayweather should hands down take this fight. It may be a little rough in the opening rounds, but I see him finding his distance and rhythm fairly quickly against Baldomir, who isnt probably the toughest fighter that Floyd has ever had to figure out, stylistically. The question is the pressure Baldomir can keep putting on him throughout the fight and stay coming forward in his regular stalking style; also what about the series of counterpunches Baldomir stands to eat when he misses Mayweather? And like it or not, Carlos is going to be doing a lot of missing in this fight. Floyd would not be that easy to hit if you were trying to do it with a scope and a laser sight, and I do see a possibility of us saying "ta-ta" to "Tata" in the later rounds if he cannot continue to absorb the counterpunching combinations that Mayweather will undoubtedly be seeking to put on him. I would like to see a late round stoppage by Floyd but more likely this will be a tough unanimous decision as I think Baldomir is gonna keep comin at him and keep him on his toes for most of the match. I do think Baldomir has a chance however at pulling an upset if conditioned properly and he fights his heart out (which he has a reputation of doing)...
what do you guys think about the Briggs-Liakovich and Klitschko-Brock fights? Does anyone even care? LOL!

Good luck to Carlos, he deserves his shot and I hope he has a big payday.
At least with the money he can start buying additional stock for his feather duster business.
Perhaps he can negotiate a contract with some mop and bucket firm and sell those on the streets of Argentina.
They could have a picture of Floyd on the side of the bucket and a caption saying 'Mayweather wiped the floor with me'. :P
I don't know, this was the best damn joke ever to appear on this forum and not one of you noticed it. :-\
My rapier wit is so underappreciated here, I think I might go on over to the Dog House where I'd get the respect I deserve :P

Agreed. I am not a huge fan, but a fan. I am a bigger fan of huge fights. He is indeed one half of a huge fight. In my mind Baldomir is not the other.

Is that the secret of your long life? You take all these CC's, heat them gently for 144 hours, then filter them through the gallstones of 144 of the smallest worms, and then mix it with WKD Blue and port to make Crazy Vimto, otherwise known as the elixir of life. I knew you'd been drunk on life for too long....so here's my contribution....a bit of charity for an old man. ;) cC

Actually the secret to my long life used to be my magic ring. But that crazy old man Gandalf had me give to my clot of a nephew who promptly threw it away, the selfish ungrateful ass.
I was so pissed off I decided to leave Middle Earth altogether and sail over the sea, only for that tard Frodo to come with me :-\
Now I'm trying to preserve my longlife by eating Shredded Wheat. Apparently a mysterious warrior called Botham says they are good for your heart......

Re: Just Another One of Wacko's Drunken Round by Rounds: Mayweather vs Baldomir
Okay people...something that none of us have really discussed...other than how badly it sucks...is the undercard.
Paul Williams will be taking a step up against (clearly) the definition of a journeyman. Lucero, while the most experienced man Williams has faced, is being written off as weak opposition.
The question is...is he?
Can he pose any problems to Williams?
Yes to the first one & then no to the second.
IWO, Lucero is nothing more than a springboard for most fighters. Everytime he's stepped up...he's been knocked down. That fool's got what I have begun to dub...Gatti-itis.
He's been knocked out roughly 7 times in the last 5 or 6 years. That aint good. I take that back...it's good for Williams.
Never seen the guy fight...admittedly...but judging from his record...his chin aint shat...& when he comes across an accurate heavy handed hitter...he crumbles. He was stopped in the first round against then prospects Pinto & Bojado. Vince Phillips & Antonio Diaz also got a crack at him & stopped him in the second.
These are knockouts...not TKO's either.
That being said...this seems to be the lamb to the slaughter.
Is there anyone that thinks differently?
Is there something that Wacko doesn't know about "Puños de Oro" that might pose a problem for Williams?
Talk to me people.

Re: Just Another One of Wacko's Drunken Round by Rounds: Mayweather vs Baldomir
I don't think I've ever seen him, maybe I have on ESPN 2 and forgot about him quickly. But considering he's been KO'd 8 times, including KO'd in two by a 42 year old Vince Phillips, I highly doubt he'll make it past 4.
-
Re: Just Another One of Wacko's Drunken Round by Rounds: Mayweather vs Baldomir
He's about the same level for Williams as Gomez was for Margarito

I enjoy it more than you can imagine. I really dig on writing articles & reviews & what not...but for some reason...I've let my front page status go for these round by rounds every weekend.
I feel like it better serves the community...& let's face it...a wasted drunkard aint front page material. ;D
Thanks for the love though...it is appreciated & in the end...I've grown rather attatched to the gig as it has become tradition...for better or worse. :drunks:

Re: Just Another One of Wacko's Drunken Round by Rounds: Mayweather vs Baldomir
Man I am getting excited for this fight. I've always thought Mayweather would take this one, but as the fight is getting closer, I am having second thoughts. Can Baldomir really pull this one off? Wow, I can't imagine Mayweather losing, but I have a funny feeling it might just happen. I'm not even sure who I want to win. Shit man, I am confused!

Re: Just Another One of Wacko's Drunken Round by Rounds: Mayweather vs Baldomir
I think one requirement a boxer has to have to beat Floyd is speed, I'd say at least 7 out of 10. Baldo having only an average speed would be at a disadvantage here naturally. On the other hand, he does carry more natural weight, but being a little shorter (together with slowness), that negates whatever advantage he may have there. So I expect the pretty boy to pick him all night with his jabs and straights, and win by a big decision. The only hope Baldo has is if his weight can bring in extra power to his punches, which may hurt Floyd. But I doubt it.

If you'll notice...pretty every single one of us have all thrown around the same ideas by now.
I'm a clueless as to what the outcome might be...either way...this is gonna be a great fight!

8 hours until the biggest fight of the autumn comes around, or at least until the show starts on Sky sports over here. Anyone else getting excited? My problem is I have no idea what to do until then. Might go lie in the bath for.....6 hours. ;)

I almost forgot Wacko, come crashin' into your party bringing nothing, that was very rude of me :-[. So here's my CC.
Yup, it's a tough call, can't say how much power Baldo can bring in with his weight and how it'll affect Floyd, so we shall see.

Agreed...Floyd is not Gatti or Judah...but I still think that Baldo can make somethings happen.
This could be realy real ugly for both!
Don't believe it's gonna happen, but I sure hope you're right.
Because a clean sweep will give more fodder for the Floyd haters. Saying Floyd wiped out someone whose 15 minutes of fame were up anyways.
Now if Floyd goes in there, takes some punishment, proves he can take the heat, and then goes on to wipe out Baldomir. How can one hate that?
Speed difference is just too much. Don't think it's gonna happen but I'd also like to see Floyd needing to dig down a bit.

Re: Just Another One of Wacko's Drunken Round by Rounds: Mayweather vs Baldomir
It's a shame that the ppv is $50 bux, but I'm not all that unimpressed by the undercard, for $50 yes, but I'm still looking forward to seeing the ghost and Williams. Shame that Lyakhovic v Briggs isn't on the undercard. Stupid HBO vs Showtime.
-
Re: Just Another One of Wacko's Drunken Round by Rounds: Mayweather vs Baldomir
imma go with late TKO PBF. i think PBF will dance and punish all night like he claims he will do. I dont see PBF KOing Baldo but he'll just frustrate the hell out of him and hopefully cut him up a bit.
Paul Williams should win by devistating KO he has alot to prove on this one it being on PPV and all. is it his first PPV bout? i believe so.
