That Douglas could have gone on to do great things and become another Cinderella Man, another rematch with a properly motivated Tyson, fights with a much smaller Holyfield and then maybe superfights agsint the Bowe and Lewis's.
Instead he went straight to the fridge and bombed out.
Douglas has said in the past that he never really liked to fight but he was raised to do it and had some sucess so he continued. If his heart was in in all the time he wouldve been great imo

Scott Harrison - it wouldnt be too late for him to get himself back on track if only he could sort out his problems outside the ring but I really dont know if he'll be able to.

Acelino Freitas. 29-0 with 29 KOs to dancing around the ring and quitting against Chico...

I'd say that all things considered Scott Harrison OVER achieved. Absolute disgrace the way he was handled in the run up to his defence against Nicky Cook.

Re: fighters that you thought would do greats things but never quite made it
charles burley but that wasnt his fault that was due to champions avoiding him like plague but still shame he never got world title shot
and before anyone says it i know he is in hall of fame but its real shame he never got world title shot
Montell Griffin springs to mind aswell had good win against toney then after them jones fights seemed to ruin him and he seemed to go down hill

Re: fighters that you thought would do greats things but never quite made it
Donald Curry was a fighter who I thought was so great in stopping McCrory. He just overmatched him. Donald was so good and now people hardly talk about him, and then a guy like Buddy McGirt who is completely overrated is talked about as though he is great. No way is Buddy McGirt a great fighter and I think anyone who knows boxing knows this.. He was a good fighter. Donald was much better quality than McGirt and didn't have a bum left shoulder to blame for loses when he did lose.

HOWARD DAVIS THE OUTSTANDING BOXER OF THE 1976 OLIMPICS
DIDNT CUT IT AS A PRO

Re: fighters that you thought would do greats things but never quite made it
Sugar Ray Seales was another - Best Boxer award at the Olympics, Gold medal etc, then a detached retina.
Howard Davis Jnr was another .... he was like Ray Leonard with the talent but didn't have Ray's competitive heart.

Re: fighters that you thought would do greats things but never quite made it
Who was that U.S. Olympic Gold Medalist that won alongside SRL (I think anyways)? Shortly after turning pro, he turned vegitarian and he was no longer in fighting shape. I think it was Leo Randolph but I can't be sure. Either way, he was a tremendous fighter who never did anything because he just wasn't in the shape to do it.

Its funny how when it comes to stating facts...people tend to have nothing to say.

No No..its obvious that you no way more about boxing...It was wrong of me to disagree about Andre Ward...especially since its hard to predict that he will become a dud given that fact that he has only a few fights and hasnt lost a fight in 10yrs...but I admit that you are right.

That is ridiculous. He looked shaky his first 5 or 6 fights but he is looking great right now. He injured his thumb but in that time he has improved a ton. I've seen every fight in his boxing career so far and I've no doubt he will be a champ one day. Honestly, he's got a dynamite jab, he's fast as hell, got a great defense and works in combinations. His main fault right now is that he gets to cocky and tries to become Roy Jones Jr. But unfulfilled potential? No way.

Howard Davis and Bernard Taylor

Re: fighters that you thought would do greats things but never quite made it
I have one. Larry Mosley. One of the best amateurs from the 90's. Solid fighter who going into the Figueroa fight was as hot as any prospect there was. The Figueroa fight was a real step up and would have led to bigger and better things for him but it kind of fell apart that fight. An excellent outside fighter who for some reason abandoned the jab in that fight and while it made for one hell of a bout it cost him. And against Johnson he fought on the backfoot the entire time and really had no answer for Johnson's aggressiveness. Only 27 and he did score draws in both those fights but he might have stepped up too fast because he looked like he had no confidence against Johnson. Hopefully he can turn it around but I'm doubtful :-\

I think Paz went as far as his lack of defense and hot temper could take him. All things considering I think he did pretty damn good.

Or LESS if he didn't eat so damn much. ;D
I think James Toney if far from a wasted talent or anything like that. He is a legend and has accomplished a whole lot. He is no doubt an all time great in my mind, former MW Champion, SMW Champion, Cruiser Weight champion, WBA HW champion and HW top contender. He is an extraordinary fighter.

Re: fighters that you thought would do greats things but never quite made it
Yeah he could have been more at heavyweight. That's about it in an otherwise fantastic career.
