Barrera just fought as competively as one can do against Marquez without getting a knockdown scored. This is no shot Barrera. He did better than Pac against Marquez IMO...
He can still hang at the top. Barrera can and will fight for 12. Pac has been picking on left overs for a while now. Barrera can still impress. Im surprised he is being written off by so many.
Its a pick 'em and if Barrera is hungry enough then he can take it....
I agree that MAB is NOT a shot fighter. Most people saw that when he KD Marquez.
I just hope people (like you miles) who believes that MAB is NOT a shot fighter would give Pac some credits if he beats MAB for the 2nd time.
I will hate to hear
"Pac beat up another shot fighter".
hahahaha dressing up your gal Pac for the Prom !! MAB was slow and plodding against JMM and landed one lucky punch when JMM left himself open being offensive just as Soot did against BobPac. No outcome is going to camouflage the fact that MAB is many wars ahead of PAC, 5 years his senior. Win or lose the guy is fighting a geriatric boxer and the rematch is far too late. If it boxes slow with no speed or movement then he is old ( from the walk like a duck addage ) the guy is just old. No amount of text is gonna make him 25 again. If MAB wins well kudos to him but is just means PAC never polished up his rough edges and was over hyped. I thought only liquor got better with aging not beating the sh*it out of aged guys making a boxer better ....

Hey if MAB floored JMM in his last fight, chances are he could do the same thing with Pac. So don't be naive of counting Barrera out.
Fwockin-A MAB is still a very dangerous fighter!
Re: Pacquiao Barrera II October 6th
I believe these guys to be threats to Manny in this order:JMM,Guzman,Valero,Soto,MAB. JMM had MAB beat comfortably in my and most repsected writers at other sites opinions. JMM was careless to leave himself open like that,he was on the verge of stopping MAB. MAB could not outbox JMM and dam sure as hell could not outbrawl him,so I don't think he will be able to against the Filpino firecracker, the Pac monster(that description sounds cool, doesnt it?Just read it somehere!)

I think we saw quite the opposite . Barrera statistically came out on top he just wasnt given teh decision
The same thing happend in teh first Morales fight . He outbrawled and outboxed him but got robbed on the scorecards , however everyone knew he was the real winner so he got the superfight with Nas . Similar thing here . People know Barrera got the better of Marquez and thats why he is fighting Pac and Marquez is fighting the loser of Barrios - Guzman
Re: Pacquiao Barrera II October 6th
I thought Barrera clearly won the first Morales fight but I'm not sure how anybody could have seen him beating JMM. Clear decision IMO.
Anyway I'll be rooting for Barrera but I doubt he pulls it off.
Everybody talks about Barrera being on the slide, and I think he definitely is not the same as he used to be, who does. But wonder how long Pac has as an elite guy. His style is not built to last, especially since his speed is such a big factor. That and he started boxing young, taken a lot of punches.

This is great so this means we could see JMM vs. PAC II early 2008 if they both win their next bouts....
I think those anti GBP people who were talking s*** were banned ;)
How about Soto though? Seems a lot were giving him a better chance then are giving Barrera, though MAB is a much bigger name and will make a bigger card.
No gonna lie I've only seen Soto-Bobby Pac so I can't judge.
Barrera has not looked himself. Lose to JMM understandable but two close fights vs Juarez is a bad sign. I thought Juarez should've lost to up-and-comer Hernandez.
Mab is pretty worn out, add another KO to Pac's record.
I love when people try to discredit MAB for his fights against Juarez. Juarez was one of the best young prospects in the business when he fought Marco...a young fighter with a tremendous punch. And please don't forget...in the first Juarez fight....Marco had been preparing to fight Chavez at 135. Chavez injured himself...and Marco had to get up to fight Juarez instead. He toughed that first Juarez fight out....showed he still can gut out a fight. In the second Juarez fight....Barrera put on a boxing clinic. Dancing. jabbing, and controlling the fight like a fighter many years younger. Juarez was completely surprised and couldn't adjust....so MAB won easy. People need to give Marco a WHOLE lot more credit for that fight. And then Marco fought Marquez in a great match. People need to give Barrera his major props...the man is ending his career taking no easy route. Pac on the other hand has fought a shot Morales and some nobodies in his recent fights. Again...Pac will deservedly be the favorite in this rematch....but Marco is going to give a battle....and anything short of a completely focused and prepared Pac (and he always seems to have a million distractions in his life)....could find himself in serious trouble.
pac fought a shot morales? i remember barrera considering retirement after he lost the first fight with manny, then he started winning fights again and he wasn't shot after all. i hope you wouldn't say that after pac beats barrera again... oh, of course you will. and what if erik starts winning again? nah, imo erik isn't shot. he's just has outgrown the 130lb-division and wasn't motivated against raheem.
Erik getting stopped in 3 is not shot?! ::**
You obviously follow a cetain path! ;)
he was weight drained and he chose to slug it out with manny. it was either him or the pac.
He was weight drained, boxing drained and guts drained a fraction of the EM of old. He was nothing more than a paid employee and has nothing left. In his next fight you will see just that and of course all the Pac huggers will say Pac caused it rather than the accumulation of wars he was involved in. Where does it leave PAC if EM stinks up the place again ? Well obvious to all boxing fans except PAC fanatics.
he chose to slug slug it out with PAC ?....EM was never a KO artist he basically had nothing & was falling all over the ring even before Pac tagged him. He was neither fighting inside or outside. He had no strategy cuz he had no physical condition to go to war. EM basically quit to save his old ass from getting pummeled. Coming off his losses he had no business being in the ring and if were not all about money or involved a lesser known boxer he would not have been given the honor to fight and earn such a payday.
we'll see how erik fares in his attempt to wrest a title in a 4th weight division. until then :-X
and oh, erik morales never a ko artist? check his fight record from the time he started up to 2003. i think it speaks for itself.

I think Pacquiao is the one in trouble here. Word has it his focus isnt what it used to be since the Morales fight. When he first fought MAB, he came out of nowhere really; not a lot was known about him. I think he has been much studied and broken down by the Barrera team since then and that will play into this fight differently than the first; Barrera was obviously confused and overwhelmed. MAB has not seemed to be on the downward spiral. Everytime he has looked rusty like against Juarez the first time (which he still won somehow), he came back with a near shut out and then fought a great fight against Juan Manuel Marquez, which I still believe should have either gone to Marco or should have been a draw. This will be a much closer fight this time around against Manny and I think Barrera may have a few more surprises up his sleeve than even the boxings most avid fans and knowledgeable experts suspect. This guy is one of the best fighters of his generation, one of the top 3 best Mexican boxers ever, and never ceases to surprise me.

I can count the number of people who thought MAB outboxed and outbrawled JMM on one hand. And compubox is hardly a reliable source(see JT Spinks for reference, and MAB is nuthugged by HBO team as much as JT is).

CC totally agree.

Im sorry to sound so negative but I was trying to offer something a little fresher with my thread.
Many people see a long running thread and decide to stay clear. I speak from experience.

On this new initiative the Calzaghe: Kessler threads should be all merged too. But they are not. Why get picky with a thread that I feel is valid and worthwhile? I am after all a boxing fan. :-\
Im really quite annoyed by this. >:mad

You shouldn't I merge topics that are similar all the time (at least when I catch them ;) ) Some will slip by.
The last thing I wanna do here is discourage YOU or ANYONE ELSE here.

I know what your intentions were and that is why I left the POLL open. If you notice it's still there cause the original post/thread didn't.
And you will see how the people feel about the fight cause the Poll is still there.

No you are not being negative. I will admit and I've said this before I'm some what of a neat freak and when I see 2 topics that to me can be merged/are the same then I merge them. You know I'm always on the other pages here I tend to go there to see if topics can be merged from back then.
I mean look at the 'Best/Up and coming prospects' thread. It was done by OumaFan back in 2006 I think and 'til today I've merged about 3 or 4 threads to it some have been polls some have been just threads. But when you go to the thread and read through it I think it's a gem of a thread that it's like 15 pgs. long of up and coming prospects. I forget the fellas name but he created his 1st thread (not post) but his 1st thread and it was on rising prospects, I merged the topic and also I usually say and post 'Topic Merged' so that people are aware. I explained it to the fella that he did well and all that and he should be proud that he contributed to such a great thread. The fella was and wen't about posting for the rest of the day. Again I don't wanna discourage YOU or ANYONE here but if there an exsisting topic I personally DO NOT have (or at least will try not to have) any issues with it. The problem is like the other day there was like 3 Margarito-Williams threads I merged them all. I think it makes for a better talk and we get to bring in everyones opinions into 1 thread instead of having 3 different threads going on all about the same thing.

Don't really know what to say to this cause go through the pages and you'll find 100's of threads with like 1,2,3,4 replies. Not pages but posts/replies.
I think most people just post wherever not really thinking on how many people have posted so far.

As I stated in my previous post.
If I pissed you off or got you upset those werent my intentions. I merge topics all the time if I feel the need to.
Please DON'T hit me up with the victim role, please. Yes you are a boxing fan, yes this is a site for you and everyone else to speak their mind on things. I'm a boxing fan just like you so believe me I know what your saying.
I remember on several occasion before I was a MOD several of my topics got merged and it could be just me but I didn't see anything wrong with it nore was I discouraged I just went into that thread and continued chatting.
I will be more careful and look closer into merging topics.
I know theres people like me (and I've seen it here) where they go into a topic and just post something like (Isn't there another thread here on the same topic? Why do we have 2?) Look at the Cotto vs. Judah thread I merged that puppy together since the fight was announced leading into the weekend of the fight that IMO is another great thread I think it wen't upto 19 pgs. and even then I didn't see people getting discouraged to post in there. Neither should you. You've been here long enough to know that your comments/posts are as valid and good as anyones so you shouldn't feel like jumping into a thread of 10, 11 pgs. isn't a good idea. ;)
I hope you understand where I'm coming from and if you chat up and talk we can do it over PM's so that we're not on the Main Board.
Thanks,
