Re: British Super Middleweight Title RBR - Carl Froch v Robin Reid
Good head shot from Frotch! Reid was tough not to go over but to go on one knee. Did he make the count?
Who cares, his corner pulled him out anyway. Apparently Reid had a shoulder injury! Errrm, right!!!

Re: British Super Middleweight Title RBR - Carl Froch v Robin Reid
Reid's pulled out of the fight in the corner, and I guess that's it for the Reaper Man Robin Reid. I guess Froch's power was just causing him too much trouble. The announcer said that Reid was pulled out with an injury to the right shoulder.
They share a nice hug at the end, and seem to be fairly cordial towards each other. I didn't think Froch had the workrate, but the swinger in this one was certainly his power. It'll count as a decent victory for him, and he'll be hoping that it leads to a world shot.
Reid giving Froch some coaching afterwards, telling him where he was doing well.

Re: British Super Middleweight Title RBR - Carl Froch v Robin Reid
CC for the rbr Rhun, you're getting good at it. Sounds like a bit of a nothing fight really, not learned anything we didn't know already about Froch, he needs another fight soon to keep busy if he's healthy.

Re: British Super Middleweight Title RBR - Carl Froch v Robin Reid
In action from the undercard, John Murray proved that he is a real prospect in demolishing Dean Hickman to claim the English lightweight title with a fifth round KO, and in what was due to be a keep-busy fight for Super-bantamweight British title holder Esham Pickering, he got comprehensively outworked, outpunched and nearly got knocked out in the seventh round of eight against game journeyman Sean Hughes, who celebrated hugely, and must have pushed himself into some sort of title contention.
Afterwards, Johnny Nelson called on Pickering to retire.

Ok, everyone's been coolclicked on the thread, and check back here tomorrow night for the Haye v Mormeck fight.

Re: David Haye v Jean Marc-Mormeck RBR - World Crusierweight Titles
Nice work superheavy....home late for this one so you and the boys made this an informative and entertaining read, wish Reid could have turned back the clock and was hoping for such too...but not to be, and well done to Froch for delivering a win in what was a potential banana skin for himself, but love or hate Froch, the guy has come thru another test in his march towards maybe greater things....
c.c to ya superheavy for your time and for making it interesting too.

Crap ain't it lol, but bcollins maybe we should pressure our leaders into treating us as at saddo's as a new religion, there by giving strength to our claims for National Holidays whenever we get a fight show that needs our "Prayer time and devotion"...... I cant get shot for that can I lol... :badass:

Re: David Haye v Jean Marc-Mormeck RBR - World Crusierweight Titles
I agree that this was the fight that'll push Froch towards World glory, and although the pundits on the show were talking a lot about maybe going for an European title. I'm still sure that Calzaghe's gonna vacate and throw the SMW's into chaos...and that'll give Froch the shot he wanted and test him on a world level. What'll happen....tune in next time on Looney Toons RBRs.

That's not a bad idea - days off for fights. I vote yes!
Sounds like Froch's moving on up - who's next in line?

Re: David Haye v Jean Marc-Mormeck RBR - World Crusierweight Titles
I'm with superheavy re Joe C vacating very soon, so Froch could be finding himself in the right place at the right time this near future as Joe vacating will leave all kind of options opening up for him with various belts and match ups becoming available, and good luck to him it ain't luck, he is fighting himself into these positions on merit to, he is starting to impress me now, though I'm still a long way off being converted, but hats off to him for tonight.... :badass:

Reid completed the fifth round, but pulled out of the fight whilst on his stool during the break. At the start Reid was asking his trainer for one more round, but got talked around by his trainer and withdrew from the bout.
Since then Reid has announced his (second) retirement from the sport of boxing, but has everything to be proud of looking back through his career. He was the British SMW that did get the chance to fight the best, usually in their back gardens, and was always game. He suffered plenty of defeats and setbacks, but would put most fighters through a tough fight to claim the win. However, after his performance tonight it's probably fair to say that he couldn't cut it at a level above the British title at this stage in his career, but probably faced one of the strongest British titlists who still held the belt ever. Froch probably should have moved on a year or two ago, and is now probably at a world level, and was too quick and strong tonight.

Overall...how do you think that he looked?
Was he more on point tonight than he was against Lacy...or did he just peter out down the stretch? The knockdowns didn't seem they were that devastating...or am I wrong?

When Reid fought Lacy, I didn't think that he was really at the races, and that he really felt that he could do what he wanted to. Tonight, Reid was focussed, on his game and really wanted to claim that British title. He was working well and looked to be landing some fairly solid shots on Froch who wasn't really fazed by it. It was basically that Froch just showed how power and accuracy can do more than sheer effort and workrate can do when it comes to boxing, and I was impressed with how he was able to put Reid down three times when he wasn't really on the front foot in the fights.

Good lookin out my nuh!
Possible outcomes of these bouts in Rhun's opinions :
1: Bika
2: Lacy
3: Kessler
4: Mundine
5: Calzaghe
#5 is probably not even an option...& I am sure that you are on the same page with me as far as that answer goes.
Anywho...get back.

Flippin heck man....are you trying to prevent me from ever deciding that I ought to get to bed. I gotta drive to my old place pick up mail etc in five hours... :p
Anyhow, here's how I think that these fights would go.
#1 - Froch v Bika - What I've always thought of Bika is that he is a spoiler that will be able to win, up to a certain level. Bika did well in the Contender series, and was unlucky not to win a world title against Markus Beyer. For me, I think Froch has shown, as he did tonight to some extent, that he can still put in harmful shots when he's on the inside and there's a bit of wrestling going on. Froch also has the same macho streak Calzaghe has, and I think he'd look to outmuscle and outhustle Bika, but I think that the accurate punches would find their mark and send Bika to his first KO defeat in the middle to late rounds.
#2 - Froch v Lacy - First off, I'd like to have a look at Lacy v Manfredo before I pass final judgement on this one. However, I think that Lacy would struggle to find the mark against Froch, who has good movement and a solid chin (which I was also impressed with tonight), but it depends on how much of Lacy's power he still has left. I believe that Froch would do the majority of the work, but if he's caught consistently by Lacy, then he could get stopped. If not, or if Froch starts using his guard even more, then he should win a KO in 6-8 rounds.
#3 - Froch v Kessler - This is certainly the toughest fight at Super-Middleweight for Froch, because Kessler is unlike anyone he's been up against before. For me, Kessler is a quicker version of Lacy with a bigger reach and better heart. I think that Kessler would prove too much for Carl, not only moving forward in straight lines, but capitalising on Froch's habit of dropping his left hand lead, which he did less tonight, but still often enough for Reid to clip him a few times. I believe that Kessler would have to really dominate to stop Froch, so I think Kessler would win a points victory, 116-110 including a couple of knockdowns.
#4 - Froch v Mundine - Mundine is actually returning from his eye infection next month, so I guess this is back in the realms of reality. I think this one would be amongst the most compelling of the fights, because they both have a boxer's style which is supported with a venomous punch. I think Mundine's had his weaknesses exploited more often than Froch, and Froch will find it easier to get to Mundine than vice versa. Although this is the bout of two punchers, I think they'd both be worried about each other, and that Froch would eke out a points win. No knockdowns, not a great tear-up, but interesting to watch and a masterclass in tactical boxing.
#5 - Froch v Calzaghe - With Froch throwing down the gauntlet to Calzaghe at light-heavyweight this evening, let's assume that is where it happens. My worry is that although there are certainly similarities in the counter-boxing style of each fighter, Froch is the one packing the power. However, Calzaghe is the one with the movement and the elusiveness. Two great chins, one unified world title holder, and I'd have to tip Calzaghe to put in the hard yards once again, and outwork Froch in almost every round, from a more awkward southpaw stance. 118-110 Calzaghe.
And finally....
The one which you may have forgotten about Wacko is:
#6 Froch v Bute - Two punchers, one orthodox, one southpaw. Bute has claimed the championship already by outpunching a puncher, and I reckon that this would also be a competitive match-up for both fighters. In fighting against Berrio, Bute was fairly careful in unloading his big shots, keeping a decent guard, but was still able to be caught, and I think that the accuracy of Froch could help him to win a few rounds with flurries from accurate shots, but I also think these two guys could be a coin-flip of a fight. And cause he's British, my coin flip points towards a Froch KO down the stretch. But a tough, tough fight either way.
And now, hopefully, I'm gonna go get some sleep.

Honestly...I want to applaude you in some quick thinking & a good post... :coolclick: in another 24 hours.
My thoughts on your thoughts...while they are goodies...
#1 - Froch vs Bika - Kinda agree…but disagree. Bika takes him the distance…in a really REALLY tuff one. Froch on points…but it’s a hard night.
#2 - Froch vs Lacy - Totally agree…have to see Lacy vs Manfredo before I pass final judgement on this one too.
#3 - Froch vs Kessler - Agreed. I think Kessler would also win…but I say that he stretches him out.
#4 - Froch vs Mundine - Disagree. I say that Mundine has enough to get to Froch.
#5 - Froch vs Calzaghe - I agree…but Calzaghe’s chin & movement will always be a deciding factor against anyone that he faces.
#6 - Froch vs Bute - I’ll agree with you…as I don’t really believe in Bute that much. I like what I have seen…but for some reason…he aint really settled in for me.
Maybe I can get my wish & see a dual knockout here.

Re: David Haye v Jean Marc-Mormeck RBR - World Crusierweight Titles
I was pleased with Froch last night. I feel that he won every round and dominated the fight with using the jab. His power I feel wasnt even fully unloaded, he never let that right uppercut loose and that is his most devistating punch.
Reid landed a few decent punches and I believe the last one Froch felt a bit. But this shows that he does have a chin and he fought on and won the rest of the round. Reid couldnt do anything apart from land those shots except for the odd one or two on the inside. Carl was in full control of the fight and that right hand proved that he is on the higher level now.
There are things Froch can improve on like punchrate, but when your fighter is countering a lot its hard to do that. But his flurries would definatly put anybody on the back foot and I liked those from Froch. His right hand is very powerful and if anybody got caught with that at 168 they will feel it. Reid has a decent chin as well and Froch proved his power in there. I liked the fast Froch looked dominant in there and I believe he suits that stlye of fighting.
I believe when Froch gets in with a puncher who has more power and likes to throw more he will benefit and find the gaps, hes good at doing that. The jab will be a good factor for Froch in the future because Reid just simply found it hard to get through it and had to try and wonder punches to hit him. Those right hands will be where Froch is deadly and im really looking forward to his next fight so we can see more of it.
It was a good performance for Froch and although he did get caught a few times, he showed he could stand up to Reid and finished him off with the right hand. I think Froch needs to get in with a big puncher in his next fight and the name Edison Miranda and Sakio Bika are the two names that are appealing to me the most because I believe they will be the two men to test Frochs power even more and back up the fact he is on the world level and does have a decent chin. I favour Froch in both of these match ups.

OK, this is based purely on both of the fighters' encounters with Joe Calzaghe, because that is where both fighters faced their biggest test and found themselves wanting. For me, going into the championship rounds both Kessler and Lacy were behind on the cards, and their responses to those situations were very different. In rounds 10,11 and 12, it seemed to me that Kessler dug deeper than Lacy and looked to catch Calzaghe with big shots, whilst Lacy seemed to resign to defeat and only wanted to survive the distance and avoid the KO. Basically, and I know you're a Lacy fan, but when both men were beat, Kessler was still swinging and Lacy wasn't.

Re: David Haye v Jean Marc-Mormeck RBR - World Crusierweight Titles
OK guys...we're about 40 minutes or so away from fight time....estimating about 9pm for that start off uk time, which i believe is EST 4pm, and even earlier west coast. Anyhow, former WBA light welterweight title Souleymane M'baye (yes, that guy who lost to Gavin Rees!!) and is showing Panamian Ameth Diaz a fair beating so far. Be back later for the main event.
-
Re: David Haye v Jean Marc-Mormeck RBR - World Crusierweight Titles
M'Baye wins in 4th Round but headbutted opponent and Diaz was unfortunate but good finish for M'Baye
-
Re: David Haye v Jean Marc-Mormeck RBR - World Crusierweight Titles
That wasn't the same guy that fought Rees, was it? Must be his better more agressive twin.
Nice use of the headbutt.

To be fair

SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO FUCKING EXCITED ;D ;D ;D

OK, we're on to the ringwalks, and David Haye getting a mixed response from the French crowd there. There are a few cheers for Haye, possibly from some travelling fans, but also a few boos.
Mormeck gets a short ringwalk too, and his WBA and WBC belts behind him getting plenty of attention too. Both fighters look nervous out there. Haye's got a sweat on and Mormeck seems to be wearing a waistcoat from his wedding suit. Haye's pacing back and forth, not sucking up the crowd as much as he usually wouldn being the away fighter this time.
Mormeck looks significantly shorter than Haye, which he is, and will have to look to get inside because Haye will look to establish his jab.
National Anthems, then its fight time.

OMG, these national anthems are truly dreadful. The ITalian one (referee) was sung by some guy from the pub, the British one was sung by some toff who got paid one whole ticket for the fight, and the French was sung by some embarrassing French version of Tina Turner. That is a really embarrassing start to this evening.
However, next, I promise, is fight time!
