You would pick anyone over Calzaghe how about Ann Wolfe vs Calzaghe how would that go ??
Ive said for a while that Woods would beat Calzaghe
What aspects of Woods arsenal would help him prevail against Calzaghe. You must have your reasons for thinking Woods can do this?
I think he hits harder than Calzaghe i think he likes a war more than Calzaghe and he has come a long way since his 6th round stoppage loss against the great peak Roy Jones Jnr. Calzaghe has backed out of a fight with Woods about 3 times as he did Glenn Johnson who Woods fought 3 times Calzaghes win over Kessler was good but had Kessler been just that bit busier he would have won he was throwing and connecting with the heavier shots.I don't think Calzaghe has a real war in him.
I'd argue that with...Kessler tried bloody hard to force the fight, but Calzaghe's fast hands forced him to cover up. Kessler was winded by a cracking body shot by Calzaghe, and had the referee not intervened, Kessler may have gone down. Even Kessler admitted he was in trouble. Woods has come on a bundle and does have great power, but I feel Joe is just too fast for him and would box rings around him for a wide UD. People say Joe hasn't got power, but he has plenty of KO's, he busted up Lacy & Kessler's left eye was near shut after the fight.

If this fight gets us talking as fight fans it must be a fight worth making ;)

Well it's a good fight, it just doesn't do much for Calzaghe's impression in the US, which is what I thought he wanted. Otherwise, I'm very happy to see it. Woods is right, it's far more exciting than a fight with Nard.

Re: Joe Calzaghe vs Clinton Woods
Calzaghe has left it to late to fight in the states 1 fight in the states won't really make any difference he should just step up to lightheavy like he has threatened for years and fight Woods will he get alot of credit for beating a 43 year old Hopkins??

Yeah, he would!
It's a testiment to Hopkins ability really. I respect him for being as good as he is, but he's just not that exciting anymore, and I don't really care about his fights. Plus he's all mouth.
I've said before, the fight I really want for Calzaghe is Taylor, but Taylor is fighting Pavlik in Feb. My second choice would be Jones, but he's tied up with Trinidad. So I'd take Woods in the meantime if nothing exciting is available.
-
Re: Joe Calzaghe vs Clinton Woods
I'd prefer him to fight Roy Jones if he does'nt fight Woods

The interesting thing is, Hopkins isn't a LHW champion. He has The Ring belt, but officially, he has F*** all. I think Joe is looking at Woods as the longest reigning current LHW champion, a guy who has challenged him on a number of occasions and sees it as a good back up because it'll be one more UK fight, it'll give him the oppertunity to become a 2 weight world champion, it's a fight he should win and it's leverage for future fights at the weight.
Hopkins is the LH champion, all Woods has is a belt that was stripped.
A fight & victory over Hopkins would make Calzaghe a linear two division champion. A win over Woods is only one division & a belt (not a championship) in another.

Johnson beat Tarver Woods beat Johnson Hopkins beat a weight drained Tarver lets not forget Hopkins was beaten twice by Taylor

Re: Joe Calzaghe vs Clinton Woods
Woods is a good solid light heavyweight and has good speed and a pretty good punch output. He is underrated and has the tools and size to give Calzaghe his first loss imo. If Calzaghe starts to trade toe to toe like he usually does he will get hurt. Even though Calzaghe would probably be a favorite Id pick Woods by a close points win.

Hopkins was beaten by Taylor but at 160 not 175. Tarver beat Johnson again to regain the championship. Woods beat Johnson after that. Tarver was the LH champ coming into the Hopkins bout... weight drained or not!

Re: Joe Calzaghe vs Clinton Woods
Ok but Woods as mixed in good company he deserves a shot against Calzaghe i wish Calzaghe had fought Johnson when he should have don't know how he would have handled him constantley coming forward throwing big shots.

As I stated earlier I feel a Calzaghe/ Woods fight would be great but a win over Hopkins at LH means more for Joe's legacy than a win over Woods!

I believe the yanks would say but Hopkins was 43

Johnson couldn't even deal with sheika for christs sake, calzaghe would of ruined him like he did sheika. Whilst glen was durable and had some big shots he was a nothing more than a guy you stick in with fighters who you want to gain some exp.
People let their respect for glens heart and desire as fighter cloud their sight on what an average boxer he really is.

Hopkins only 1 fight at lightheavy though Winky was at catchweight were'nt it??

Still within the 175 limit.
-
Re: Joe Calzaghe vs Clinton Woods
Hopkins is a great fighter but i can't get past the fact he is 43 he lost twice to Taylor beat a weight drained Tarver then beat Winky who had been Lightmiddle and Middleweight fighter coming up.
-

If he beat Calzaghe (it's a big if) would you say the same thing... Calzaghe was the smaller man coming up. Although I'd favor Calzaghe it is not impossible for me to see the experience of Hopkins winning through!
-
Re: Joe Calzaghe vs Clinton Woods
why doesnt calzaghe grow some balls and fight winky wright...
perhaps because calzaghe could never beat anyone with even a SHRED of defense
;)

Winky is a bit more hittable now so IMO the defense won't help him all that much...2 years ago and it would have meant trouble for Calzaghe

Calzaghe wouldn't fight Miranda! No point. Not a big enough name on his record.
He'd rather have Pavlik!! But I can't see Pavlik stepping up
-
Re: Joe Calzaghe vs Clinton Woods
If Pavlik is fighting Taylor at 11 stone 12 lbs he could fight Calzaghe at 12 stone only 2 lbs in it

I'm not even going to get into a debate about Calzaghe with you...
be like playing chess against a retard

Whatever mate im just saying no way does he beat Woods in the same way Jones did i cant see Calzaghe stop Woods in 6 one sided rounds
-
Re: Joe Calzaghe vs Clinton Woods
i don't think he'l stop him.....but it will still be a beatdown.
I don't see Calzaghe having as much pop at 175 as Roy did but he'l still batter him.

How do you figure that? Hopkins stepped up 2 divisions to challenge the champion Tarver. It's all well & good to say this sort of stuff in hindsight but Hopkins was the under-dog going into that fight, Tarver was the favorite. Then he fought Wright one of the great defensive fighters around. People criticized Hopkins for fighting a smaller man but thats exactly what Hopkins did... & won!

I think he had a tougher time with Bika than he should have, Salem & possibly Reid. Other than that Calzahes been pretty dominant. Those 3 I would rate as lesser to Woods!

Bika, Salem, Reid, all made it a dirty fight and very untidy thats why they gave Calzaghe tough fight Woods would not do the same.

Your probably right but Woods would be the naturally bigger man in the ring, I see Calzaghe using his boxing skills to clean up. I don't think it'll end in a stoppage but Woods maybe hanging on in the end!
