Very well said....Clotty is a guy always in the fight and always dangerous but nothing to dazzle you
Anyone notice Buffer with the reading glasses?

Re: Anyone watching or doing RBR on Clottey card NOW.
115-113 ???
That's charitable.
I don't like Clottey but he's a solid fighter, just cruises too much, too casual for me.

I think he was more or less trying to work on some things tune himself up...he knew this guy had no chance of getting him out of there or ourpointing him...Clottey could have stepped it up at anytime...why not use the fight for some good work before a title fight....
Gotta applaude Alvarez he was a game kid in there...I respect a guy who does not just give up after they know this is going no where for them

Bit of a bore, gotta think Clottey could have turned it on more but I guess the win's all that matters.
I agree

He's got that shell defense working for him. I like Clottey in the Cintron fight when it happens.

Maybe so but to me its a pattern with Clottey, never seemed like the hardest working fighter inside the ring IMO. Or lacking a killer instinct. Something.
Maybe other times he's been worried about his conditioning but nothing really to worry about in that fight.
I'm not a tough man contest fan, I like the science of boxing but for a guy like Clottey grabbing the attention of the fans wouldn't be a bad thing, just because he may be deserving of a shot doesn't mean he's necessarily gonna get one.

Maybe that's what it was. But it seemed he was getting his shots in as each round wore on, and turned off the gas after the 9th round. A win is a win, and maybe his hand bothered him towards the end. Like Ouma said, not a killer instinct; a finisher. Honestly I haven't seen him look all that great since Margarito, where he was so much sharper. Credit though to Alvarez, he took some beating to the body and quite a few upstairs, but the later rounds he looked like a swinging heavy bag. I hate to say it, but Cintron very well could put this guy to sleep early if he doesn't impose himself more. JMO

Re: Joshua Clottey vs. Shamone Alvarez Dec. 20th (IBF Eliminator)
They just had a title eleminator and that was the one that Berto won why is he not getting a chance at teh belt is he facing Clotty.
-
Re: Joshua Clottey vs. Shamone Alvarez Dec. 20th (IBF Eliminator)
Well it said the IBF and WBC tile Eliminator but i figured Berto be more likly to fight Cintron then fighting Mayweather so thats why i ask.

I've heard you make this comment a couple of times... And it got me thinking.... Normallly, I believe I'd agree with ya, obviously a guy who makes his name off a loss generally shows something, but not enough to win in that instance... That's where Id disagree with regards to Clottey... He hasn't really lost in the same sense that would establish that opinion for me... I mean he was way ahead against Baldomir, and got DQ'ed... Fair enough, but that's certainly not a result which you should base his chances in other fights on imo. I do realize that he used his head and all, but he hasn't really shown that tendancy since, that I know of, and even in that fight it was only out of frustration towards the end. Then against Margarito he did hurt his hand, after imo showing clear supremacy over the first 4.5 rnds. What is that supposed to happen again, he can't be given that benefit of the doubt? I'm just not sure he can't still be a solid contender... I can understand ppl who say he doesn't quite have the mentality, but that's why I want to see him fight the best, he'll make for a hell of a matchup with any of the top WW's and we'll see where he's really at.

Re: Joshua Clottey vs. Shamone Alvarez Dec. 20th (IBF Eliminator)
Aha! So my boy won! :)
From what ive read, im suprised Clottey didn't try and step it up at least once. Maybe he was puposefully casual, maybe he was mindfull of his stamina. Odd.

I don't think Clottey will destroy Cintron. He;s a pretty ordinary fighter imo. He couldn't KO a lightweight Coralles who wanted to go toe to toe so I don't think he'll KO Cintron.
Cintron isn't great but he does have a high workrate, Clottey will fight well for a few rounds against him and then just slow down and content himself with a points defeat.
As I've said before he's a front runner.

Re: Joshua Clottey vs. Shamone Alvarez Dec. 20th (IBF Eliminator)
I just saw the fight now.
Good job by Clottey as almost everyone predicted he'd win by UD....
:appl: I hope he either get's Cintron or Williams.

Clottey is the kind of fighter that doesn't do any 1 thing great, but he is good all rounder and a solid fighter. Clottey's constant pressure combined with his solid chin will be hard for Cintron cope with, considering how suspect his heart is.

I don't think so i think Clottey will be all over Cintron like a rash. If Clottey has done his homework on Cintron he will realize how Cintron look disheartened against journeyman Feliciano with his pressure style, and how he quit against Margarito when it got too tough for him. I actually think Cintron could very well quit against Clottey.

Definitely one for a signature bet then. Clottey could well beat Cintron, Cintron isn't exactly the greatest welterweight in the world but he has come through hard scraps. In case we are forgetting he did WIN his fight with Feliciano although most regard it as a defeat whilst Clottey did LOSE to Margarito although most regard it as a victory.
Both fighters claimed hand injuries in those fights as well yet Cintron is now seen by most as a quitter whilst Clottey is seen as tough warrior whose hand injuries denied him a certain win a world title.
Go figure :-\

Re: Joshua Clottey vs. Shamone Alvarez Dec. 20th (IBF Eliminator)
Alvarez has a good chin he took alot of shots and stayed up. Clottey pretty much shut him down with his defense, and with the early bodywork Alvarez's shots were losing steam. I do think Clottey coasted a bit, taking it easy on Alvarez the last few rounds.

Re: Joshua Clottey vs. Shamone Alvarez Dec. 20th (IBF Eliminator)
Man,what the heck was that by Alvarez,?! I think I saw the wrong fight or something¬! Wasn't this a guy with a shot at a world title if he won? He could have let his hands go more anD I've seen some of his previous fights,he usually puts alot more on his punches. Fairly mundane fight. I don't know what it is but there is something I really don't like about Clottey. I don't know whether it's his laid back attitude or whatever,I can't put my finger on it.
I think he's tough as nails but I see alot of flaws in Clottey which I have mentioned on numerous occasions. I see Cotto breaking his body in half, his high held guard is superb for blocking head shots but Margarito wore him out with those arm punches he was throwing,Cotto would hurt him. Williams woul out hustle him like Tony did. A Cintron fight would sure be interesting. I don't think Kermit is a bum,he HAS shwon heart,in his fight with Teddy Reid so I give him a chance v Clottey, especially with his power.

Re: Joshua Clottey vs. Shamone Alvarez Dec. 20th (IBF Eliminator)
Alvarez did what he could. Clottey's defense was damn hard to break thru and that straight right hand of his was killin Alvarez. I'm surprised that Alvarez made it thru the 8th and 9th rounds and went the distance. He looked to be outclassed and Clottey's expierence made a big differnce too.
