I find most people that put him down have only seen him fight sinse he fought DLH. Which means they hardley ever really saw him at his very best.
You think that statements silly huh?
Throughout Tito’s career he beat a lot of decent fighters…but not boxers. I’ve seen almost every Trinidad fight out there & I saw Tito when he was at his best…but his best weren’t shat when he faces boxers with a defense & game plan backed by a boxing mind.
Whitaker, Carr, & Campos were Trinidad’s most impressive wins to me…but beating Pernell was just cracking the shell of what he once was…so it’s hard to rate that one.
I never said that Tito sucked or that he didn’t beat good fighters in his rise…but there is a huge difference between beating a good fighter & a good boxer.
Rookie Fan or not…you know that.
Hector Camacho was a good boxer and Tito beat him comfortably and also ODLH. Even if you don't consider it a victory its still on the record books and it was a close fight that could of gone either way.
Camacho was a decent boxer...yes...& there are a few on Tito's list worth mentioning. Joppy is one that I like to credit Tito for utterly destroying...but I still don't buy into that Oscar win...not matter who tries to convince me of it.
That being said...bringing Camacho into it is all well & good...but once again...let me clarify...beating good fighters & a good boxer is different...or atleast in my eyes it is.
I just can;t believe that people try to over look the Hopkins, Wright, & even Oscar fights as Trinidad losing to overly accomplished boxers.
You feel me?
Camacho NOT a good boxer? Yeah, right wacko. Camacho was an AWESOME boxer. Is what you should be sayin is that he was old as hell by the time Tito fought him, which is the truth. But in his prime and even after it for a while, Hector "Macho" Camacho could box extremely well.
Once again...I need to understand this.
Why is it that when people question something that you say in a post...they're really questioning what you did'nt say at all.
NO WHERE DID I SAY THAT CAMACHO WAS NOT A GOOD BOXER.
I said he was decent...which he was...but he was far from being a challenge at the stage when he fought Trinidad.

Show starts at 3AM on Setanta Sports 1, so we can probably expect the main event to kick off sometime between 4 and 5am. Once again my sleeping patterns will be wrecked next weekend. :p

Is Cory Spinks on the undercard ???

Re: Wacko's Round by Round of Roy Jones jr vs Tito Trinidad! Happy New Year bwoyo's!
It will be interesting to see what Tito weighs in at. I'll feel better about his chances if he comes in closer to 160 than 170. That would show that he's in legit shape.

I haven't really seen any training footage for this fight at all, anybody else have any ideas?

All I've seen is the HBO Countdown special. Roy looked fast and Tito looked slow. Jones looked serious and Tito looked happy. That pretty much sums it it up. I don't know how much you can take from the countdown specials. They only show short clips of training, but the few clips they showed of Tito doing bag work, his hands looked pretty slow. In the clips of Roy, he looked pretty crisp.

I think the Spinks fight is cancelled. As far as I know, the undercard has a Golota fight, a Kamarzin fight, and Devon Alexander against Corley.

The previous poster said something about sleeping patterns being wrecked. Cory Spinks can, well, put you to sleep. I thought you were being cheeky about Spinking putting people to sleep. But I guess it was a legit question...dumb me...but Cory can certainly wreck my sleeping patterns at times.

Re: Wacko's Round by Round of Roy Jones jr vs Tito Trinidad! Happy New Year bwoy
Here are some of the guys TIto has been sparring with. Tell me if this indicates he is serious about this
fight:
According to El Nuevo Dia , Edgardo Santos, Eliécer González and Julio de la Cruz are the three men helping Tito :
Santos, who last fought in 2004, has a pro-record as a cruiserweight of 1-4-1
De la Cruz, who also last fought as a pro in 2004, has a record of 15-4 with 14KOs as a middleweight.
González, is said to be nothing more than a local gym rat and has NO pro fights.
Again, does it look like he has been serious for this fight?
I just posted this here so you guys can see how serious Tito has been taking this fight. I love Felix Trinidad but this is a $$$ fight, pure and simple. Those sparring partners actually make me wonder how affected he would be by a loss! 170-the weight for the retired and old and overweight.
-
Re: Wacko's Round by Round of Roy Jones jr vs Tito Trinidad! Happy New Year bwoyo's!
Jones Jr is gonna win this one handily. Trinidad couldnt handle 160, let alone 170. I like Tito but its like Winky BHop only worse because Tito has been so inactive....
-
Re: Wacko's Round by Round of Roy Jones jr vs Tito Trinidad! Happy New Year bwoyo's!
I voted Jones Jr by DEC and don't think a stoppage will happen as Jones has not had a KO in 6 years and even though Tito will be rusty I think this bout will go to the scorecards for a UD victory for RJ.
-
Re: Wacko's Round by Round of Roy Jones jr vs Tito Trinidad! Happy New Year bwoyo's!
I think anyone with a bit of power is gonna trouble Jones now, Trinidad has power, it may not be as much as Jones has been hit with, it might be, Jones hasnt taken a decent whack in a while, the last time he did he was ko'd and by Johnson who dont really punch.
As long as Felix is in good shape and has done lots of sparring I can see him stopping Roy, it dont take much to beat jones now

Bullshit. This is a mismatch, Jones is gonna have fun then take him outta there, we all know it.

Re: Wacko's Round by Round of Roy Jones jr vs Tito Trinidad! Happy New Year bwoyo's!
Jones aint what he was, hes slower now, I bet all his fans wince at every punch thrown in his direction knowing it could be goodnight Roy ;D
He has an heir of fragility of him these days and although Felix may not be what he was either, he just hasnt fallen apart like Roy
I dont think the size difference will make that much a difference here, it will be the activity, if Felix stays busy Roy loses and bad ;D
In fact, I say Mayorga beats Jones as well, theers a nice little side show
-
Re: Wacko's Round by Round of Roy Jones jr vs Tito Trinidad! Happy New Year bwoyo's!
Roy will keep the fight in the center of the ring and beat on Tito. Tito will be slow as molasses considerin the weight and long lay off. I do not see many good rounds for Tito let alone him winning the fight. Has Tito stated any intentions to fight on after this fight? Roy has. I figure Roy is hungrier and always was the MUCH better fighter.
-
Re: Wacko's Round by Round of Roy Jones jr vs Tito Trinidad! Happy New Year bwoyo's!
Felix is obviously in it for the cash but he has stated he wants a bout with Calzaghe
Felixs gain in weight will be balanced out with Roys age, this will be the fight where he will be forced to think about retirement ;D
Felix is or was very acurate and Roys defence has always been suspect and now hes slower :P
-
Re: Wacko's Round by Round of Roy Jones jr vs Tito Trinidad! Happy New Year bwoyo's!
There is always the chance that Tito will hurt and finish RJJ.
There are better chances that Tito is going to be embarrassed, either by a TKO or (as I voted) decision.
Roy doesn't have to be at the top of his game to accomplish this. He isn't, obviously, but he doesn't have to be. He just has to do well defensively and the rest will sort itself out in his favor.

:coolclick: Good points.
I agree...Jones is a shadow of his former self & I repeatedly have said that I wish he'd retire...hell I even said that I would never watch him fight again after the back to back TKO's that came from Jones & Johnson. That was too brutal for me. Roy should suck up his pride & get back to commentating.

Disagree thought that Mayorga or Tito beats Jones.

Re: Wacko's Round by Round of Roy Jones jr vs Tito Trinidad! Happy New Year bwoyo's!
Even an old past his prime Roy Jones Jnr would have beaten a prime Tito.
No offence to Tito fans as he was a great but Roy Jones is (was) something very special indeed. Jones Jnr ranks as one of the top 10 all time greats and tito ranks as one of the greats of a decade if even that.
Would love to see a rematch between bhop and jones after this one as both are way past their primes and would be competitive.

Re: Wacko's Round by Round of Roy Jones jr vs Tito Trinidad! Happy New Year bwoyo's!
Weights are up Jones 169.5 - Trinidad 170
-
Re: Wacko's Round by Round of Roy Jones jr vs Tito Trinidad! Happy New Year bwoy
I spotted the weights on fightnews too....anyone know if there is any pictures circulating of the weigh in yet, and how the two guys looked?
If you're a Brit, Setanta and Fight Network are showing previews of the fight on 427 and 429 on the Sky channels, not sure about the other providers though.
Good to see both guys making the weight, even if they are way above where they started. A part of me is longing to see RJJ turn back the years on the clock, and put in a vintage performance, but the heart says he's just not the fighter he once was, and might struggle to victory as he's done over recent fights.

As for the coverage on Saturday night...I will do me best to be here...but the power is likely to be out on my end with the fact that we have a large snow & ice storm on the way...so if it is...Wacko's gonna be pissed the fwock off!
Anywho...we shall see.

At least ice and snow can be fun once its settled and you can get the sledge out. Down here we just have extremely heavy rain leading to flood warnings and gale force winds. Not fun in the slightest. Anyhow, I'll be hiding my laptop come tomorrow night, as I try and avoid leaving drunken messages that make very little sense on here.

Let me just say this...I love snow...go snowboarding at the drop of a hat...but I live out in the sticks & my cable suffers tremendously...not to mention the fact that me gotdam power goes out sporatically when there's a bit of ice on the lines. This will be the second time in two days that we've had 3-4 inches of snow on the ground...I lost power twice during those 3-4 inches...it sucks.
No cable = no compu = no boxing = freezing & withdrawawl = border line suicide.
;D

Re: Wacko's Round by Round of Roy Jones jr vs Tito Trinidad! Happy New Year bwoyo's!
If you put a gun to my head, I would have to predict a KO by Jones of my favorite fighter ever, the great Felix "Tito" Trinidad. Jones still seems like he has some of that craftiness that he's always had. In addition, he probably still has power, even though I wonder about that since Roy hasn't fought at 170 in years. When you fight Trinidad, if you have power AND craftiness, you will win (see Hopkins and Wright). I beleieve Trinidad still has the power to KO Jones. In fact, Tito looks more muscular than ever and I never have questioned his conditioning. However, it all comes down to who will be affected most by the other's power. If Tito can take Roy's shots (I believe Tito has a great beard despite the knockdowns he has had in the past, most of them of the "flash" variety), then the fight will be a very entertaining one and Trinidad has a chance. But if Tito cannot take Roy's shots, then the fight will not go the distance.

Re: Wacko's Round by Round of Roy Jones jr vs Tito Trinidad! Happy New Year bwoyo's!
One thing ive noticed with Felix is he has a big core, solid strength, look at his neck compared to Jones and his legs, his arms look like nothing but your power dont come from your arm muscles, alot of it comes from the back and legs
Roy is done and will be even more feeble here at this weight, I think he wants a Calzaghe match for all the super middle belts and is testing how strong he is around the weight, he thinks he has the perfect foible in Felix, he sees him as low risk because he hasnt boxed in a while and is smaller but I think he is making a mistake, anyone with class now and power will nail Jones
It was once the other way round, when there was talk of Jones fighting Felix just after Felix beat Joppy his advisers told him to move down and fight Calzaghe to test the lower weight once again ;D
What a joke that sounds now, Calzaghe would have piissed all over the both of em ;D

Jones looks so much better on teh scales . I still question if Tito made weight with all that commotion and moving of the scales etc . Jones said he didnt have to make when Tito failed the 1st tiem and that hed just give away teh extra weight cuz he was confident of kocking him out anyway .
Its increasingly looking like Titos just back for the payday . He doesnt look well trained.. I doubt he can match Jones for skill and this may proove to be as embarrassing as Winky and Hopkins for him . Hope im wrong .
