....I was talking about depression in general not just what Heath Ledger went through and hell saying he was depressed is a stretch as we don't know his mental state before this accidental OD we just know he had trouble sleeping. And no one on this forum is taking this death as a personal loss at least I hope they wouldn't take it personally as I doubt Heath was a good close friend or family to anyone here.

The reports all say he was "disturbed by playing a character with absolutely no empathy" and thats when his sleeping issues started
Occaisionally I do feel bad about a celebrity death, not this one
Brandon Lee was such a ridiculous accident
Kurt Cobain, guy had a weird stomach ailment nobody could diagnose, not to mention living with Courtney Love
Hunter S Thompson broke my heart, but I understood his logic,he'd done all he'd wanted to,and his body was breaking down
I feel bad for his family, but most of us just pop a melatonin, drink a beer and get on with it.Lets face itif the guy was swinging a mid town Manhatten apartment,he could have gone in to Betty Ford for a month.
He could have probably had the Chevy Chase wing cordoned off just for him ;D

I still just think he popped one too many pills. Very easy to do, it's not like a-listers have a hard time getting medication.

Yeah and plus sleeping pills plus pneumonia might be a bad thing.
Kurt Cobaine had obvious mental issues and was a habitual drug user.....aside from his stomach disorder
Sid Vicious was a sad case....he more than likely murdered his girlfriend Nancy but after he got out on bail his MOM bought heroin for him and since his lock up he had lost his tolerance and shot up and it killed him......his mom later offed herself.

The odds that Sid actually did it,are slim and nill
And slim's on the bus
I dont really like or respect Sid,in all honesty, how many well meaning punk kids have snuffed it emulating him?
But I really doubt he did it
Malcolm was looking at the murder as a potential marketing angle, suddenly his property was hot again

Ahh probably the unavoidable loss of family members would be the most depressing thing I could imagine specially if one of my kids went before me.Could loose the home, income you know, it could be hard to stay with positive belifes when you get hit with a physical reality.

Re: Heath Ledger found dead
I don't know the details of this case....
But generally speaking, you don't just pop 1 too many. Things like that can happen, but in that case there would be other complications, like drug-drug interactions. When they do tox studies, they do them on very large doses. So with many drugs, you can take far more than what they say is safe. (I was in drug discovery chemistry for 8+ years). But again, there could have been things to complicate matters in which case, an otherwise safe dose could have proven fatal.
Also, I battled depression for years. A mild case where I was just pissed off a lot. It can be genetic or (and in my case) triggered. My dad died 15 years ago and then stress of school, grad school, job, more grad school, hating my job and not being able to find a new one.... etc. If I wasn't on meds I'd just be pissed off all the time because of life's shitballs. With that said, all the stress and triggers CAN actually lead to low seratonin levels, at which point event-triggered depression can become a chemical imbalance.
This is the kind of shit I did for a living. I actually worked on several seratonin projects.

Re: Heath Ledger found dead
oh yeah. But even I notice a difference when I'm of Zoloft for a couple days.
Take this morning for example. I'm looking for clienst for my new business. Then I find out that pretty much all of my "warm market" are already with the investment firm I represent. Then my mother tells me she's leaving her money in TD.
When you can't get your mother to give you some investments -- to throw you a fucking bone-- well, great way to start. :thumb:

That's horrible news, I liked Heath alot. One of my favorite movies is The Four Feathers; and he was great in that. R.I.P.

Re: Heath Ledger found dead
Over a thousand dead people in Kenya since this fool died, hacked and burned to death for no crime other than being born in the wrong tribe. . . . and we are still going on about this millionaire druggie waster for whom 'life was just too much' (sob sob boo hoo) ::**

sorry X, but i feel the need to quote myself and re-post something that i wrote on page 2 or 3 in response to your post..
dude, no kidding.. we're not fucking weeping and crying and planning a memorial service, relax.. we're just acknowledging his death, and it's sad that a talent like his is no longer with us.. The same way we'd be sad about reading in the paper, or seeing on the news that a father of 5 tragically died by getting into a car accident..
we know people die everyday, and i'd feel the same emptiness towards them.. so what is your point?
statistics of how many people die everyday isn't necessary, honestly.. those were completely necessary when Anna Nicole Smith died though considering it was on every news channel for about 2 weeks.. now THAT was ridiculously carried away..
But your post is that of the obvious and irrelevant to this topic.. If I posted on here that my (hypothetical) brother died, would you come and post "BIG DEAL people die everyday".. i don't think so.. maybe Bilbo, but i'd expect nothing less from him
and furthermore, in Heath's defense, for all they know he could have died of "natural causes" to pneumonia etc.. assuming it was an overdose is unfair just because of the celebrity stereotype..
if it will make you feel better, why don't you make a thread about those people in Kenya, and maybe give us some articles to read about how they die and such, and i'm sure you'll have plenty of people posting their sympathy.
no one in this thread is pouting and crying (eg: "sob sob boo hoo"), everyone pretty much said, "damn that sucks he died" or something to that extent.. ??? relax

Re: Heath Ledger found dead
You make a fair point ..... and i notice that my SC s go up like mad whenever I do this sort of thing (!)
We live in the age of the 'cult of celebrity', which gives great rewards to so-called celebs but also places them under enormous pressure, under which they naturally crack.
I don't mean to get uptight about this, but I can't help getting wired when some Hollywood prick is given sympathy for having a 'hard life' (and I accept your point, it's just the way I'm wired together .... I can't help it)
If your brother died, of course I wouldn't come on and say anything crass like that ..... the point is that we seem to get excited about certain people who we don't know dying, more so than other people we don't know ...... and there are many people I would feel sympathy and sorrow for than some actor guy.
You're right though .... I do need to relax and not get uptight about this. Fair comment. :-[
I will take a chill pill ......................... just not as many as Heath did. ;)

haha.. nah, i understand where you're coming from, because I usually feel this way when this type of thing happens. I just think that this specific celebrity is in a different category because he really wasn't known to be a druggie, and what not. It's not like a Britney or Lindsey Lohan or Paris Hilton etc type of deal.
Anyway, the only reason why your post bothered me is because it's mostly all guys on this board, and the few girls that post are real cool.. so it's not like people are posting "OH MY GOD HE WAS SO BEAUTIFUL I CANT BELIEVE HE'S DEAD.. I CRIED MYSELF TO SLEEP LAST NIGHT".. That's the type of stuff that you hear in the media, and you read on web articles.. I just think everyone here is pretty genuine, and shouldn't really get criticized for their sympathy towards something.. Considering the 'environment', for lack of a better word, I don't think anyone was getting carried away by saying "damn he died, that sucks"..
But man believe me, if this was a different environment I'm 100% with you with the whole "people getting excited when celebrities they don't even know die"..
I think i've said it on here before, but about a year ago I went to see comedian Ron White in Boston, and he said something to the extent of "So i was at the Hard Rock Casino in Florida.. and man, i lost my ass there.... well, so did Anna Nicole" and everyone was ooooo'ing and then he said, c'mon people, we have people fighting in Iraq that die every day, and they're not on the news for a month straight.. in fact they hide that news from the media..
So, believe me, I hear ya man.. CC #553 ;)

Ya have to look at it like the funny side of life bro.
She has her reasons and they wont be about you personally. My folks are the same, much old dogs cant be even bothered about learning new tricks; mine wont even talk about new stuff.
I used to bite and get annoyed at there hard headed ways and they'd feed of that! but now I think its funny, like going to visit two ostriches that only stick their head out the sand if the conversation suits them,so I just go there and have no other thoughts but to see them, talk their talk and flow along ,so theres no more angst. If they throw a curved ball at me it hits the ground flat and I talk about something else. Lifes easier.

My mother-in-law has an amazing ability to get under my skin
No,a legitimate real talent for it
She once was in my kitchen, and asked my now wife if there was any chance of her and her ex-boyfriend getting back together
And to make matters worse, she can never understand why Im mad
"Oh your just being emotional"

Don't get sanctimonious Missy ...... you can see very well that my post was about the amount of attention and emotion being spent on Heath Ledger and then comparing it with a real tragedy happening simultaneously elsewhere.
Your comment is just a little reactonary, and - I have to say -misses the point, whether purposely or in an attempt to be opaque. :-\

my comment is reactionary? to what your ranting for 7 pages ::**
trying to be clever on this issue isn't really working for you. If you want to stand alone in this thread carry on being a dick.
Because someone has expressed concern/shock/surprise over this guys death does not mean people stop caring about 'bigger' issues, however I'm sure for his family and friends it is a big issue and you ranting about some overemotional yanks doesn't make their loss any less.
I'm sure you'll be flying over to form your very on human shield in outrage.

Touched a nerve have we? Just because I have a view that doesn't fall in with your mundane PC meanderings, it doesn't mean that I'm being stupid (no9t for that reason anyway). I admit that I like a good rant, but compared to some on here I am just a beginner!
I don't know where you are from, but I don't recall going on about 'overemotional yanks'? What's that got to do with it? - and bearing in mind the ridiculous outpourings when Cowface Diana died, I don't think we in the UK are in a position to sneer at yanks for being overemotional?
Incidentally, you have missed the entire point of my 'rant' ..... it was about the media and social attention that are given to 'celebrities' rather than to bad things that happen to people we have never heard of. The fact I chose Kenya was just an example, and not the actual point. Trying to specifically insult me about flying out to form a human shield doesn't really work in those circumstances, I don't think anyway.
And why was your first choice of insult to call me a dick ..... have you some deep-seated psychological issue with dicks :detective:

Uuuuuuuuuuuuuhhhhhhhhhhhhhh guys,he's from Australia

Yeah, I think she and I were talking about the reaction to his death from Americans (accepting he is an Australian who lives in LA, like Mel Gibson) rather than thinking Ledger was an American himself.

.....Do I look like I give a shit about Kenya?
All the people that acknowledge Ledger are saying is that he was talented, they remember him in ______ movie and he was awful young.
No one is going to fade into depression over it
These Kenyans you love so much are out of sight out of mind.....I don't feel their pain, I don't see their pain, I am not affected by their pain, and hell the only time I see Kenyans is whenever there is a marathon.....they are usually in the lead

touched a nerve? ::** don't flatter yourself.
I was glad when Diana died and laughed at those wailing idiots on the telly. I didn't however go to my favourite forum and start ranting about it. Btw the bitch messed up the tv schedule for days. She was riding round without a seatbelt, own fault dumbass.
Yanks, because those are the loons you see emailing and ringing in news channels about it. Many people have a fascination for celebs, the media promotes and feeds on that. In the end if dumb people didn't watch/buy celeb programmes & mags they wouldn't exist.
You were using Kenya, that's nice. We're all touched by your concern for your fellow human beings.
Human sheild, well you could throw yourself in front of a machete blade to stop the violence or bring the worlds attention to it. People (i.e government) won't care as there is no gain in it.
Yes, you're a dick, small but trying to act big.

Re: Heath Ledger found dead
I made a thread over at "off topic" just like this one about heath passing away. I really like the guy, his a brilliant actor. I always had respect for actors that can really play old fasion characters. Heath movie Casanova is one of my favorites. His been on many great movies, but his like johnny depp not really into the media life or the popularity celeb bullshyt. its really sad to lose a talented guy like Heath. i was shock and dissapointed, his really one of my favorite actors.

Patrick Bateman: Come on, Bryce. There are a lot more important problems than Sri Lanka to worry about.
Timothy Bryce: Like what?
Patrick Bateman: Well, we have to end apartheid for one. And slow down the nuclear arms race, stop terrorism and world hunger. We have to provide food and shelter for the homeless, and oppose racial discrimination and promote civil rights, while also promoting equal rights for women. We have to encourage a return to traditional moral values. Most importantly, we have to promote general social concern and less materialism in young people.
