Manny Pacquiao vs. Juan Manuel Marquez: Round 1 Knockout Bet Would Pay Big Bucks

Juan Manuel Marquez has never been knocked out in his 52-fight professional boxing career. Aside from a disqualification in his first fight 15 years ago, his only losses have been 12-round decisions. So as Marquez prepares to fight Manny Pacquiao on Saturday, why do I find it tempting to place a little wager on Pacquiao beating Marquez in the first round? Probably because I remember how the first round went when these guys fought four years ago:
That was the first round in which Pacquiao famously knocked Marquez down three times, only to get out-boxed the rest of the night and wind up with a draw. But so dominant was Pacquiao in the first three minutes that some referees would have stopped that fight. And if you think Pacquiao is going to have a similarly dominant first round on Saturday night, you could make big money.
The odds at Bodog say that a $100 bet on Pacquiao to win in the first round pays off at $2,200. Trying to predict the exact round that a fight will end isn't easy, but that strikes me as a fairly good bet. Is it likely to happen? No. But is it so unlikely that you wouldn't bet $100 with a chance to profit by more than $2,000? It's at least worth thinking about.
We'll be providing live, round-by-round updates of Pacquiao-Marquez II on Saturday night.

shyt i think im going to take up that bet.
I saw pacstraight working hard all night while I was fooling around here. Nice work, pareng Pacstraightleft. Julius or anyone, can you explain what's this about having to spreading out reps? I still don't know much about it cuz I'm usually lazy about these things. I just take the shortcut by asking around.
Thanks brod for the info. So it's just like 'spread love and it all comes back to you' type of thing, huh. I was just going to give you one just now but this spreading rep thing came out again, so I guess you'll have to wait. I think I'll give one to Violent D for his bravery. In the meantime you'll just have to do with these:;););)
Nice work with all links...
Some good reads others a bit too biased for me but nonetheless entertaining.

The chances of JMM wining by TKO/KO are fucken slim this is boxing and stranger things have happened so I gotta ask 'What if it happens?'
How will you feel knowing that joking around and trying to comeback at VD actually cameback and bit you in the ass.
Like I said I myself don't think it will happen but then again.....
I remember leading up to Erik-Zahir I was on here rambling and saying that the chances of Zahir beating Erik were the chances of me becoming a World Champ. That the only way Zahir would beat Erik would be if Erik was hand cuffed and Zahir had a bat... :-\
I learned my lesson that stranger things have happened.
(Please acknowledge that by no means Am I comparing fights/fighters and or styles)
Haha, no problem there. Violent D and me have no problem. He's one of the few who understand my jokes, and me - his jokes. We're actually closets lovers (sorry about the squeeling, pal)...
Seriously, about JMM KO possibility - that's improbable but not impossible. He's got the tools to do it. It's just he's not agressive enough - he just doesn't follow up on his power shot even when he's got his opponent. Maybe a wise move on his part, maybe not. But definitely, he's got the tools.
By the way mick, nice work handling us wackooo orphans here. Maybe you and the Bookkeeper can take his place.
I think JMM will lose by decision. he is no longer fast enough to avoid punches like he used so therefore his fantastic counter punching skills are no longer where there should be. Someone in another post said the fight with PAC took something out of him. I totally disagree. He just got old. He is still good enough to last 12 rounds but to win against a fast fighter you have to be fast yourself. JMM has lost a step. PAC by decision.
You don't have to be incredibly fast to beat a fast fighter, timing beats speed and Marquez was never as fast as Pacquiao's hand speed wise so thats not really the major factor here. But Marquez's timing trumped Pacquiao's speed throughout most of the fight and that will be the key in there rematch. Take Judah vs Tszyu for example Judah was much quicker than Tszyu but Tszyu beat Judah with excellent timing of his shots.

Great pics and great links..............it was awsome!
My vote still goes to Pacman on a UD. It's going to be a fight that will be remembered no doubt about that. IF Pac wins with KO fuken brilliant and IF JMM wins with a UD then my CAJONES to him because at that age it's really impressive who would of thought.
I saw a cut on top of JMM forehead on the pic of the weigh-in. Smells like trouble if PAC opens that little beauty up.
Well there are my thoughts in what should be a fantastic night.
CHEERS to all and in which ever boxer is victorious SAT. night congrats and well done!!!!!
Nice pictures and links but, man, does thread hijacking mean anything to you??? You should have started your own thread.
Yeah thats why I think Marquez will win on points and not by K.O cuz hes always been negative . Rocky was there for the taking but he couldnt finish him . The only time Ive seen him open up was vs Barrera and he paid for it seconds later so he wont be doing that again .
Marquez looks in good shape . I still havent seen anything which suggests Pac may pull off an upset .
This is a "sticky" thread. It's a good way for me to post some latest updates on JMM-MP 2 fights. I thought posters here would appreciate it if they're more aware of what's going on.
But yea, I know what's "thread hijacking" means, and that is not my intention here.
Hey guys , i have to ask , What a things are changed from both since the first fight? Is there where is the key for analyze this fight......Can somebody?
One of the difference is $,$$$,$$$.00;D. It's hard for me to be unbiased while answering your question bro. But they're only my opinions, so here it is...
Manny was a one armed fighter when he fought JMM and Morales the first time. He had a left, and that was it. Both JMM and Morales were able to nullify his left, and effectively take him out of the fight. Manny has since learned to throw his right, and you all saw what happened to Morales because of it. On the other hand, JMM has started to trade a lot lately. He's become more aggressive, in an effort to try and gain fans. This opens him up to counters, where before he was the counter puncher. If he carries that new style into his fight with Manny, it's going to be a short night (about a 5th round tko). If he fights like he did in the 1st one, and remains a defensive counter puncher, it should be an interesting fight. Though I tend to lean toward Manny to win by late round stoppage.
I agree, Marquez did give Pacquiao a boxing lesson in their first encounter, but that was because PacMan was fixed on the 1-2 punch. This will be a new fight at a new weight and that might be the difference. Also, Marquez is without doubt a great boxer, but he will choose to go toe to toe at times. Manny is a monster and he doesn't just win fights he devastates his opponents (if they're willing to engage). The only real threat I see for Pac is the fact that he can be too aggressive and he doesn't fight often enough. I just hope this fight is as exciting as we expect it to be, we been waiting a long time for this. I Know I Have.
I think Jmm will stop pac.
he seems to hit harder at 130 and is a much better boxer and smarter.
Here you go, babe.
First of all, pac is much more well-prepared, motivated and significantly more powerful. To add to that, he seems to be 'extremely' confident. Whereas Marquez was at his best when he fought pac and probably hasn't changed that much - which simply means he's still at his best, add or take away 5%.
I think Marquez will be fighting as he did the first time, which was basically to fight from within his shell of defense, countering hard in power combinations everytime pac tried to penetrate his shell. The key this time will be pac's feet. In the last fight pac didn't quite have his feet and he was easily countered because he couldn't get in or out quick enough. But this time it'll be totally different. Watch out how quickly pac will get inside and more importantly how quickly he will get out before he can be effectively countered. He might still be countered and hit at the tail-end of Marquez' punches but that won't affect him that much as the last time when he was squarely hit by Marquez' solid counters. Keep your attention there folks cuz that'll be the key to pac's ultimate KO victory. I think it'll just be a matter of time when Marquez will be caught by pac's power shots and get kd'd. Though he might get up couple of times, I think he'll eventually go down and out. IMO pac is just too powerful for him. But to give credit to Marquez, I think pac shouldn't be careless because Marquez has the power to KO almost anyone at 130 and that includes pac. The only problem with Marquez is that he usually doesn't follow up with his 'KO capable shots' even when he's got his opponent cornered, especially when they're top class ones, probably fearing a do-or-die countering from his 'cornered' opponent and getting himself knocked down instead - which could be a wise move or not depending on the situation. But if I were him, I'd take some chances this time 'cause I think it'll be his only chance. IMO, staying in his shell and trying to counter all day won't work this time 'cause I think it'll just be a matter of time when pac will be penetrating his shell of defense - with devastating effect.
I see this fight ending at around 4th round - or at 7th at the most. I think pac will win even in the unlikely situation of the fight lasting full 12 rounds provided that pac is not kd'd anywhere in the fight. The only chance for Marquez IMO is to KO pac or KD him and win the decision.
Good posting bro.
I think Pac's handspeed are too fast, that his feet can't keep up with them. What I'm saying is his hands and feet are not jiving (sychronizing) everytime he's going for barrage. People tends to believe that he is an ackward fighter because of it.
I strongly doubt that Marquez has the ability to KO Pac. IMO, Marquez already left his KD or KO punch at featherweight because of his age. BTW, he'll be fighting a guy who's well known to be one of the toughest chin in a couple of days;D.
