Re: Woods v Tarver/Dawson v Johnson Light Heavyweight RBR double header
I really wanted Johnson to win but I had it 7 rounds to 5 for Dawson. Tough break for one of boxing's classiest, toughest, hardest working personalities.
Johnson's post fight reaction was touching. Poor guy has been on the wrong side of too many close/bad decisions.

Yeah, I totally sympathise with Johnson coming close yet again, but he's been a world title holder before, and although he's come close so often, and taken bad decisions more than once, you have to judge each fight on its merit, and Johnson didn't do enough to emphatically take the title for me, so I don't deny Dawson hanging on to his title.

Re: Woods v Tarver/Dawson v Johnson Light Heavyweight RBR double header
Woods looking confident as he comes into the ring. Disgraceful that Tarver gets to come in second as champion because he holds the IBO belt. He's NOT a champion of nothing except his ego. That just riled me, come on Clinton, KNOCK THIS CHUMP OUT! That guy has an ego the size of Texas, sadly, he's on the same intellectual level as George Dubya.
Next up its fight time, and I really hope Woods does it now. As if Tarver's bauble is counted as a world title. Someone needs to slap some sense into that boy.
-
Re: Woods v Tarver/Dawson v Johnson Light Heavyweight RBR double header
Fukk Woods. Hopes he gets knocked out
-
Re: Woods v Tarver/Dawson v Johnson Light Heavyweight RBR double header
Both fighters look fairly relaxed in there, and Tarver's also got some ridiculous shadow of a mustache. I've been looking forward to this one since the last big fight, and Tarver looks fairly nervous when it actually comes to the introductions. He also looks quite gaunt in the face , not someone from the bigger divisions. He does however get a big reception from the home fans, and a fair share of boos from the Brits. Woods gets even more boos though, with the English flags flying in the ring to boot. The enthusiastic bell ringer keeps banging away at it.

Re: Woods v Tarver/Dawson v Johnson Light Heavyweight RBR double header
Round 1:
Cagey opening by both guys, with jabs from each being parried. Woods glances a jab with the first landing blow. Straight right lands from Tarver, but a body shot from Woods dug in. Body shot from Tarver, but woods gets another one in. Right hook and body shot from Woods. Left hook from Tarver. Tarver fi nding a rhythm, but takes a jab from Woods. And another. Body shot from Tarver blocked, this is still cagey stuff. Jab from Woods, but a counter left glances off Woods. Straight right from Tarver blocked. Body shot from Woods as Tarver falls short.
Close round, probably edged by Tarver.
10-9

Re: Woods v Tarver/Dawson v Johnson Light Heavyweight RBR double header
Round 2:

Body shot from Woods. Tarver lands a jab. Jab and hook again from Woods. Jab lands again, and Tarver doesn't like the corners. Tarver throwing token hooks all blocked. Body shot from Woods. Tarver lands to the body, no venom on it though.Huge right to the body from Woods, and Tarver buckels into a clinch. Tarver with a straight left. Body shot from Woods again. Jab and right hook, but Woods to the body again. Two more to the body, and tarver with an uppercut and a hook in the last few seconds.
Woods dominated that one.

Body shot from Woods, and a left hook, and Tarver ducks into a clinch. Short right, after a Tarver flurry finds the guard. Jab and right uppercut, then two body shots from Woods.
Quiet round, neither man really doing enough to claim it.

Round 4:
Jab and straight right from Woods. Body shot lands too, and Tarver is circling. Good right hook lands, then blocks a left from Tarver. Woods to the body again, then a fine jab. Flurry from Tarver blocked, then Woods to the body. Tarver glances Woods with an uppercut. Two body shots from Woods and Tarver backs off. Tarver with an uppercut, but takes two body shots in return. Tarver lands a jab, but Woods digs to the body.
I though Woods edged it, with Tarver all razzle and little dazzle so far.

Re: Woods v Tarver/Dawson v Johnson Light Heavyweight RBR double header
Tarver is grabbing on alot at the minute, but looks a little more effective than Woods. Clinton needs to pick up the pace a bit really.
-
Re: Woods v Tarver/Dawson v Johnson Light Heavyweight RBR double header
Round 5:
Not a great spectacle so far. Tarver lands a jab, and an uppercut as Woods comes forward. Woods takes two body shots, and lands an uppercut. Good jab from Woods. Jab and uppercut from Tarver. Good right hook catches Woods coming in. Body shot and an uppercut from Woods, but Tarver with a left uppercut. Rigth to the body from Tarver. Tarver is holding Woods off, and is warned. Body shot from Tarver. Two body shots and a right from Woods. Nice right hook from Tarver. Good right hand from Tarver, but a body shot stops Tarver in his tracks. Tarver showboating.Uppercut from Tarver, but Woods digging away to the body often. Tarver with a body shot, looking flash, but not packing much punch it would appear.
Tarver ties it up.

Re: Woods v Tarver/Dawson v Johnson Light Heavyweight RBR double header
Woods is garbage. Tarver is shot
-
Re: Woods v Tarver/Dawson v Johnson Light Heavyweight RBR double header
Interesting Rhun, I have it 4-0 for Tarver. Woods has seemed to me to be off balance and out of rhythm all night. He needs to work a jab but no signs of any such thing.
Now 5 rounds to 0 imo.
-
Re: Woods v Tarver/Dawson v Johnson Light Heavyweight RBR double header
Round 6:
Woods read the riot act in his corner. Two body shots from Woods as Tarver finds himself in the corner. Good left hook from Woods. Body shot from Woods, and Tarver excaping the corners well. Jab from Tarver, and a second. Tarver is hoping to bore the title from Woods. Left hook from Tarver. Body shot from Tarver. Two body shots from Woods, but a stunning uppercut glances Woods again. Tarver with jabs and the uppercut. Woods to the body, but Tarver slips away. Right hook for Woods.

Two more hooks blocked, before Woods returns to the body. Woods with two more body shots, and Tarver looking scrappy.
Woods' round.
67-67
I really don't see what Tarver is doing to warrant a healthy lead Amat. He's not working much, he's falling short with punches and finding Woods' guard constantly.

I got it the same

Re: Woods v Tarver/Dawson v Johnson Light Heavyweight RBR double header
Clinton is moving in without throwing punches, he has been for 7 rounds, he can't be to terrified of Tarver's jab I don't see what the problem is, certainly he needs to start punching. That would be a start.
-
Re: Woods v Tarver/Dawson v Johnson Light Heavyweight RBR double header
Round 8:
Jab and straight left from Tarver. Body shot lands, and Woods is looking tired now. Body shot and a jab from Woods. Jab and right hook from Woods. Good uppercut from Tarver. Jab and body shot from Tarver. Two body shots from Woods. Left to the body from Tarver.Left hook and a right from Woods, then to the body. Woods ploughing forward with hooks. Right hook from Woods. Tarver did do more that round.77-76.
I may as well just walk away, cause I am not watching the same fight as everyone else. :p
-
Re: Woods v Tarver/Dawson v Johnson Light Heavyweight RBR double header
Woods has been absolutely pathetic. How on earth has he ever believed he has the tools to beat Calzaghe???? Tarver is a crock which is what is making woods look even worse. Tarver is throwing flurries that aren't landing and has awful balance.

Just don't see Woods doing anything and in a fight with a relatively low number of clean punches, Tarver seems to be landing them all. Last round was closer, still think Tarver edged it. Needs to force more.

Tarver's. 87-85.

Re: Woods v Tarver/Dawson v Johnson Light Heavyweight RBR double header
i agree, i'm frankly annoyed at how woods is performing, tarver is just swinging anything, and he's leaving so many openings, and he hasn't capitalized. i dont think i've ever been so annoyed about a match in my entire life. it's already rd 10, i dont think he could come back. man he'll regret this fight.
-
Re: Woods v Tarver/Dawson v Johnson Light Heavyweight RBR double header
Round 10:
Tarver with a body shot, returned by Woods. Two body shots from Woods. Jab and right hook from Woods. Another pair of body shots. Tarver did well right at the end, landing enough good shots to rattle the cage.

Re: Woods v Tarver/Dawson v Johnson Light Heavyweight RBR double header
Round 11:
Tarver still pawing away with the jab. Body shot from Woods, and a great right hook from Woods. Jab and short hook from Tarver. Body shot from Tarver. Good straight left from Tarver, but Woods digs in a right as Tarver ducks. Tarver with a jab, and a big left hand from Tarver. Woods taking a left uppercut, and a hook. Woods coming back with a right hook, and a big right again. He's charging forwards, with a body shot, and a right hook and Tarver ties it up. Tarver jabbing away again. Good right hand from Tarver.Rgith to the body by Woods.
Good flurry from Woods, but he's tired badly in the second half.

As disappointed as I am for Clinton it's always nice when fat fuck Bunce gets it completely wrong.
-
Re: Woods v Tarver/Dawson v Johnson Light Heavyweight RBR double header
Round 12:
Woods afrer a KO. Tarver jabs and a big left hook. Body shots from Tarver. Tarver teeing off now, good jab and another left. Straight left on the chin of Woods. Good jab and a left hook. Woods tries a body shot. Woods just wants the end now. Jab and a hook from Tarver. Right hook from Tarver, as Clinton covers up. Body shot from Woods, but another left hook lands. Left hook from Woods, but no bingo punch coming. Left hook and Woods stumbles back. Tarver to the body. Woods with a hook then clinches. Body shot from Woods, and they clinch again. Woods dejected. Tarver delighted.
117-112, on my British favoured (apparently) card. Woods was heading for a KO in the last if it went on much longer.
-
Re: Woods v Tarver/Dawson v Johnson Light Heavyweight RBR double header
The scores on the doors are as follows:
UD 116-112, 117-111, 119-109 all for Antonio Tarver. And it was the British judge who gave the biggest margin.
-
Re: Woods v Tarver/Dawson v Johnson Light Heavyweight RBR double header
A bit disappointed with Clinton on that performance where was the big work rate and volume of punches?
-
Re: Woods v Tarver/Dawson v Johnson Light Heavyweight RBR double header
Sad to hear Clinton lost as ive met and talked to the guy and hes a class act but it was kinda expected....
wonder where this leaves fight academy now ?
anyhoooo good luck Clinton whatever your future ;)
-
Re: Woods v Tarver/Dawson v Johnson Light Heavyweight RBR double header
Sad to hear but sounds like he was outclassed. He won't get his Calzaghe fight now. This has been a crap start to the year for brits in big fights. Doesn't bode well for Joe. Here's hoping he can turn the tide.
-
Re: Woods v Tarver/Dawson v Johnson Light Heavyweight RBR double header
I think both Woods and Hatton have got exposed as the rather limited fighters they are in recent months.
Tarver's post fight speech was hilarious, he makes me chuckle at least.
Woods sounded like Peter Manfredo, with his 'thankyou for having me' losers speech. Very nice guy I've got nothing but respect for him but he showed like he said that he was just a skinny boy from Sheffield.
Tarver meanwhile looked as good as I've seen him in years.
Great performance he got it completely right.
Right now to me he looks like the man to beat in the division.

Smart judge. Woods is a B fighter. Always has been. By alrights he should be 0-3 against Johnson.

Re: Woods v Tarver/Dawson v Johnson Light Heavyweight RBR double header
I disapointing performance from Woods. Tarver was better than I thought he would be, but Woods just couldnt unload. Just wasnt throwing enough punches and just taking punches on the guard for too much of each round.
Johnson deserved the nod against Dawson. He came on strong and hurt Dawson a couple of times. A rematch is needed.

I agree that the number of brits holding World titles hasn't exactly flourished this year so far, and VD is loving it. Loving it like a big mac advert. Calzaghe and Haye will probably be vacating the titles in their respective divisions, leaving very few left:
Joe Calzaghe ???
Clinton Woods
David Haye ???
Enzo Maccarinelli
Junior Witter
Gavin Rees
By the end of May, we could feasibly have NO world champions if Witter's beaten, and Joe and Haye vacate. Adieu the brief golden age.

Don't worry Rhun I'm sure Enzo and Hatton will get their belts back. And Carl Froch and Amir Khan will be world champs by 2009
-
Re: Woods v Tarver/Dawson v Johnson Light Heavyweight RBR double header
Well if Joe wins then he'll have the most important title of them all and that's the Ring title and universal recognition as the 175 lb champ. I think Enzo will be able to have some success at cruiserweight without David Haye though I'm not sure how much. And of course, David Haye is going to make a lot of noise at heavyweight.
