Yeah, but unfortunately, the Cavs haven't been able to win in Boston during this series, so the odds are not looking to good for us.

Re: Friday Night Fights Buffet
Nasty dislocated shoulder...I really thought Byrd was gonna look good at this weight, just too much too soon I guess...still no power, and speed is definately not LHW level.

Re: Friday Night Fights Buffet
That was a very good first fight. Nice effort from Gordon that was a great story behind that fight. Gordon was looking on Boxrec for fighters without an opponent, shot an email to his promoter and 10 minutes later he had the fight. Very brave effort good fight I love those prospect match ups they never fail to be bad. Nothing better then two hungry fighters going at it.
As for Johnston, I remember going to the Denver airport and they had a huge banner of him advertising some fight I forget what it was. I just thought it was odd because well, it's not everyday you see a giant blown up image of Stevie Johnston of all people.
Byrd, well not much needs to be said. I think he had the wrong strategy in attacking like Lyle said but honestly it doesn't matter he is shot to bits. Good on to him for making the effort. He's a smart guy, I'm sure he'll hang it up.
Jay Nady is just bizarre.

Chris Byrd:Ex-champ punished in lightheavy bout...+ even more shocking news...
After dropping 40 pounds, former heavyweight champion Chris Byrd (40-5-1, 21 KOs) looked drained and slow as he was brutally kayoed in round nine by Shaun George (17-2-2, 8 KOs) in a light heavyweight bout on Friday night at the Cox Pavilion, which is connected to the Thomas & Mack Center in Las Vegas. Coming into the fight at 174 lbs., Byrd was dropped by George in round one and rocked again in round two. It was a sign of things to come as George pretty much hammered Byrd with his right hand at will, finally flooring Byrd twice in the ninth. Byrd beat the count after the first knockdown, but was then battered down again and the bout was waved off by referee Jay Nady at 2:45. At the time of the stoppage, George was ahead 79-72 on all cards. The result was a bitter disappointment for Byrd, who had hoped to make some noise in the 175lb division. The 37-year-old has now lost three of his last four. He left the ring without commenting on the possibility of retirement.
Byrd passes out, hospitalized!

Tracey promises he won't fight again
In a scary moment, an unconscious former heavyweight champion Chris Byrd was rushed to a Las Vegas hospital Friday night shortly after his shocking KO loss to Shaun George. Byrd reportedly became unresponsive when a combination of valium and morphine were administered in his dressing room to relieve pain from a dislocated shoulder. Happily he was later revived and released. It appears, however, that the loss to George may have been the 37-year-old Byrd's last fight. "I'm not letting him fight anymore," Byrd's wife Tracey told fight scribe Tim Smith. And should Byrd have any notion of fighting again, Tracey warned, "He would have to try to do it without my support, and I don't think he wants to do that!"

Thought he would do better...now its really time to hang the gloves up for Byrd...

Re: Chris Byrd:Ex-heavy champ punished in lightheavy bout...
gutted for him, thats it for sure.
-
Re: Chris Byrd:Ex-heavy champ punished in lightheavy bout...
Ye ssometimes vast weight loss can make a fighter CHINNY , we all know Chris has taken much harder punches as HW but now i think Father Time has caught up with him. I have wondered how GREAT a LHW champion he may have been , had he chosen to fight there from the very start of his Career.
-
Re: Chris Byrd:Ex-heavy champ punished in lightheavy bout...
Thats a real shame for Byrd. He should hang them up, he has had a remarkable career at heavyweight considering his size. No point in continuing after this.
-
Re: Chris Byrd:Ex-heavy champ punished in lightheavy bout...
I never liked Chris Byrd as a heavyweight. Now, as a light-heavy, I just feel sorry for him. He looked like he had lost even more than the 40 pounds he lost to move down. His skinny legs looked like they belonged on a middleweight.
He needs to retire already, before he gets permanently injured.
-
Re: Chris Byrd:Ex-heavy champ punished in lightheavy bout...
He's got nothing else to prove, unless it's something he needs to prove to himself.
I still can't believe he got up after the shot Ike landed on him - I would've been in the hospital for a week after that one.
-
Re: Chris Byrd:Ex-heavy champ punished in lightheavy bout...
It was painful to watch him last night. I was dead wrong and thought he would be able to do something at LHW. He looked totally shot and clueless about how to fight a guy who is naturally smaller. At this point, he's too slow to sit back and try to counter punch decent LHW, and that's basically his whole game. The tried to fight like he did against slow 240lb guys and looked foolish.
Time to hang em up, Chris.
-
Re: Chris Byrd:Ex-heavy champ punished in lightheavy bout...
thats a real shame, he was a decent heavy champ, a good person, always did his best......... for it to end like that after all the work that would have gone into making 175 is somewhat sad, real shame his carrer may be over on such a note
-
Re: Chris Byrd:Ex-heavy champ punished in lightheavy bout...
It was a bit sad to see him like that and I've never even been a fan. But he always was willing to fight anybody and that has to be respected.
Legs were totally shot. Totally, could see it in the first round. Gotta be it for him, he shouldn't be allowed to fight anymore.
-
Re: Chris Byrd:Ex-heavy champ punished in lightheavy bout...
He didn't look good at all last night. He contributed enough to the boxing world, and I think he should call it quit.
-
Re: Friday Night Fights Buffet
Stevie Johnston is still fighting? I'm not sure I wanna watch that, I always liked Stevie.
Provodnikov needs a jab, Legion beat me to that. He just pushes it out, he's gonna get fucked up with counter rights unless he sorts that out. Good fight though, enjoyed it more than any ESPN 2 undercard fight in a while. Gordon just needs to run, he wore out quickly.
Gogoladze's usually such a boring jab and run fighter. I guess I see why.
I actually did feel a bit bad for Byrd. Shot to pieces, don't think strategy matters much when you're legs are that shot.

That Korean dude got lucky. :)
