Do you agree????
ye thts quite a gd list
cheers ;)
I assume your comments are tongue-in-cheek. If some of Rocky's fights were fixed, his opponents needed to get paid way more than they did based on the beatings he handed out.Quote:

no. that is off.Quote:

who did he beat to be that high? he fought in the weakest era possible.
style wise he wasnt that good.
lol ok - so you don't agree with 1 person, does that make the rest of the list bad????
that was just for starters.Quote:

you obviously dont read my posts. hell if my favortie fighters has flaws i will point them out. do you see anyone else do this? if i explain to someone how a certain fighter will win and they jump on the bandwagon and say something why the same fighter would win that is incorrect i will tell them.Quote:

even though i like mike, going by accomplishments he shouldnt be that high. holyfield and holmes should be higher.
yeh i don't read all of your posts lol. so my list wasn't all that bad really, you have to admit that i picked some quality fighters even if they were not parrallel to your opinions.
i will give you thatQuote:

and holyfield and holmes that low?
ok, personally i think that holmes and holyfield are a tad overrated but not so overrated that they don't get onto my list.
and as for putting marciano ahead of louis, well i can tell why this is controvertial (spelt wrong probs) but he was undefeated and did beat louis. i do realise that louis was well past it when he lost that fight though.
i think in hindsight i would put them in a joint position because louis did dominate the division all through the 40s.
sorry im taking time to reply i was eating :)
holmes held the belt for 7 1/2 yearsQuote:

louis held the belt for nearly 12 years.
yes because being undefeated is very impressive - come on even you can admit that.
and holmes was playing nobodys like spinks in the 80s, and he was only one in that division who had the talent to keep a title.
.....that was until tyson bursted onto the scene in the late 80s by beating him.
also i dont think that holyfield was fighting at the standard ali was fighting in the 70s.
post back :)
it is impressive, but they were worse then the guys holmes beat.Quote:

holmes was old as shat when he lost to tyson.
holyfield beat a lot of top fighters. and yes this discussion is about him as a heavyweight but he was able to beat top fighters at cruiser too.
well anyway there are my reasons for putting holmes and holyfield that low. but yeh i admit the marciano position is controversial, but i am sure many boxing experts could agree with putting marciano at the top end of the list.
so why is walcott that high?Quote:

look up an experts list and tell me where they ranked the fighters. you can find them on the net. I know, I just want you to find a real expert and tell me where he is ranked as #2.
ok will do. i like jersey joe walcott he was a good tactical fighter. what would be your top 15?:)
and im not making any excuses but my boxing knowledge aint bad for a 15 yr old
well im only 18 and when i was 15 i knew more than you do. but i will give you that you do know a lot for a 15 year old.Quote:

I can only really do from the 1940 ish onwards as I just can't judge before that. Other than stats and the odd highlight, I just don't know enough about people like Jack Johnson.
I've based it not on records, but on absolute prime and how they would have faired when at their very best. E.g- Holyfield beat Tyson twice, but still wasn't better than him on his best day.
Many will probably disagree with a few, but I think that on his best day, Tyson would murder anyone. As much as I dislike him, a Vitali on his very best day would have been tough for any of the greats.
Marciano wa sprobably the only one who swayed me to put him in there on merit. I've seen less of his fights than anyone elses.
ELkabong I agree with everyone except Riddick Bowe who should stay right where he is but if Sonny wasn't in Jail and punching out cops he might have had the title sooner. Sonny never saw a jail he didn't like. Nice thread keep them coming.

Hard to argue too much with your first nine...while there would be some debate, no one would fault you for listing those nine.
Bowe, however, doesn't even make the top twenty -- IMHO. Off the top of my head, people who definitely belong over Bowe include Gene Tunney (who is one of only three heavies, I think, to beat everyone he faced -- Marciano and Lennox Lewis were the others), Vitali Klitschko and probably Wladimir Klitschko -- assuming he doesn't lose any more fights by the end of his career. The Klitschko bros. are the Larry Holmes of their day. They won't garner the respect they deserve until they retire.
Just my opinion, take it or leave it. Fun stuff.
1 tyson
2 ali
3 foreman
4 marciano
5 cooper
6 louis
7 holmes
8 lewis
9 holyfield
10 dempsey
The iron was the greatest heavy weight if not for those ear biting he made.
