Re: Is Hatton-Malignaggi fight already signed?
Not sure if it's been posted already in this thread. This is from the BBC website yesterday:
Hatton targeting Pacquiao finale
Ricky Hatton says he will fight twice more before retiring from the sport.
Hatton will fight Paulie Malignaggi later this year in Las Vegas for the IBO and IBF light-welterweight title.
The Manchester boxer, 29, then plans to end his career against Filipino great Manny Pacquiao or Mexican Oscar de la Hoya at Wembley next year.
"I don't want to go on forever and would have done everything I dreamed off, so two more fights and then I think I'm done," Hatton told BBC Sport.
Hatton confirmed that his fight against American Malignaggi would be in Las Vegas, the scene of his only defeat, against Floyd Mayweather in December.
"I'll fight Paulie Malignaggi in November in Las Vegas again, so I'll be able to take my wonderful fans over there again and if I win that, then it'll be my eighth world title," he said.
A showdown with Pacquiao, who claimed the WBC lightweight title with victory over David Diaz on Saturday, would pit two of the most popular boxers in the sport against each other.
Both Hatton and Pacquiao have a huge following and the fight, which the 'Hitman' hopes to hold in front of 100,000 fans in Britain, would prove a fitting finale to his career.
"In the New Year I'm hoping to fight either Manny Pacquiao or Oscar de la Hoya at Wembley Stadium in front of 100,000 people and after that I'll probably retire," added Hatton.
Re: Is Hatton-Malignaggi fight already signed?
Boxing fans wanted the Hatton-PAC fight to happen in November but unfortunately it will not materialize due to one or more of the following reasons:
1. Team Hatton wants the fight next year (2009)
2. Paulie won't step aside
3. Hatton-Paulie is already signed
4. Hatton wants to honor his words to give Paulie a shot in November
5. Boxing politics (whatever that means)
So the fight won't happen mainly due to Team Hatton or Team Paulie's decisions.

- Pac beat Diaz
- A Pac v Ricky fight came to the fore
- Both Arum and Ray Hatton come out and say this is a fight for 2009, with Pac being lined up for Valero and Ricky sticking to his original plan.
- Ricky is now 'running scared' from Pac because he's not fighting him instead of Paulie and people are neglecting Pac has his own agenda.
It's funny really ;D
Who on this forum has said Hatton is running from Pacquiao ?? i never said that neither did Fenster to my knowledge.

I just leave this thread with PAC's comments regarding a Hatton fight;
"If I'm made to choose for an opponent, I want Hatton first and then Valero."
"Regarding Hatton, I really like that fight eversince, it's a real fight, a brawl, a punch out. It's going to be a beautiful fight, really beautiful and he's also strong so I need at least 3 months training."
signing fights like this is always a potential minefield for lawyers and representatives of the fighters in order to get the contracts absoloutley complete.
Hatton knows he is fighting powderpuff next and has said as much plenty of times.
thats good enough for me to believe its happening

Saddoboxer was insinuating it from the start of the thread, Ice.
It does seem some people got the wrong end of the stick concerning the little debate (powderpuff/Pac bigger win) we were involved in. It clearly (well clearly not for some ;)) had nothing to do with whom Hatton fights next.
Not to worry ;)

Yep I said this "I tend to believe somebody in Hatton's camp is afraid of the PACMAN" earlier on the thread since it's not clear to me why the Hatton-PAC fight can't be made in November this year.
So far these are the reasons why:
1. Team Hatton wants the fight next year (2009)
2. Paulie won't step aside
3. Hatton-Paulie is already signed
4. Hatton wants to honor his words to give Paulie a shot in November
5. Boxing politics (whatever that means)
Re: Is Hatton-Malignaggi fight already signed?
Hatton vs Paulie is signed. It has been signed since before there double header. If pac wants to fight Hatton, they have to come up with some step-a-side money for Paulie or else he has a breach of contract suit against Hatton.

Well my man if you would have looked closer on page 1 post 12 of this thread Markus clearly stated that but you decided to go on about it.

Yep Markus earlier pointed out that it's signed already but others also said it was not. As a fan, I'm frustrated that this fight will not happen in November that's why I did go on to find more reasons why it can't happen to dampen my frustration.
Team PAC publicly and openly calling out this fight for November but unfortunately it will not materialize... what a bummer...

You seem to be conveniently ignoring Bob Arum saying - "it is LUDICROUS to expect Pac-Hatton THIS YEAR."
He obviously is set on Pac-Valero for November.
Plus, again... there's a possibilty of Hatton-Pac taking place in an outdoor stadium. Outdoor fights have to be summertime-ish. Summertime is not November. November is football time (occupied venue) - and freezy bollocks time.

Good point. As a promoter, it's Arum job to seal PAC's next fight but definitely PAC has a say on it.
UK should be the best venue to a Hatton-PAC fight but it's not the only venue. They can hold it in Las Vegas or Manila.

My bet would be it will happen in Vegas.
But when a fight has the potential to draw 100,000 punters, and earn everyone involved ridiculously huge amounts of dough - it's not something they are going to rush before getting it spot on ;)

Both camps has business decisions (or boxing politics) to make, I respect that. But I'm really overly frustrated why this fight can't happen in November. Maybe it's just me....

Hattons main reason for taking this fight over everything else was his dream to finally fight at madison square garden.
As a hatton fan and as someone who is saving like mad so he can get over to the garden later this year i would be pissed off if they went and announced it at the mgm or thomas and mack!!

Business wise the fight between Hatton (the no. 1 jr. welterweight) and Pacquiao (the no. 1 P4P and no. 1 lightweight) should either be in Vegas or UK or Manila.
There's a thread here announcing the confirmation of Hatton-Paulie fight to take place in Vegas on November 22. So much about dreams...
