Re: PACMAN's Training Camp

Los Angeles, CA: As per schedule, Filipino spitfire Manny Pacquiao started his sparring sessions this afternoon at the Wildcard Gym.
Pacquiao, wearing his favorite white with red trim Nike shoes and shorts, and his custom made green colored gloves, matching groin and head protector, and a handsome brownish red T-shirt, climbed the ring at the Wildcard Gym on schedule, just before 1:30PM.
Waiting for him on the ring is super welterweight Rashad Holloway (9-1-0, 5KOs), the 5’10 fighter hired by Freddie Roach to mimic the Golden Boy and give Pacquiao a hard work out.
The sparring session was slow in the beginning with Pacquiao seemingly trying to adjust to the height and the longer reach of Holloway. Pacquiao seemed content in measuring the distance before he threw his jabs.
In a short while, Pacquiao adjusted nicely and the spirited exchange of punches begun. Pacquiao would move in, tag his opponent on the head and face and move out to avoid the counter shots coming his way. The punches that he can not avoid were blocked by his gloves. Some however, got through and Pacquiao took them in stride.
Some of those that got through appeared to be power shots and they did not seem to bother the Pacman. Although, they may not be as strong as those expected to be delivered by de la Hoya, it seem that Pacquiao has the capacity to take and absorb blows from super welterweight.
After the sparring, Halloway was quoted as saying that the Pacman “is too fast and very strong. I felt those body shots.”
..... http://philboxing.com/news/pix/pac.s...14.04.330w.jpg .....
As usual, only a select few people were allowed in the gym. The only noteworthy media people there were the crew from ESPN and Philboxing.
It is perhaps the presence of ESPN that kind of limited what Pacquiao showed in terms of technique and it does not take an Einstein to figure out why.
At the end of the session, members of Team Pacquiao appeared elated, particularly Buboy Fernandez. “Happy ako sa pinakita ni Boss, kahit first day pa lang (I am happy with what the boss showed today, even if it's only the first day)," he said.
Pacquiao indeed had a good first sparring day. But, that in a way was expected.

Re: PACMAN's Training Camp
I am having a hard time with this one
on one hand
Pacquaio is p4p #1, and he did weigh in at 148 for a lightweight fight which tells me, he is probably in the Mayweather size category
But on the other hand
He isn't a defensive genius like Mayweather, and the size factor plays a bigger role because of that fact.
Like I said at the begining for Pacquaio to put on 13 pounds for his lightweight fight, he must walk around at about 160, which means he should be fine to fight at 148. I mean Henry Armstrong beat an old legend at 147 when he was still fighting at featherweight. I am not trying to compare Pacquaio to the second best fighter in the history of the sport, but there are a lot of similarities between the two, scintillating work rates, and speed, fearless, Pacquaio has more power, but Henry threw more punches.

And Marquez twice .
I was reading some comments on YouTube and around the internet and man! The more I hear Pac fans say that PAC is the greatest ever in boxing history and how it proves that the Phillipines is better than Mexico for boxing (Hhhmph! Interesting, one boxer over a long list of Mexican champions through history), how PAC will completely annihilate ODLH, etc. The more I hear/read, the more I want to see this fight.
-
Re: PACMAN's Training Camp
I only consider size as the only factor heavily favoring Hoya... All other factors favors PAC...
PAC is not a defensive master but I think Hoya will not be quick enough to land his more meaningful punches...
This will boil down to who is better prepared or best trained for the fight... A proper assessment could be made after the training period or just days before the fight... ;)

The worst places to hear from Pacfans are the YouTube videos featuring him in it. I've seen some of those comments too and apparently if GOD fought Pacquiao it would be a close one. But in all honesty, I wish people would just look at Pacquiao himself and attempt (and I mean wholeheartedly attempt) to block his fanatics out of their opinion of him.

Sparmate admits 'feeling Pacquiao body punches'
Team Pacquiao hopes Oscar de la Hoya will share the same sentiments Rashad Holloway had Tuesday.
Manny Pacquiao engaged Holloway, a natural light-middleweight campaigner who supposedly poses the same style and build as the Golden Boy, in his first sparring session in preparation for the Dream Match on December 6.
Holloway's comments after the tune-up at the Wild Card Gym in Hollywood should raise some eyebrows at de la Hoya's camp.
"[Manny] is too fast and very strong. I felt those body shots," Holloway, who has sparred with the likes of reigning world welterweight (147lb) champion Antonio Margarito and former world light-middleweight (154lb) king Sergio Mora, said in a report that appeared on Philboxing.com.
Hefty sparmates like Holloway were brought in by trainer Freddie Roach to simulate a de la Hoya-type opponent.
"I got six talls guys with good left hands, good left hooks to spar with Manny. I got six guys who are close to Oscar as they can get. They're bigger and stronger just like they say Oscar is," Roach said.
Buboy Fernandez, Pacquiao's confidante and Filipino trainer, liked what he saw.
"I'm happy with what he showed. And this is just the first day [of sparring]," Fernandez said. -
