I never noticed it, but those boxing nicknames sounds like porno names.;)

Wlad trying to one up his brother, oh he's Ironfist eh? I'll be Steelhammer steel is harder than Iron. Now Vitali has to be called titaniumfist, then Wlad will go for Adamantiumhammer. :D

It looked to me like Vitali was berating Solis for quitting/taking a dive and Wlad was just trying to remove him from the situation.
Definitely.
I feel that the injury would have been avoided had Solis been in shape, or at least it would have had less chance of happening. His balance was awful and I have serious question marks over his chin too. Does anyone know what the injury was yet? The way he held his leg looked like cruciate ligament damage but then he walked from the ring so i doubt it could have been.
-
Okay let me say that I am not a fan of either one of these guys. But that was clearly an injury and not a ko caused by a glancing blow at best. I have to say that I honestly hope that Solis can use this as a learning experiene whether or not his lack of conditioning caused the injury or not. This was my first time seeing him and I like the little bit of skill set he had time to display. I hope this fight embarasses him so much that he trains in a matter in which fitness becomes a lifestyle and not a prerequisite to not be criticized.
-
Clearly a knee injury IMO, Despite what Lyle thinks Solis was edging that round for me. Vitali did the stalking but Solis countered well on the back foot.
I'd actually feel sorry for Solis if he didn't turn up so out of shape. With the exception of Foreman, NO HW boxer deserves ANY success when they turn up looking like that. Totally inexcusable

Totally, Solis was winning the round and then twisted his knee quite nastily. Vitali landed nothing that hurt Solis IMO. There is no arguing with it as if you can't get up then you are TKO'd, but I would still like to see a rematch a year later. It was VERY clearly a leg injury that stopped the fight and nothing more.
It was just one of them freak incidents that we get every now and then.

looked to me as if solis wanted a way out.

i didnt say he was taking a beating adam , i just didnt like the way he looked , stage fright , if he is badly hurt his leg then i am happy he couldnt continue.
If he hasnt then it shows he was looking for a way out.
Just feels a bit strange.
And yes he needs to do much more swimming.

Re: Vitali Klitschko 249.5 - Odlanier Solis 246.9
That fight did no favours for heavyweight boxing at all.
Solis big night and had a chance to win and he didnt bother to get in peak condition deserves everything he gets imo.
-
Re: Vitali Klitschko 249.5 - Odlanier Solis 246.9
Solis can blame his knee but he knows that its his own fault for not getting in shape. Those feaks accidents dont happen very often to conditoned fighters. He was just too fat and his knee couldnt support him.
Even had he come in weighing 220 he still wouldnt have been good enough anyeway. The first semi decent punch he had to absorb hurt him and scrambled his senses. No way could he have absorvbed another even if he did beat the count. He just wasnt good enough to survive a round with a 40 year old. Vitali goes on still chasing a defining fight as nobody so far has been able to provide a challenge. What I will say about Vitali though is this is another time where he has reacted poorly after the final bell. Remember after Lewis and his unprofessional conduct. Remember when his bro got sparked by Sanders and then yesterday he was shouting at a fallen opponent. Not classy. The only time Ive seen him behave was when Byrd made him quit on his stool which humbled him abit.

Re: Vitali Klitschko 249.5 - Odlanier Solis 246.9
Knee injuries, weight catches up to people eventually, it's clearly a sign that he SHOULD be weighing less if he's gonna do this for a living. His knee wouldn't give out so easily if all that extra weight wasn't on it. Solis had the right game plan, had the speed, and was doing well but that weight came back to bite him. He's too top heavy. He's like I am when I'm out of shape, I'm top heavy as well, whenever I was overweight and I tried to play basketball I always came home and my knees are in a lot of pain or I always seemed to tweak them when I'm out there and at 23 years old the LAST thing my knees should be is in pain after a game of basketball. When I lost weight(thanks to p90x shameless plug) when I go out there it doesn't seem so bad. Because my weight is pretty much at where it should be and it isn't putting extra pressure on my knees. If you don't treat your body right, it will hurt you. Solis is too top heavy with that kind of pressure on his knees, he is about 20 pounds away from where he needs to be, maybe more even. But in this time off and rehabbing he should use it as an opportunity to get in much better shape before he shoots his knees to crap over his negligence and lack of physical discipline.

The only way it would have been any more embarassing for the sport is if Solis had came in as he did and won.
The fact that he came in looking so unconditioned and suffered an injury that a 25 year old should not suffer is a joke in itself... But at least it shows that you can't show up looking like that in this sport and be serious

Re: Vitali Klitschko 249.5 - Odlanier Solis 246.9
Funny thing is that he weighed less for this fight than he has for his last 8 fights!

I agree, Al. In a way, it looked like a dive. Solis wasn't in a ton of pain after the fight and he wasn't seeking medical attention. Maybe it was an injury he got in training and he went through with the fight anyway to secure the pay check.
-
Re: Vitali Klitschko 249.5 - Odlanier Solis 246.9
I think that is quite possible, I was thinking myself that he might already be injured. If he knows he'll get a rematch maybe he landed a few punches. Found what he needed to know, and decided to take a dive, and come back thinner and stronger another day.

Oh fuck off, Vitali acted like anyone else would have. Boxing is an emotional sport and people (fighters included) were hyped up for a big fight. The punch that landed wasn't all that hard or flush and so of course Vitali sees Solis go down like he's been shot and Vitali thinks "This is bullshit, I want to fight, the fans didn't pay to see that"....who wouldn't think that, I mean Solis was supposed to be a tough contender not some pushover.
Early reports are torn meniscus and maybe ruptured cruciate ligaments...not very promising for Solis' future IMO.

the fans felt ripped off!?

Lyle, your such an a tart :D
Rant, yeah Solis was light but it seems that he only lost weight on his legs!
Maybe his promoter was right? Maybe his massively broad chest makes his weight somewhat deceptive :-)

I had the round 10-9 in favor of Solis...
I think he was clearly winning.

Hey I'm sorry but to call the Klitschko's "unprofessional" out of ALL the heavyweights out there is fucking ridiculous. It seems to me that Vitali and Wlad are the only ones that seem to take the sport seriously in that division. So what Vitali got upset when the doctors stopped his fight vs Lewis, Vitali figured (correctly by the way) that this was his 1 and only shot at Lennox and Vitali wanted to continue. Vitali got pissed at Solis because they are both paid to fight and at first Vitali didn't think Solis had hurt himself and so he was upset that Solis couldn't continue, how the hell is Vitali supposed to know what happened to Solis' knee?

When did I say Wvlad was unprofessional? You need to get their balls out your mouth for once. Vitali is a hot head and the only time he showed decorum was when Byrd stopped him. That would humble anyone ;)

Re: Vitali Klitschko 249.5 - Odlanier Solis 246.9
Here's a thought...... How about establishing a body fat percentage requirement on the heavyweights? Blubber-asses need not apply. Maybe THAT would help clean up the division a little bit.

That would be a good law to implement. BUT it would be seen as a form of discrimination and would be thrown out in no time unfortunately!

Well you've got to figure that sometime, someone is going to figure out in order to compete at the highest level you've got to be in the best shape possible and that boxing isn't a 9 to 5 job, it's a life style

That's correct. I dare anyone to come up with a sport where being grossly overweight is an acceptable part of the job. Let me shoot a couple down before they get mentioned:
a. Sumo wrestling - The whole premise is based on body weight and mass, where two guys are trying to push/shove/or otherwise maneuver each other outside of a circle. And might I add that most sumo wrestlers are in better physical condition than the blubber asses that pass as heavyweight boxers nowadays.
b. NFL football - This is a position-driven sport. Only the linesmen are fat. And they too need their huge body mass to open up running lanes for running backs or protect the quarterback. As with the sumo wrestlers, they are also in a lot better physical condition than the boxing blubber asses.
No one please mention bowling, billiards, or darts. These are not real sports.
No.... heavyweights stand alone in sports, with the thinking that if they get fat enough, and land a few haymakers here and there, they can become champions and earn some big money... without having to put in a hard day's work. That's why these bozos show up in embarrassing shape, and why they tear up knees without getting touched on the legs. It's enough to make the average sports fan puke.

Re: Vitali Klitschko 249.5 - Odlanier Solis 246.9
Political 'Correctness' aside. You make an excellent point.
The only problem I have is that if they did Implement Weight Watchers for Boxers, I'd have no chance of ever seeing my beloved Super-Cruiserweight Division!!
Just kidding :)

Re: Vitali Klitschko 249.5 - Odlanier Solis 246.9
I had Solis up at the time of the stoppage, but Vitali could easily won the round depending on what happened next. I must say that Adamek has a running shot at Vitali (no way Wlad) if he just keeps moving around him and peppering him with punches. Not saying he wins, but he's got a shot.

I scored the round 10-8 for Vitali...at the VERY worst it was a 9-9 round simply due to the knockdown and yes that was a legit knockdown

I think Solis knows WHAT he has to do to win against Vitali. Neutralize his pawing jab, move around, make him miss and counter with single fast shots. He started doing his job, but in that horrible shape you definitely won't be able to dance around for 12 rounds. That injury was coming sooner or later. Hope, this was a good lesson for him and next time he won't be overweight.
I agree Adamek vs Vitali would be a great heavyweight fight, much better than Haye vs Klitschko. Adamek's skills, his hit n move style combined with the speed and condition might be very problematic for the 39 year old.

Me too...
I had a clear 10-9 for Solis...
This reminds me of Green-Codrington I had Codrington wining up until the KO.
Same with Ruiz-Tua where I had Ruiz wining.

Adamek was clearly affected by Arreolas shots when they landed, imagine Vitalis. I think its gonna be rough for him to work in and out all night and not catch a big bomb.

Vitali was correctly given credit for a knockdown (the ref started his count) that's a knockdown so at worst for Vitali it's a 9-9 round at best it's a 10-8, but no way no how is it a 10-9 round for Solis....you people are nuts to believe that
