Re: Abraham - Ward Fight Thread
AA was looking pretty good, now he's looking like he did in the Froch fight. When he does throw the punches are wild and wide.
-
Re: Abraham - Ward Fight Thread
Abraham is landing some BIG shots on air
-
Re: Abraham - Ward Fight Thread
If Ward doesnt gas, he may be able to slow Abraham enough to get a stoppage. Abraham looks like he is sucking wind hard.
-
Re: Abraham - Ward Fight Thread
We might finally get that Abraham vs Pavlik fight we wanted a year or so ago
-
Re: Abraham - Ward Fight Thread
It would be interesting to see what might happen if AA could land a few power shots, his best punch so far has been his jab.

Even that looping right was causing pause...but Ward has had him on a leash for last number of rounds and painting him badly.
-
Re: Abraham - Ward Fight Thread
I have now switched sides, I'm hoping Ward knocks this guy the fuck out. Abraham misses so badly with his right hand...how he held on to the IBF middleweight title sop long is beyond me...
-
Re: Abraham - Ward Fight Thread
I picked Arthur to win this entire Tourney, man! Wards almost toying with him now
-
Re: Abraham - Ward Fight Thread
ward proving himself a true p4p star in this fight.
-
Re: Abraham - Ward Fight Thread
His corner needs to stop this fight. There is no reason for him to just stand there and take punches.

He is just so inconsistent. That jab vanished for several rounds and he just covered up. The man is a frustrating fighter to watch. The blueprint has been laid out and Ward is just following the method.

Yeah, really amateurish, it doesn't help that Ward is slick and hard to hit..
This fight has gone just about the way everyone thought it would.

Amat and I both picked Ward winning the final against Froch before a punch was thrown in the tourny. 8)
I should gamble..
-
Re: Abraham - Ward Fight Thread
I really dont understand why Ward would switch stance at this point...is he bored or what because he was dominating in orthodox stance.
-
Re: Abraham - Ward Fight Thread
AA is looking completely gassed. I don't think Ward has the power to KO him, but it might be stopped the way AA is looking.
-
Dang, all I wanted is for the Super 6 to be competitive and AA has just closed up shop....damn shame.
I guess we'll see Ward-Froch for the finale then unless Johnson pulls off the upset and then I guess its Ward-Kessler.

Abraham didn't face great competition at 160. He didn't beat one elite fighter. At 168 he is facing bigger guys that he can't walk through their shots and Froch, Ward, etc... are elite boxers with size and speed.

Re: Abraham - Ward Fight Thread
Yea Ward-Froch will be a helluva a fight, but so will Froch-Johnson. You can't ever count out Glen JOhnson.

Ha, you should dude. I picked Ward to get smoked :-X and Froch has impressed (me). Unfortunately, I think he mugs Johnson badly. Ward is just a smart guy, full of guile!

Ward really isn't much fun to watch either, I hope Froch has better luck with him and wins the SS tourney. (if he can get by the old fox, Glen Johnson)

Re: Abraham - Ward Fight Thread
Ugh, knew the fight was going to be boring most likely, but the first 4 rounds were a tease....AA completely went to shit after the 4th. He really needs to relearn how to box, or just retire. Anyone with any type of boxing skill just completely outclasses him.
-
Re: Abraham - Ward Fight Thread
If only fights were fifteen rounds, the final three would never be dull with AA. He always looks as though he can land that punch as his opponent tires. It's just a shame that he doesn't try to win any of the other rounds. I thought he won that final round.
Still, very good performance from Ward and it wasn't all that dirty. I wish commentators wouldn't compliment a fighter in his ability to hold though.
-
Re: Abraham - Ward Fight Thread
Ward looked a little bit better I don't blame him for the fight sucking, it was more of AA just being a turtle and having no offense.

yeah I think Ward is top 5 p4p right now right behind Martinez and Donaire. He just looks so awkward and hard to beat. He proved he can cope with adversity too.

Re: Abraham - Ward Fight Thread
Really disappointed in Abraham, hardly threw the jab after round 3. Credit to Ward though, good job for him
-
Re: Abraham - Ward Fight Thread
Boring fight.
Well done to Ward though, a level (or two) above Arthur.
Now I'm off to bed before he starts bible bashing in the post-fight interview. :-X

I predicted Mosley vs Berto because of their respective situations happening soon. Pavlik vs Abraham won't be far behind...

Lennon all day...pure class. Even the old Mic

I think that would be a better fight for Abraham because Pavlik is there to be hit. That should be a good fight. They both seem to be about B level at this point in my eyes.

Froch is going to beat him, Froch is the slightly bigger man and hits harder. I can see Froch pulling off the upset by fighting another very smart fight. He will keep Ward at range and land those awkward bombs when he can. Ward will try to rough him up and refuse to fight away from home, but Froch is better. He beat Abraham better too.
I think he might even stop Johnson too. People seem to be forgetting that Johnson looked aged in his last fights at LHW and is now older than the Queen.
-
Miles people also forget that Froch got dropped by Taylor....seriously hurt by him. Glenn Johnson is not someone to be looked past.

I don't see Froch stopping Johnson, unless it's on cuts or some such shit, Glen may be old, but he's still very durable.

I would have loved to have seen Mosley-Berto when it was originally scheduled, but I have zero interest in that fight now. As for Pavlik-AA, I don't believe there would be much interest in this fight, and Pavlik needs to fight someone with a title at 168, it's time to sink or swim.

He went night and day with Clinton Woods three times. Johnson is a solid fighter and a very crafty old vet, but stopping Green in a very close fight hasn't really told us anything more than he can beat a contender in the division. Froch is a step above that. I see it being fairly competitive early, but Froch will want to impress the faithful and he will likely end Johnson's career.

He's always been a very good pro and I like him a lot too. I just think Froch is generation younger, too unorthodox and a slight class above. Age will likely catch up with Johnson in this one. Just a hunch though.

Froch could and should beat Johnson but Roy Jones Jr should have too. Froch is vulnerable and Johnson is dangerous!

Re: Abraham - Ward Fight Thread
Just wanted to add to this thread that Ward is a nice enough guy, and he's a good boxer, but I don't see this dude ever being the next big thing in boxing. I can't recall seeing even one of Ward's fights when I came away thinking, wow, that was a great fight, or damn, was that entertaining.
I wonder how much Ward got paid for the AA fight, whatever it was, it was too much.
BTW, like someone already said, AA is done, put a fork in him, anyone who can box a bit will always beat him.
See you next weekend for Hop-Pascal. :)

And what makes someone the next big thing in boxing? Isn't it supposed to be about who you beat and a legacy? Or is it about how exciting your style is? Wards style gets it done against the best the division has had to offer thus far. Sometimes it isn't about "wow that was a great entertaining fight" sometimes its about "wow, I was not expecting that guy to be dominated as badly as he was." and these are the top fighters in the division and Ward has rarely lost a round to them. Regardless on the opinion of his style, his dominance is something that cannot be ignored and he's still only 27.
