Well.... my interview went better than I expected. It wasn't as structured as I thought it would be. I just went around and met a bunch of people and had little chit chats. More like speed dating than a grilling interview. A couple of them didn't even have my resume in front of them. I ran into my competition in the hallway a couple of time and he looked scared. He wore a dark blue striped suit and tie. I wore casual office wear. It's a blue collar construction office. One of the department head Engineers asked me if I had a degree, I told him my stuff was all on the job. He said "me too, I hate the suit and tie, just between us." :o,
I got the old we'll be contacting you soon line from the Final Department head. :-\
Thanks,
For the Luck! It is well received.
Ring... ring... ring.....
FJ: Hello this is John speaking.
MP: Hi, I'm the HR person, I understand you just had an very long interview with our Engineering Department?
FJ: Yea, I did!
MP: How did it go?
FJ: I kinda liked it!
MP: You liked it?
FJ: I did liked it! I got a chance to meet a variety of people that and got a feel of what the culture is like and I felt the job the way they explained is a good fit.
MP:We'll that's great to hear. The reason I'm calling is because our people felt you were a good fit for the job as well. So John, tell me, I understand you are working. Why do you want to leave the company where you are at now?
FJ: We'll officially my company is on a 4 day reduced hours work week and we all had to take 10% salary cuts on top of that. The company has down sized. Need I say more?
MP: No, no... So, What kind of Salary are you looking for?
FJ: We'll what I'm doing now is not exactly the same thing as before because I was wearing two hats and I'm making ~75. But I'd like to get what I was making before but I know the market rate is down so I'm hoping to get somewhere in between.
MP: John, as part of our application process I sent you email with a link and we'd like to fill up an application in the next day or two. I will put together an offer letter and get it over to you.
FJ: That's fantastic!
MP: excuse me a sec. I've got to answer another call. Ok, did I talk to you about benifets?
FJ: No not yet. Ok at Southland we offer 100% match on 401K you are fully vested... blah... blah... blah...
MP: So John, how much time do you need to give your employer notice?
FJ: Just the standard two weeks but I'd like to keep it clean and do it at months end so it's easy for them to keep all the billing straight. And my pay is not interrupted.
MP: Ok, so your looking at the 6th of September as your start date?
FJ: Yea, that sounds about right.
MP: Just wait for my offer letter.
FJ: Great looking forward to it.
MP: Just wait for my email.
FJ: Thanks, you made my day!
MP: That's wonderful By John.
FJ: Bye
YES! Nailed it!
Fukkin wicked how good s that ;D:cool::cool: :cool::cool: Congrats John.
Do not mess it up from here fan johnny.
fanjohnny that wasn't a very funny joke.
If I understand you, no. "It's a true story". I worked with a Scott in Saudi and about 30% of the stuff that came out of his mouth was unintelligible. He always started and ended his tales with "It's a true story".
Now, I'm going to try and land for me, a career defining job. A recruiter invented me to apply for a senior position at SLAC If you received a letter from a company recruiter, not those head hunters working for commissions, then you know you don't have to convince anyone with your resume because that part of the process is already done. They saw something in there where they want you to show up for the interview. The only thing is I feel like I'm stabbing the new company in the back. "It's a true story" really! "It's a true story" ;D
Next two steps, The resignation letter. The last couple of days, I've had a very had time keeping my mouth shut. Monday is the tell to all day and then it's off to the labs to piss in the cup.
Gawd, I tried asking a Science career forum for the education community some advise on salary bargaining and I was forbidden to talk about specific numbers. (Damn! I got to do more homework.)
Oh, sorry btw, I made it to the next step for my dream job, they are asking me technical questions to be sure I am qualified. After I get the essays back to them, they'll set up a phone interview. (I hope they get to it before I start the new job. Probably no chance that will happen)
Today I'm hating my job.
Made a shed load of money, but sold my soul along the way.
Isn't that what everyone has to do over the course of their working lives? I always used to think of myself as very principled and a very fair person. But 10 years of having to do things I don't like at work that kind of make me feel like I'm compromising myself a little each time made me feel just like that. Minus the shed load of money ;).
lol that is what is known as a humblebrag, guys.
here is a bunch more to read for fun. Some are teh great.
No, I really was hating my job yesterday. Dreading going back to it on Monday.
I wish my job was as glamourous as a boxing promoter!
lol it's all good man. everyone does it. when you throw in the making boatloads of money it becomes a humble brag. for eg...
Over the weekend I banged this girl. a couple of times. and then I banged her friend, and her sister. So wore out. I think I broke my weener doing so and probs need to go get a shot of some kinda antibiotic. Wow, I suck at life.
I'm still doing my same uni gig, but I have to say that a 10 week vacation is one of the hardest things I have ever had to deal with. The free time goes to your head and you you lose any semblance of control. It's now 1am in the morning and typing on Saddo's, well considering I went to bed at 7am, it has all become quite normal. It is total anarchy in the world of miles and I am not sure I like it. I want my 9am starts and 7:30 alarms. Some kind of normality. I don't really have that right now, but its all my fault. Should have got a grip from the off. Lessons to be learned for christmas.
I've got a new job now- thanks fook
That sounds like an awesome weekend!
I wish I could take an antibiotic shot at work and fix that! If only it was that easy. My job is seriously stressful. They say moving house is the most stressful thing you can ever do, but I help other people people do it for a living. And without my bit, the money, it doesn't happen, constant pressure cooker.
I often wish I had a normal 9-5 job, hour for lunch, paid holiday. I more often wish I earnt more money and did less work.
lol i wish that was really my weekend. my weekend kinda sucked actually and the forecast isn't improving.
Got to better than this blokes
