Hasim Rahman vows to KO Povetkin:
(from Boxing News & Results updated 24/7 | Fightnews)
Quote:
Former heavyweight champion Hasim Rahman (50-7-2, 41 KOs) is looking to defy the oddsmakers once again. More than 11 years since he shocked the world by knocking out Lennox Lewis, “The Rock,” about a month shy of his 40th birthday, will challenge current WBA champion Alexander Povetkin (24-0, 16 KOs) on Saturday at the Sporthalle in Hamburg, Germany. It will be the most significant boxing match of the upcoming week.
However, the fight against Povetkin will be Rahman’s first fight since June 2011 and his first fight against a world rated opponent since a 2008 TKO loss to Wladimir Klitschko, prompting many to question his readiness, as well as his WBA mandatory challenger status.
“They’ve been basically writing Hasim off since the start of the promotion,” said Rahman’s promoter Greg Cohen. “Hasim isn’t even on the posters for this event. They’ve been making jokes and having fun. But while they were doing that, Hasim has been getting himself into fantastic shape.”
Rahman is making no secret of his strategy against Povetkin, who is coming off a shaky performance in his last fight against Marco Huck. “I know what I have to do and that is to knock him out. I know that when I’m at my best, no one can take my power and I will knock him or anyone else out, period….no fight at this level is easy, but I know that I am 100 percent prepared and so I am supremely confident. The fight will not go the distance. I will KO Povetkin on September 29.”

So, Pulev versus Ustinov this weekend. I like Pulev in this one. Not that I'm super high on him, however.

Heavyweight contender Tomasz Adamek is likely to fight Odlanier Solis in the Dec. 22 main event of NBC Sports Network's Fight Night, should Solis win his Oct. 12 tune-up against Leif Larsen and come through with not cuts or injuries, sources tell The Ring.
The 2004 Olympic Gold Medalist from Cuba fought WBC titleholder Vitali Klitschko last March but was stopped in the first round after suffering tears to his ACL and external meniscus, as well as cartilage damaged to his right knee. Solis (18-1, 12 knockouts) has fought just once since then after rehab and surgery, a 12-round unanimous decision over Konstantin Airich in May of 2012.
Adamek (47-2, 29 KOs) is coming off a fifth round stoppage of Travis Walker earlier this month.

Adamek has big-time balls. Solis is one of the most dangerous heavyweights other than a Klitschko. If Adamek were to beat Solis, then he has wins over Arreola, Chambers, and Solis. No other heavyweight, including David Haye, can lay claim to better victories.

Wilfred Sauerland says Povetkin, if he defeats Rahman, will likely fight Wladimir Klitschko in early 2013.
He says it's important that Povetkin is impressive against Rahman on Saturday, because his performance will be compared to Wladimir Klitschko's 2008 TKO 7 against Rahman.

Sad sight as Danny Williams suffers an eighth stoppage loss
Phil D. Jay
World Boxing News: Sad sight as Danny Williams suffers an eighth stoppage loss
Quote:
Danny Williams suffered another beat-down in Germany tonight that will hopefully spell the end of the London-born journeyman’s 17-year stint in the ring.
At his most powerful in 2000, Williams astounded all by knocking out Mark Potter with one arm to claim the vacant British heavyweight belt, but that memory is now becoming ever-more distant with each unnecessary bout.
At 39, Williams last fought to his full potential when taking Matt Skelton’s undefeated record in 2006 and is increasingly becoming fodder for young European fighters to claim a name on their record.
After losing his British boxing license in 2010 and contemplating hanging up his gloves for a full six months, Williams came back with the blessing of the Latvian commission to relaunch himself comically as 'DPW.'
Since then, victories over cruiserweight Frank Roth, Laszlo Toth and a 47 year-old Alfred Cole have only masked Williams’ inability to compete at anywhere near the level needed as the Briton crashed to three bad stoppages losses from four.
Tonight’s opponent Romanian-born Christian Hammer, whilst being nowhere near world level, had Williams on the floor in the first round and the writing was once again on the wall for the one-time world title challenger.
Hammer, 25, was easily able to keep Williams at bay with his own shots and continually hurt his opponent throughout the fight until a combination of shots in the fourth prompted Paul Thomas to halt the action.
At no point in the fight did Williams look able to score the win and Hammer claimed the WBO European title along with the name that comes with a man who once knocked out Mike Tyson.
Let’s hope the ‘Brixton Bomber’ can now reach the right decision and bow out of the sport before someone takes the decision out of his hands.

Quote:
By BoxingBet.pl – Alexander Povetkin’s trainer Konstantin Tszyu is optimistic before a potential fight with Wladimir Klitschko. The Russian coach who last Saturday was standing in the Povetkin’s corner during the Hasim Rahman fight believes, that the WBA World titleholder can defeat the younger Ukrainian champion in similar way like he did on Rahman.
“I have ideas which I have to show to Alexander. I need to spend much more time watching Klitschko’s and Povetkin’s bouts. Frankly speaking, if I would not believe that Povetkin could beat Wladimir I wouldn’t be here and waste my time. I’m convinced that the Klitschko fight may have a similar ending to the Rahman fight.
Obviously it will take us more than two rounds, but it’s not a problem”, Tszyu said.

Re: Heavyweight Fight Schedule
If you take the KBROS out of the equation, there are quite a few good fights to make above 200 pounds. Think about it: Boystov, Pulev, Adamek, Povetkin, Mitchell, Arreola, Stiverne, Chambers, Price, Helenius, Jennings, Solis and Haye. Mix and match those guys and you have some intriguing fights.

So far this year, what have been the best and most evenly-matched (on paper) heavyweight fights? Adamek-Chambers, Povetkin-Huck, Pulev-Ustinov and Haye-Chisora come to mind. Help me out - any others? Solis-Adamek is a good one coming up.

Banks-Mitchell on paper, although Seth is the clear favorite in tha tone.
Boytsov's promoter says he'll fight a top contender on Dec 22 in Moscow, but I'll believe it when I see it.
Bryant Jennings is supposed to be fighting a decent TBA on NBC in December.
There are rumors of Tyson Fury taking on a WBO-ranked contender on Dec 1, but as far as I know, nothing is set yet.
