Jimmy Carter was a strong, principled leader. Far more so than any of the guys who followed him.

Gas, electric, water and telecoms aren't ever going to be "dying" services. They're essential services. And they used to cost buttons compared to what they cost now. Now you pay for the cost of the utility plus a whacking and ever-increasing wedge on top in profit.
Closing the pits and the shipyards/steelworks etc. was going to have to happen at some point. It was going to cause hell at some point too.But the way it was handled, and then to do absolutely nothing for the areas that were devastated wasjust unforgiveably bas from whichever angle you look at it, political, economic, humanitarian etc.
I wouldn't describe him as strong or principled but regardless still an abject failure.
He could have invaded Iran -- the GOP, most of the media and a lot of Democrats were screaming at him to do it -- after the revolution. It would have guaranteed him a second term but he chose not to as it would have been a long term disaster even worse than Iraq was.
He could have kept interest rates low and that would have given him a second term too. All previous prezzes who struggled with inflation, LBJ, Nixon and For dofr instance, had the Fed chair cut rates before elections to make sure they got re-elected even though this fucked the economy long term,. Carter actually appointed a Fed chair he knew would crank up interest rates to whatever needed to end inflation once and for all, and he went into the election campaign with rates heading for 20%.
No subsequent president ( or any of the guys preceeding him in the modern era) would have done either of those things. Either one would have cost Carter a second term, but the guy had the courage to do what was right for the country even though he knew he was committing political suicide.
Cool story but lets not derail the stirring debate over Thatcher.
Just read that Thatcher supporters have said they are happy that people have reacted negatively towards her because she saw it as evidence that she had won.
This shows you the mindset of the people we are dealing with. They have no moral concern/understanding about the pain, stress and hurt they caused families and communities. Her attitude towards people less off or different to her was that they were beneath her and that philosophy and impact is still felt today.
The more I think about it the more of a bitch she was.
Thing is there was such a short term view with closing any industry esp/when years later they realised we're held randsom to other countries importing coal/oil/gas to the UK.
There was nothing in place for the skilled labour market to move on to.
British rail for example for years had no proper investment. They sell it off, prices go up & continue to do so & services get cut. An integrated public transport service? Impossible when you've sold it off.
when an Aussie calls you racist ;D

yeah but yeah but yeah but yeah but
What they actually done, was tell us the mining industry was none profit making and all but a hand full
of our deep mines needed to be closed down. Lot were very profitable she had a deep hatred for
miners, lots of lies and of course revenge and of course the rest is history.
That woman privatized everything in sigh, are we better off for it are we bollocks, we have Billions of
tons under our feet, and we import 55 million tons ever year.
Just think of the jobs it would create, and of course start off our heavy industry again, I'm sure we
could open one of them old pits, and drop the bitch down because deep down she's alright.;D
I did hear there where gonna be some security issues around her funeral... as much of a cunt I think she was I still believe she should be laid to rest in peace.
I'm wondering if Australia is going through a heavy PC stage at the minute because they used to be a lot more relaxed...I thought it was pretty hard to get in there, I mean have you seen the Australian border patrol program on one of them crappy channels?
anyone with a slight sun tan trying to smuggle an apple into the place gets the rubber glove treatment :-X
The more i watch that show the less it makes me want to visit the place purely down to the self imposed numb fuck jobs worth's that work for customs over there. :-\
If she wants a private funeral then don't go parading her body through the streets costing us all fortune or let her family pay. My friends mum just died, basic funeral is costing her £5k, she doesn't have the money and is having to sell of all kinds of stuff to pay for it as well as asking for donations.
Not to get into a facetious debate with you, but I'm pretty sure that Missy's friend's mum didn't destroy communities, betray her roots or demand a state funeral. Thatcher chose to put herself in a very public position, and chose to make cuts that took away the livelihoods of millions of people, and took great satisfaction in doing so. She got her family a place among the elite at the expense of millions of other families, I'm sure a strong and heavy handed police presence will be insisted upon to make sure those noble children of hers like Sir Mark Thatcher (yes, that one involved in a revolution in Africa, that very same buffoon who got lost in the Paris-Dakar rally paid for by some of his family's cronies) can give her a good sendoff.
her memories are hers and mine are mine.
You make yourself a public figure then be prepared to take the shit (and money) that comes with it.
In actual fact I do feel like saying to a couple of people you were a gobshite about her while she was alive now you're crying? Fuck off
I think the fact that each of us is contributing to the funeral gives us the right to have an opinion and to demonstrate that peacefully. I'm not advocating the kind of silliness that leads to people getting hurt, but I suspect a heavy-handed police presence may trigger responses from demonstrators.
Maybe having her remains placed in a hidden grave might avoid the vandalism that is almost inevitable for someone who inspired such feelings of loathing.
I doubt Missy's Mum would have ever fucked up hundreds of thousands of people lives, remember
it called sewing and reaping, Thatcher showed no respect, to the working class person remember
if your a shit when your alive, your sure no saint when your dead.
I have heard many a good word wasted on a CUNT, it's a fact she's someone Mum yes but thank fuck
not mine.;)
Well, we can only look up to the leaders of our society for guidance of how to act properly after having a few drinks, which is inevitable for such a grand occasion.

Wasn't talking about Missy's mum mate i'm not that insensitive ;)
I don't think you will EVER hear me waste a good word on Thacher... just airing my view on the mindset of anyone willing to go out of their way to ruin someones funeral and it being condoned in a civilized society just baffles me if i'm totally honest ;)
Apparently Boris Johnson was thinking about putting a statue of her on the spare plinth at Trafalgar Square.
Can imagine how long she'd last there.
Thacher ruined many people lives, does she deserve respect no in her civilized way of lording it over us
the wounds are deep. theses Tory twats wanting to give her a 10 million pound send off is just
to MUCH. They stand there scoffing out bull shit, I hate what the Tory's stand for, a fuck you I'm
alright bunch. May the OLD TWAT BURN IN HELL.
The Tory's tell us they need to cut down on public spending, then they decide to lavish a 10 million
pound funeral on one of there own.! People die ever day in there beds etc, were does she pop her clogs, the Rits surrounded by her crones. Lording it over us in life, and doing the same in death, hell
how do theses shit bags rule us. I'm respectful of people that deserve it, others they are what they
are Thatcher is in with that bunch. Remember they say don't talk ill of the dead , in some cases that's
rubbish she was no saint.! Plant the bitch let that be THE END OF IT.
Thatcher was nasty and she didn't only break society at home, but she pushed her own people overseas. Me and most of the people I know left because we were all devoid of anything there. In my case it was 1.2% pay rises every year, the end of company pensions, not allowed to make a union. What was the other one? Working until 10pm and being allowed to 'bank' the time? Apalling really. Oh, vacation pay based around around contract hours and disregarding what you normally did. There is so much more I could say about William Hill who operate on every high street and that was a growing industry. That is the type of business that Thatcher loved. Cost cutting on every aspect of labour just so that you could say you are growing. A business based around ripping people off and the customer was never enough.
Apparently today a British high street is nothing more than fast food, bookies and pawnbrokers. Thank you, Thatcher.
Yes a lot of pawnbrokers, cash lenders and charity shops. Really getting depressing with the other shops closed.
I'll be happy when Carter, Obama, Biden, Pelosi, Feinstein, Waxman, Al Gore, Bill Clinton, Jesse Jackson, Al Sharpton, et al have died and those are just the actual politicians not the celebrities like Maher, Michael Moore, Oliver Stone, etc
I see the funeral has started.... I hope we aint gonna get this crap on the telly all day.
10 million cost of this tosh is a total piss take when they are constantly claiming how we need to tighten our belts because of the countries debt.
hopefully people are smart enough to do the protesting at the next election as I still feel today is not the time.
Hahaha! ;D
Personally, I think it would be a riot to see Thatcher's funeral get disrupted with a little civil disobedience. They are having a laugh spending millions on it and with the security too and so it deserves a little anarchistic mayhem to get full value for money.
I won't watch any of this though as the odds of any entertainment being picked up by the cameras live is zero. The British elite are being very cheeky by carrying out this non-cost cutting funeral so brazenly. It would serve them right to see it all turn to flames.
