Barker really surprised me today, thought he was sensational in a courageous performance. He would not be denied.

Barker was never the typical flash cockney, ever. Denis Waterman would have needed his own Minder before confronting Barker and even his brother ( a fine boxer) Pete (R.I.P) would have struggled to sort out Darren. I gave it to Geale. By one round. He one the last. Very close fight and lots of close rounds so no issues with the result. 116-111 Barker was poor.
I still don't think Barker is as good as Macklin or Murray. He showed me he has heart tho which I didn't think was there. What I know for fact is he has 0 chance against GGG.
Great to see a new British champ and hopefully he doesn't fight GGG and has a few domestic fights.

Yep - fair play. I agree with you, there are very few Australians who go over and beat the best in the States also. Britain actually has far more who go over and take on the best than Australia do. Greenbeanz - I thought I ate enough humble pie in the article! I was trying to poke a bit of fun at myself in that I'd judged this bloke based on absolutely no first-hand evidence, and he really surprised me with what he brought. More fool me. I really enjoyed the fight, it was a ripper, and I really enjoyed watching how thrilled Barker was when the cards were tallied.
Sturm would be a good fight. Be very close too. I think Barker needs to stay clear of the bigger punchers in the division.Quote:

Rematch Martinez. Martinez is not the fighter he was 2 years ago and Barker will have far more confidence to throw more and sit down on his punches a bit as he didn't do the first time. Judging on recent Martinez performances it's a winnable fight. Nothing in it for Martinez though.
