To be fair to Miles, Ward fights can be quite ugly. They usually have plenty of clinching and mauling. Same as Hopkins... maybe not quite as much. Tonight he definitely showed his superiority over Rodriguez. But it wasn't pretty, and not all of it was Rodriguez's fault. There was plenty of holding by Ward... most of it sneaky and out of sight of the ref. The holding down of the head.... the grappling. And then Ward has the nerve to complain about Rodriguez's tactics. C'mon man. Anyway, it was entertaining enough. At least Rodriguez kept trying to get back in the fight. He just didn't belong there.
Nice. I like those "I know you are but what am I" responses. The guy has incredible feet, incredible defense, uses his eyes like Floyd does and rarely if ever gets hit cleanly. He has incredible punch selection, a mule kick for a jab and rarely misses a punch. Other then that he's pretty regular.Quote:

I didn't think Ward was that dirty at all tonight:confused: His footwork and radar are tremendous. The other guy only came to spoil and try to make it a street fight, and he was tough as nails.

Ward has an incredible jab and as others have said he is on the money with the combos. Good tune up fight for him. Thank God for the ref or that could've been a stinker. He should do the next Wlad fight.

Currently watching Collins Benn one on BN. Amazed I'm still awake tonight.
He has skills and a sharp boxers brain, but he uses it very negatively. James Toney is an example of someone with all the skills, but you don't see him holding and constantly trying to cheat. Even at 45 James Toney just fights, that is what I enjoy. None of my favourite fighters employ the tactics that Ward employs.Quote:

Good performance by ward, but rodriguez didn't offer much other than the ability to take shot after shot. Id like to see the froch rematch as I think he's the only credible challenger , I know ward done beat him but who else is there without moving up in weight or ggg comin up...

When it comes down to boxing, I am an aesthete. I enjoy particular styles and none of them involve cheating to get what one wants. James Toney is a purists dream as a boxer, Ward is quite definitely far more flawed. For the same reason Hopkins can never consider himself aesthetically pleasing. An aesthete is pure and bases the artistry around the rules. It means using the 12 rounds to show skills, not spoil and cheat. It is after all a fight. In a different style, Calzaghe and Paquiao are also great examples of quality boxing which I also enjoy a great deal. Fighters don't hug each other, watch the Marquez/Pac fights and count the hugs. Great fighters don't do it to excess.
I'm not going to give credit to the likes of Ruiz, Wlad and Ward, when they are horrible to watch. James Toney at 45 is still a far more HONEST fighter once that bell goes than Andre Ward and that is why I speak positively of James Toney and not of Ward. I love boxing and watch all the fights and know what I like. If it is ugly, then I will be there saying it is. If I am not being consistent then point it out, but this bout was largely negative and against someone who had a chin and little more.
I just meant if I was as outwardly bitter as you, I probably wouldn't post here any more. It's obviously incredibly unhealthy, nobody respects your opinion as much as they would if you focused on things you aren't clueless about, I won't backtrack on that.
