Re: HBO/BOXNATION- PACQUIAO v RIOS -The Clash in Cotai-SATURDAY NIGHT CHAT THREAD
a 12 rounds one direction total mauling, Rios barely landed more than one interesting/meaningful punch per round.

Re: HBO/BOXNATION- PACQUIAO v RIOS -The Clash in Cotai-SATURDAY NIGHT CHAT THREAD
The shopworn near-35 year old fighter with 19 years as a pro completely outclassed the prime 27 year old elite fighter. The younger guy showed Heart, but he was humbled; hopefully he'll learn some respect regarding all his loud trashtalking about his opponent for the past 3 years or so. Rios is still a winner though: biggest payday of his career, and his name gets out there.

Rios has never had a game plan, he's just a really tough guy. I'm only surprised that he took so many flush shots tonight.

Rios picks a fight with Kellerman cause he couldn't pick one with Manny. Dude, Come on.

was really nervous watching him. back then i dont care if he gets hit i just wanted a brawl. but since the marquez great KO its different for me.
i kinda like the new pacquiao, well he is still the same but is now very cautious. the long break did him good and was able to be active all thru out.
i know rios is tailor made for pac and i knew he will lose to pac. i was still glued watching cause i want to see if pac became permanently damage but that jmm KO.

Kellerman should have just been honest with him. "Do you think I was a punching bag?" I think if you were a rock em sock em robot your head would have popped up by now.

Re: HBO/BOXNATION- PACQUIAO v RIOS -The Clash in Cotai-SATURDAY NIGHT CHAT THREAD
I guess people here talking on the demise of Manny may not have been accurate. Granted Rios isn't top tier but I didn't expect Manny to look as good as he did, I expected him to win I just didn't expect that domination.

Cant believe they gave Rios a few rds when tallied. Rios looked like both his feet were nailed to the floor. Like watching oil pour at -30

Re: HBO/BOXNATION- PACQUIAO v RIOS -The Clash in Cotai-SATURDAY NIGHT CHAT THREAD
Very pedestrian fight actually. Entertaining, but far from a classic.
Quite workmanlike for a Pacquiao fight actually.
Pacquiao is clearly not as fast as he once was, Rios is really slow.
Tough guy.
Excellent cardio on both of them. Machines.

Re: HBO/BOXNATION- PACQUIAO v RIOS -The Clash in Cotai-SATURDAY NIGHT CHAT THREAD
Apparently the Rios fight plan was to go, get beat up, then hope the check is good. Garcia stole $400K from Rios, he didn't do his job. What was the plan? He couldn't counter with his hands in front of his face and never once made an aggressive move to turn it into the type of fight he needed if he was going to win. Have they given up on Rios as a fighter, cashed it in, or is there no one in his camp boxing smart enough to make him competitive in that fight?
You fight Pac and you have to take away that move to the right- marquez is savvy enough to draw him in and counter and play it that way, to offset his speed, most aren't. Rios needed to make it a fight and to do that he needed to take away that escape route. But he never once made a strong move with his feet to keep Pac in front of him. When Pac goes to his left, he doesn't like to punch (though he will when he realizes that you are just going to put your hands in front of your face and let him), he goes that way then spins back out to his right.
You have to step up with your left foot and throw the left hook, block that escape route and keep him lined up for the right hand. Early on when Rios pushed him to the ropes and Pac grabbed, they just accepted that as ok; his corner should have told him to throw Pac on the floor and spit at him. Let him know that he has to fight you. his only chance was to make it a fight and Rios didn't come to fight.

Great fight. But the difference in class shows up AFTER the fight. Manny goes around and congratulates the entire Rios camp on a good show. Then he does a classy interview. Rios and his puffed up face claims he never felt Pac's power, and decides to pick a fight with Max instead.
Par for the course.

Re: HBO/BOXNATION- PACQUIAO v RIOS -The Clash in Cotai-SATURDAY NIGHT CHAT THREAD
you guys are a bunch of dicks!
lets see one of you take flush shots to the face for twelve rounds and feel jolly and good at the end.
max's question was condescending and rios called him out on it. max showed no respect and didn't have the balls to back his own words up.
i picked pac to win by ko so i'm impressed that rios went the distance taking all that punishment.

Re: HBO/BOXNATION- PACQUIAO v RIOS -The Clash in Cotai-SATURDAY NIGHT CHAT THREAD
We don't get paid what Rios got paid. Getting interviewed is part of the job description.
-
Re: HBO/BOXNATION- PACQUIAO v RIOS -The Clash in Cotai-SATURDAY NIGHT CHAT THREAD
Rios' big mistake was getting Ariza instead of Heredia... Without a guardian angel overseeing extra preparations, Bam Bam soon enough found out how inadequate he was and had to borrow Joshua Clottey's play book--digging deep unto a survival kit of to do's and dont's.

Re: HBO/BOXNATION- PACQUIAO v RIOS -The Clash in Cotai-SATURDAY NIGHT CHAT THREAD
Did anybody else notice that, while Pac has some pop in his punches, he never sets down and really turns on anything?

I had a clean sweep. Contgrats to Pac he clearly exposed Rios for what he is ... a tough mid level caliber knuckle head fighter with little skills / movement and a trainer that took a vacation in Macau. Impressive show but it "DOES NOT WARRANT" a Mayweather fight. It warrants a Prod, Bradley or Garcia match. Only a win over Garcia will earn Pac a match with Money despite a desperate HBO clamoring for the fight. Besides if it ever does take place it will be on Showtime.

I did. He never made a move to "close to show" with Rios, content to just land a few shots and move. And when I think about other Pacquiao fights, he has always been a more methodical finisher, letting fighters wither from the accumulation of punches whether than just throwing the kitchen sink at them after landing a good shot.

Rios is still a punk. A very very tough punk though.
I'd like to see Rios take the Randall Bailey right hand then smile and talk shit.

Tough enough to walk around getting slapped around, but too much of a punk to try and win the fight.

Re: HBO/BOXNATION- PACQUIAO v RIOS -The Clash in Cotai-SATURDAY NIGHT CHAT THREAD
Congrats to Pacman. I'm sure Rios vs Alvarado 3 or even Ruslan Provodnikov will happen next year and Pacman should still pursue Money May but I'm sure it won't happen.

Pacquiao did what he was supposed to do. He moved and hit and Rios ....got punched.

Re: HBO/BOXNATION- PACQUIAO v RIOS -The Clash in Cotai-SATURDAY NIGHT CHAT THREAD
I don't blame Rios for getting angry with Kelllerman, because the subtext of the question he asked was "tell us in your own words why you weren't just a punching bag out there, because it sure looked like it to anyone who was watching the fight". Rios was little more than a heavybag out there, but it is disrespectful to bring it up to a guy right after a fight.
Fight went just like I figured it would (minus a stoppage for Pacquaio). Rios could have had Angelo Dundee, Ray Arcel and Eddie Futch training him, it wouldn't have made a difference. He isn't equipt to deal with a Pacquaio. He was a carefully selected opponent for a gaurenteed impressive Pacquaio performance. A highly ranked guy who was tailor made for Pac. No big surprise.

Personally, I wish he had knocked Kellerman on his ass. If Rios was Puerto Rican, Kellerman would have been falling all over him.
I don't have anything against Puerto Ricans, but I don't like journalists or color men who think they can say anything they want and never get called out for it.
I was feeling good last night, RJJ was hammering Max all night and Rios stood him up at the end.
I'm a Manny fan, I wanted him to win, I'm glad he won and his post fight comments were what I expected.
I like Rios too, his fights with Alvarado were great, but he is Mexican from a Mexican gym so you are not going to hear any 'We are the World' stuff come out of his mouth. When Rios said, referring to Manny, "His speed bothered me a little." that was a HUGE admission for him.
It's who he is, coming from the culture he grew up in, and I respect it. You don't have to respect it but you should try to understand it, because it's not going to change any time soon.
By the way, I used to be a Kellerman fan, but he's turning into a younger version of Larry 'The Pompous Ass' Merchant.
Hey, I feel much better now! Hahaha

Kellerman doesn't bother me too much.... he's nothing like Jim Grey, a guy I can't stand, and one that I'm happy doesn't do too many fights. Now there's a guy who goes out of his way to antagonize fighters and be controversial. You gotta expect to get some pointed questions when you're being interviewed. I was the first to blast JuanMa Lopez for his ridiculously stupid comments about the ref having a betting problem after JuanMa had gotten TKO'ed by Salido.... so I'm not about to cut Rios any slack. Also, Rios "made up" for his admission of Pacquiao's speed by claiming that Pac had no power. Sorry, but his face begs to differ. I've never liked Rios. He comes from that punkish mentality I've come to abhor in boxing. He's tough and has a granite chin, so that gives him a free pass to be an a-hole. Wrong.

Re: HBO/BOXNATION- PACQUIAO v RIOS -The Clash in Cotai-SATURDAY NIGHT CHAT THREAD
My link cut out a couple times during the fight but I heard a couple exchanges where RJJ was heated at Kellerman. It seems they have disagreements in a majority of the fights they call. Is it turning into some genuine disdain?
-
Re: HBO/BOXNATION- PACQUIAO v RIOS -The Clash in Cotai-SATURDAY NIGHT CHAT THREAD
Yeah I agree, Kellerman is nowhere near as disrespectful and arrogant as Jim Grey.
There's a fine line between being the journalist with integrity who asks the tough questions, and being a disrespectful shit disturber.
I'm a fan of Kellerman, usually he is much better. But don't be disrespectful to a guy who went out there and gave it his all and got dominated. If Rios came out just looking to collect a payday, sure, fire away. He wanted to win the fight, he just got outclassed by an ELITE level boxer, who he never had much a chance against anyway.
Rios did what was expected, he came forward and fought until the end. Don't disrespect the guy and call him a punching bag.
-
I didn't think Max was out of line in the interview.
If anything I thought Rios was being a little asshole trying to bully Kellerman, who should have just ended the interview right there.
The problem with letting punks like Rios go the distance is that they will then turn around and immediately bad mouth you and say they were never hurt and all this nonsense.
Pacquaio should have finished the little motherfucker off when he had the chance.
-
Re: HBO/BOXNATION- PACQUIAO v RIOS -The Clash in Cotai-SATURDAY NIGHT CHAT THREAD
Rios is full of shit, in another thread someone posted the post-fight interview where Rios said he was afraid to really open up because he probably would have gotten knocked out.

Sad but true, it's likely we never see Manny vs Floyd. Boxing is a business, so there is always a chance the fight could happen, but don't hold your breath.
Manny has to keep winning--hopefully not a problem for a refocused Manny--and there is always Arum to deal with, so the chances are slim and none, in my opinion.

Re: HBO/BOXNATION- PACQUIAO v RIOS -The Clash in Cotai-SATURDAY NIGHT CHAT THREAD
Is there a reason why Rios was the fight of choice was it to build up Pacs confidence again. Anyhow would like to see a rematch with Bradley and or maybe Jmm again but he never looks good against him. I not sure there not many option for him and the Mayweather fight is now gone so who knows.

Rios comes straight foward, has no lateral movement, no speed, no one punch KO power, Makes no in fight adjustments, does not move his head. A lighter less power hitting Abril showcased this awhile back by beating Rios ass off by boxing him as did Alvarado . Ask yourself how Pac stacks up next to Abril & Alvarado roll over a couple of times from laughing so hard and ask yourself why am I asking such a stupid question?
Remaining cherry picking bouts with Rios like traits a Pac delicacy all to be fought in Macau:
* Ghost - light hitting
* Ortiz - no heart, long inactivity
* Josesito Lopes - Rios Clone
* Maidana - Rios with power, no defense
* Mathysse with power , no defense
Las Vegas Bouts these guys will not fight in Macau and concede that Pac is more important than them
*Bradley - was ripped off
*Garcia - The best fight out there
*Broner - The one fight I would root for Pac
In Pac's Dreams
* JMM - 10 years JMM played second fiddle to Pac ( I believe JMM lost the first fight / drew the second / won the 3rd and finished the story in the 4th) I would make my rival suffer the rest of his life for this (a lifetime nightmare sentence to endure) .
* Mayweather - Had the opportunity to fight Mayweather & bought the juice by beliving he was the bigger draw than Money then gets KTFO in devastating fashion .... Adios no more need for a fight .
