I didn't find it all that impressive tbh. I scored it for a buddy who never had access at his work.
1- Kov looking a little rusty. Agnew showed some nice speed. Agnew bagged him at the end of the round. Even round really.
2-Agnew got dropped at the end of the round. It was Kovs rd anyway but nice cap.
3-Kov starting to come on nicely but seems a little off to me. His rd. Agnew trying to fight back to his credit.
4-Kov got a bad gash from a butt. His round again but its a nasty cut. He got a little angry and fell apart a bit. Bit of a bad style match up.
5- Kov's round again but he's getting a little careless. They seem to have control over the cut.
6- Kov got another kd and may have another cut. Agnew complained about the kd and it was questionable but it was Kovs round again anyway. I think Kov may have looked past Agnew a bit and may have a had a little to much fun on this trip.
7-Kov gets the tko
I just got finished posting for round six and he stopped him lol. It was a good win but Kov did not look the same to me. Almost a little lethargic.
Given the opponent and situation, Kovalev really could only be seen in the negative? No? I thought he dominated the fight after a feel out 1st followed by Agnew climbing into a defensive cage and hoping he punched himself out. His jab was varied, when the guard was solid upstairs he opened to body. He smashed a overmatched but ballsy defensive minded foe.

Yeah I suppose that's true in a sense. He showed some kinks in that indestructible tag he seems to carry around though. Its hard not to dominate with a guy like that but I just found his performance a little flat.

I know what you're saying, Kovalev did what we expected but not in his usuall borderline spectular fashion.
It could be because Agnew has been training hard for a defensive fight.
We don't always need a Wilder walking through no names with defenses made of wet bread ;D He showed adjustment and adaptability to a strong defense..and got 1,2 rounds more then usual. I just can't see a thing to rake him on.
Re: Sergey Kovalev vs. Cedric Agnew
Damn. All I said is that he looked a little flat and seemed human. How that is being overly critical is puzzling to say the least.
Re: Sergey Kovalev vs. Cedric Agnew
I'm still a wait and see guy. I want to see more of him.

He was a little too frontal true but think it was more over eagerness. Agnew was showing signs of feeling it. He did settle though.
On the side, after the cut I couldn't help but hear this in his corner ;D

Re: Sergey Kovalev vs. Cedric Agnew
im not sold on the russian just yet, he kept his hands down too much. agnew was scared to death, and didnt throw anything to keep the russian off. the russian was wide open for a quick left hook, but agnew was too damn scared to throw!!! moron. its a shame, because if he had the guts to put together a few good punches by actually throwing some.... i think he coulda hurt kovalev.
Re: Sergey Kovalev vs. Cedric Agnew
Agnew gave it his best shot... he just couldn't do it. Good luck to him!!

Bahahahahaha..........flat lined. Another coffee exiting through the nostrils moment.
Re: Sergey Kovalev vs. Cedric Agnew
Anybody see Stevensons response?

"Slow with no defense! When Kovalev fights me, he will stay at the hospital and mama Duva will come see him. Kovalev, tell your mama Kathy Duva to stop crying and to call Yvon Michel and Al Haymon to make the fight happen! Krusher Kovalev, you are just a real slow bum with no defense. Easy work. In due time I will beat your sorry ass! You are an easy work and tell Tarzan to show how to move your big ugly head! You can't fight for sh*t,"
Re: Sergey Kovalev vs. Cedric Agnew
A few morning after thoughts:
- Kovalev has a few holes in a defense. His comment that agnew was a smart fighter; that he hid behind his defense and then tried to throw punches at the right time had me a little puzzled. It don't think its necessarily smart... Just boxing... and he should be prepared for a lot of guys that lay in wait and explode from a shell with combos (because of Kovalevs Linear retreat).
-Agnew wasn't horrible in the first round. He hit Kovalev with a 3 punch combo where every shot landed on the button. I'll admit that inched me closer to the edge of my seat. Kovalev going straight back a lot means an opponent can put in some work this way. I also think someone that uses a lot of angles and spins him can make him hesitate.
-That being said umm...Kovalev didnt really seemed phased and that was scary for a guy like Agnew. Everything agnew landed just seemed to be a deposit in the Karma bank and its like he knew he would get it back. After Kovi took that combo, and knew what the danger was.. he went right back to his attack. After he got butted and opened up, he went right back to the attack. ... after a low blow, he went right back to the attack...pretty much anything that happened was just an interval before he went right back to the attack. He was a machine. Whoever beats this guy (cleanly) is going to need serious power or blinding speed and accuracy. A Ward "hug & slug" performance could probably stifle Kovalev, but i'd pay to watch kovalev toss Ward to the mat, if he tried that grapple..
-The post fight interview was great. A fighter than says what he means and means what his says. The POS comment about Stevenson was funny. Even funnier was him realizing he was on TV right after it came out. Him Saying he'd like to fight anyone with a title in his division showed he wasn't choosey after the Stevenson pull out. I do think he'll need to push harder and name a name to corner someone into fighting him.

For someone who claimed to not be afraid of anyone, Agnew sure fought scared last night.

Agnew has been the same since the amateurs.. nothing has changed ..
He's always been a timid boxer type with no punching power..

Roy Jones Jr sure seemed to be impressed with Agnews punching power. In the early rounds he had to throw in several comments on how powerful Agnew was and Kovalev wasn't used to that. RJJ is irritating to listen to in my opinion. He sounds abnormally nasally too.
Re: Sergey Kovalev vs. Cedric Agnew
i thought agnew had decent power when he threw punches, unfortunately he had NO HEART!!!! and no, he didnt do his best....he gave up.
