6-5 Khan for me, Algieri letting him get away now.
I think Chris got the 11th. I'm not scoring but I got this pretty damn close. Outside of the rights he's receiving Khan has landed more and cleaner.
7-4 Khan..Algieri is stealing the show though. Khan is being walked down and stunned by Chris Algieri...just say that a few times out loud ???
I got it 116-112 Khan, Algieri really redeemed himself after the Pacquiao performance.
I thought Algieri won the 12th with harder shots. That means I scored the fight a draw at 114-114. They'll give it to Khan though.
113-115 Khan. Doogie Howser M.D made this fight.
Well, I am scoring that a draw because I can. I saw similar levels of performance over the 12. Better punches from Algieri, Khan a little more active. That makes Manny Pac look a little bit better. Khan should probably rematch Garcia and Maidana before getting his pay day. He doesn't deserve it after that, though ironically it will probably give him the fight.
Yes, Khans performance ccould tempt Myweather
Bad scorecards, but you kind of expect it. The audience should deal with the judges. What language is Amir speaking?
Oh I jest! Still, a pretty good fight. Tough on Algieri though. :-\
I do not think Khan gets through repeated right hand shots of Mayweather. The frequency of Algieri's right and effect was surprising..and he needed nothing at all to set it up.
Khan is getting knocked out by a Mayweather right hand if they fight. If Algieri has any power he would have finished him tonight with one of those overhand rights.
Mayweather is not fighting Khan. Nothing has changed. Floyd could not walk down a gopher. What Chris did has absolutely nothing to do with a Floyd fight. It should not surprise people that Khan had issues with the swarming. A Floyd fight will look nothing like this and Floyd knows this. Styles make fights
Khan gets wobbled when he stubs his toe, is open to rights and Mayweather is ten times the thinker and sharper hitter than Algieri. He'd chicken wing shoulder bully block and counter before he even reset. Khan is a very uncertain guy at times. And Floyds a cunt. I know ;D
With regards to Mayweather, I'd say Its more what Amir brought to the table this time as opposed to type of fight we saw.
Floyd walked down Cotto and Mosley.
I'll admit he's a bit more defensive oriented under Sr than Roger, but if Algieri (not a swarmer himself) could win 4 rounds going forward, Floyd would win 8 easily. Not to mention that Floyd has much more pop than Algieri.
I can't agree with you, it was a disaster for Khan. If Khan had won big (a KO or a truly dominate performance), I think public opinion might have swayed Floyd. This way Floyd has the high ground when he asks why should I fight Khan, he didn't do as well against Algieri as the guy I just beat.
I can't say the fight helped Algieri (is 2 losses in a row ever good?), but it didn't hurt him that much, in my opinion.
Almost forgot I wanted to say I really enjoyed this fight!
I agree. It wasn't a very good showing from Khan, but on the flipside I think Algieri is underrated too. Khan showed that he is a league below the Manny/Floyd level. He doesn't deserve a big fight on the back of these close fights against people he is big favorite to beat. But then again Maidaina got two fights with Mayweather so it is topsy turvy land. Expect Mayweather/Khan next. :D
I might be in the minority here but I thought this was a VERY close fight, I thought Khan was getting too much credit for fast pitty pat shots that were being blocked, and Algieri was going good work to the body and landing most of the clean "head snapping" shots. I wasn't scoring closely but I counted at least 4 or 5 rounds where I thought Algieri won.
I give all credit to Algieri for proving me wrong. I thought this was a mismatch and Khan was going to wipe the floor with him, but Chris came out aggressive and fought a real man's fight. He was aggressive, constantly moving forward and always trying to attack.
This was supposed to be Khan's big moment where he obliterated a hand-picked, tailor-made patsy so people would talk more about the Mayweather fight. Personally I think Algieri spoiled it for him. Even if Khan wins on points, he did not look like a Mayweather conquerer out there.
If anything I think Khan looked bad. He didn't throw the volume you expect of him and yet still he was getting tagged again and again. I don't see where there have been any improvements. It's simply moving more, headlocking more, and trying to edge rounds. Far from the showcase he promised and I think Algieri did enough to merit a draw. He landed only 20 less punches, but who landed the more effective blows and made it more his fight? Algieri did.
I think Khan had a lot of momentum after the Alexander performance but I think he has lost some now. It was an ok performance. I think he doesn't land cleanly enough considering how fast his hands are. I watch that and struggle to see how he gives Mayweather any major problems.
Forget about whether this performance affects his chances of a Mayweather fight, this performance jeapordises a Pacquiao fight! Algieri is a decent fighter with a good attitude , but let's not forget Manny the midget had him on the floor 6 times and WON EVERY ROUND! Provodnikov dropped him twice at the weight below.
Khan has lovely footwork, but he doesn't have enough power at this weight to keep the top fighters honest. Also , if he gets hit that often by Algieri, better fighters will be all over him and his chin will be an issue for the rest of his career . These aren't exactly credentials that make him worthy of Floyd's last fight.
Finally, if Floyd "runs" , what the fuck does Khan do?
To be fair nobody could have predicted Algieri would adopt those tactics - credit for the trainer switch to Jackson. I was still surprised going into the 4th round so fuck knows what Khan was thinking. Khan being shorter with an inferior reach and blurring speed advantage was a factor too. Thought he won but close fight.
Don't care whether he fights Floyd or not - but that chin is never getting through 12 rounds against Brook or Thurman. He would never be able to keep Porter off either.
Enjoyed that scrap last night and wasn't expecting that from Algieri. Algieri is an underrated fighter and I think he can hold his own against the top guys a WW but Khan on the other hand was lucky that he wasn't in there with a half decent puncher or else it was night night. I thought Khan squeaked out the win though. Not as wide as the 117 111 scorecard.
Khan did admit that they were surprised by the Algieri fight plan (...should they have been?), and it took them a few rounds to get back on track. Apparently they don't do a lot of 'what iffing' in a Hunter camp. Look, everyone talks like they're a genius in hindsight (yeah I'm talking about me too), but shouldn't you have a backup plan? What if he does this or what if he does that?
Khan's surprise made for a very entertaining fight.
Floyd has absolutely nothing to worry about after last night's performance.

Well, if Floyd wants to put on a showcase of his boxing skills for his last fight he could not pick a better opponent than Amir Khan. It would be shut out.
Oh dear Khan.
I literally didnt know this fight happened until the Kell Brook fight when the commentry guys mentioned it, and I watch almost everything thats on in boxing.
Career over for Khan.
The funny thing is, while Khan is holding out for Mayweather, I'm sure there's a long long line of guys salivating at the thought of getting in the ring with Khan.
Also just wanted to add that I "uh-oh'ed" as soon as the commentator mentioned that jackson was in Algeri's corner.
Based on what someone mentioned on this forum (I think it was VD) that he coaches for the knockout.
In all honesty, if I'd have known he was coach I would have thought they'd be up to some thing like the pressure they brought.
From now on, expect opponent to fight like that.
