What you , Fenster and Al have said is 100% right, but you can't expect a numb nuts like Ross , or an anti profit making, bandwagon jumper like Master to comprehend this.
If it were fat Mick talking about Tyson, they'd be pronouncing this as the rebirth of Christ ffs!
The big huge massive difference is Mick would be talking about the best heavyweight by miles on the planet and not a couple of novices that hes charging you top whack for;D;D;D
Hahaha!
You lot are deluded.....
You started this by questioning Hearn as to why he should talk about the sell out at the press conference.
Your statement above is absolute proof that Hearn is doing an amazing job! Selling a fight between 2 journeymen or "good amateurs"
As big as he has is promotional genius is it not? 👏👏👏👏
So, @ross, didn't fancy replying to this one then? 😂😂😂😂:rolleyes:

Re: Anthony Joshua to fight Charles Martin for IBF title
AJ, as a mere novice, has the "world" champion, who is promoted by Al Haymon, the most powerful man in boxing, coming to London to defend his title. The fight is live on Showtime in the States.
Imagine what he could achieve with a personality?
It's a surprise Eddie hasn't had him rolling out some backward ignorant bilbe verses.

Re: Anthony Joshua to fight Charles Martin for IBF title
It is interesting to see if Martin is a Bowe another guy who got his title from the dustbin .or he is a paper tiger.
If Joshua wins he will have to be ready for every challenge , he will be on the radar of every top hw fighter.

Re: Anthony Joshua to fight Charles Martin for IBF title
what is the general opinion of the outcome of this fight ?
I am not sure as both are untested really.

Re: Anthony Joshua to fight Charles Martin for IBF title
Seeing as youv gone to the effort of replying to yourself 3 times.....;D
You are Hearns audience.
Naive.
I am not.
The fight is between 2 novices who would both be considered not ready for Tyson Fury and Wladimir Klitschko and the only way either of them ever had a chance of winning a world title was for a title to be stripped. Like I said, if you want to join in getting excited over that, ok. It doesnt make the heavyweight division any clearer, especially to those who will swallow this;D

its a pitty mate because what Tyson Fury has done in his last fight is outstanding, much bigger and better than anything either martin or josh has done by miles
im particularly pleased about it, as I am a firm believer that it is the klits that have ruined HW boxing over the last 10 years and not the opposition (or lack of it)
but it seems that Josh is a bigger draw than fury, as is haye, people want to see these two fight more than they want to see fury
and to be honest, having said all that, im looking forward to josh v martin much more than klit fury 2
and if haye gets a decent opponent then probably that fight too
-
Re: Anthony Joshua to fight Charles Martin for IBF title
Haye-AJ for the "world" title is the biggest/richest fight in boxing... unless Floyd comes back to get decapitated by Golovkin.
-
Re: Anthony Joshua to fight Charles Martin for IBF title
Again you are talking world but mean Britain.
Id say Fury v Wilder would sell more world wide than Joshua v Haye.
-
Re: Anthony Joshua to fight Charles Martin for IBF title
No I mean worldwide, I know what I mean.
Wilder is not a bigger draw in the States than what Haye/AJ are in the UK. He's not a PPV fighter or as big a ticket seller. Wilder's last fight - which was on free TV - averaged under 500,000 viewers (your hero jumping in the ring got more attention than any interest in Wilder).
AJ-Haye would pack out Wembley, Fury-Wilder can't compete with that.
-
Re: Anthony Joshua to fight Charles Martin for IBF title
In your modest opinion.....

Oh, you are such a plum Ross. I replied 3 times to myself to highlight the fact that you didn't have an answer. as for this "following Hearns Naïve" nonsense, all I was doing was answering your ridiculous rant about Hearn at the press conference . I didn't say I agreed with it, I didn't say Joshua is the next coming of Christ, I didn't say Joshua will spark Martin out early, I didn't even say I will be buying it PPV!!!!!!
But what I , and most other people who can be bothered to respond to you said was that Joshua is the cash cow of the division (potentially with Haye not far behind.)
This doesn't mean he's better than Fury or Wilder, it doesn't mean he would beat them, but what it does mean is that he is marketed better and has the potential to earn 5, maybe 10 times more than them . Obviously to do that , he needs to keep winning .
You are right , a lot of people will pay way too much money to watch certain fighters and Joshua earning £3Million for a British title fight is crazy. But it is a FACT, and you just have to get fucking used to it.
btw, if you think Fury/Wilder generates more revenue than a potential AJ/Haye matchup assuming AJ was World Champ, you are dreaming (wet dreams about Fury probably!) ;D;D

Re: Anthony Joshua to fight Charles Martin for IBF title
You need to learn to condense :p
-
Re: Anthony Joshua to fight Charles Martin for IBF title
I find it amusing and roll my eyes that this is now some kind of dick measuring contest based on ticket sales as opposed to actuall skill level which even you Primo have just admitted that Johua would probably lose to Fury.
Lets also not forget that Wlad Klitschko just had his biggest audience against and payday against Tyson. So either Klitschko or Fury are the cash cows at the moment. Lets see what their rematch does in ticket sales, if the fight actually happens. Looking like it could be a stadium in the UK at the moment.
Joshua is fine being hyped and people jumping on what they hope is going to be a successful career. Wait till he fights actual world class fighters. One loss and that fan base will jump the sinking ship. Is Martin genuine world class? Is he fuck. Joshua is getting hyped as a destroyer but the second he cant destroy someone that interest dies down.

When did I admit that? (is that condensed enough for you?) :p

Yes thats £900 for a telephone operator to take your credit card details and secure your tickets which is no different to what I do daily with my account holders in work and takes no more than 2 minutes.
It's a hell of a magic trick to turn a 20 000 seater into a 60 000 seater. You've got to give the Hearns respect from a business point of view.

Its just totally irrelevant information to you. As is Hearn telling people how many tickets hes sold. You want to know about the fighters not the logistics of putting a show together at a press conference to get people interested in watching:rolleyes:
The fight is sold out so Hearn is now selling the PPV. Letting the British public know it sold out in 90 seconds helps persuade people that it's an event worth forking twenty quid out to watch on their tellies. So Hearn is doing both the obvious and the right thing in this instance.

Difference being Tyson is fighting men at their best and natural weight and is the best in the division;)

You have to narrow it down more than that!

Re: Anthony Joshua to fight Charles Martin for IBF title
I don't follow the numbers very closely, obviously this fight will sell big and that's why it happened, they were willing to pay Martin a lot more than he is worth for the fact. Deontay Wilder isn't really a big draw compared to anyone I feel like? He'll make people money fighting in smaller venues in his home state, and being with Al Haymon probably get rewarded very well for it. A fight between him and Martin for instance wouldn't sell shit on it's own, when on paper it is what people were saying the division lacked for so long. Two undefeated Americans who look the part and have big power, in a unification fight, but who cares? It's not just because they are both paper champs either.

Maybe it is because neither fighter has set the boxing world alight with their performances.

Enough of the constant bitching on here.!!
It's embarrassing to the site ffs.
Back on track.........
Great to see Conor Benn (Nigels son) finally turn pro and be added to this and Hearn has him onboard to add to his already amazing stable of fighters.
He's in great hands trainer wise too with Tony and Peter Sims and from the footage I've seen on youtube is a vicious hard hitting brawler just like his daddy :-)
One to watch develop for the future for sure.

I've hear a rumour that Wlad will return as he is in his prime at 39. So could be some interesting matchups for him .

Re: Anthony Joshua to fight Charles Martin for IBF title
McGuigan thinks it's a "hell of a gamble"
“It’s a hell of a gamble with 15 fights under his belt,” McGuigan told The Sunday Telegraph yesterday. “I expected Joshua to get Dillian Whyte out of there in the first or second round in December last year but he made a real meal of that fight.
“It exposed a level of vulnerability and defensive flaws that need to be ironed out. I understand where they’re going with this. They’re taking a calculated risk. Martin himself is relatively underdeveloped as a fighter.
“But he can wallop, he’s a southpaw and the defensive flaws I saw against Whyte give him a chance....
Barry McGuigan: Anthony Joshua taking 'hell of a gamble' against IBF heavyweight champion Charles Martin - Telegraph
He can say he would give Joshua another year but that's at least three fights, and even at the level he has faced so far, It's still heavyweight boxing, and three chances to get knocked out. It's an opportunity that Hearn would have been daft to have not pursued.
-
Re: Anthony Joshua to fight Charles Martin for IBF title
I think Hearn could have turned this down and allowed AJ to develop and at least go the distance with a fighter. AJ could get Haye, Fury and anyone else any time he wants because he has a huge fan base. They turned those fights down because he is not ready. AJ most likely will win but then will have to develop experience by making defences of the paper title.
It is all unnecessary risk.

Re: Anthony Joshua to fight Charles Martin for IBF title
These jealous hypocrites want AJ to fail so they can have a pop at Matchroom. Pathetic.
If AJ wins Martin was an untested nobody, if he loses we told you so. Zzzzzzzz

McGuigan seems a bitter little man. He makes snipey comments and pit on the stupid laugh at the press conferences for the Quigg Framptn fight. He also made comments regarding Tyson Fury leading up to the Klitschko fight and had to begrudgingly give him props after. Must have been like seallowing broken glass, mch like it has been for some in here.
Id imagine hed be like a little boiling kettle now his sons got Haye if ever a Fury v Haye foght was announced again.

Yeah , McGuigan's a cunt, he's only spouting this shit off about Joshua cos his boy is training Haye.
Trust me, one day, McGuigan and Frampton are gonna part ways and it is going to be ugly!
